The Regressed Archduke of the West

Chapter 108: Soul Dreamer

  • Next Chapter

Deep within the heart of the neighboring volcanic cavern, a subtle shift in the ambient Abyssal mana stirred Soul Dreamer from her quiet vigilance.

She had been resting peacefully over her clutch of eggs, her massive form coiled in a protective circle around the precious new life nestled within the volcanic ash.

But the sudden, thunderous roars of celebration echoing from Chaosbringer’s ledge—followed by the distinct, joyful tremors of a soaring dragon—puffed curiosity into her gentle, intelligent mind.

Slowly, gracefully, the 4th-Tier dragon began to shift her massive purple-scaled body.

Her scales, shimmering with a deep, iridescent violet hue that reflected the subterranean magma like polished amethyst, rustled against the basalt floor.

She carefully inspected her clutch one last time, ensuring each smooth, heat-radiating egg sat securely in the warmest hollow at the cave’s deepest sanctuary.

Satisfied, she slithered toward the cavern’s wide mouth, quietly poking her massive, elegant head out into the blinding, sulfurous daylight.

Her slitted, glowing lilac eyes blinked against the sun—and then locked directly onto the familiar, black-coated figure standing beside Chaosbringer.

The moment she recognized her master, the quiet dignity of the maternal dragon vanished into pure, unadulterated delight.

Soul Dreamer let out a soft, high-pitched warble that instantly deepened into a low, melodic roar of excitement.

She surged out of the cavernous entrance, her heavy talons clicking rapidly against the stone as she practically glided toward them.

Spreading her colossal, violet-tinted wings, Soul Dreamer’s shadow completely engulfed Craig, blotting out the harsh sun.

Yet, despite her staggering size and raw, terrifying power, her movements were imbued with extraordinary, delicate care.

She folded her wings inward just enough to shroud him in comforting shade, carefully positioning her massive weight so as not to clip or crush her human companion.

While Chaosbringer remained standing proudly at Craig’s right side, his tail still thumping rhythmically against the rocks, Soul Dreamer approached her master directly from the front.

She gently lowered her long, elegant neck until her snout was level with his chest.

She let out a soft, huffing snort that carried the sweet, ozone-rich scent of pure dream mana, warm and soothing against his skin.

Craig couldn’t help the quiet chuckle that bubbled up from his chest.

He reached forward with both hands, gently pressing his bare palms against her cool, violet-scaled cheeks, feeling the comforting warmth radiating from her hide.

"Xaris’aeth, Soul Dreamer? Kael’aeth is drakon matera?"

(How have you been, Soul Dreamer? Have you been a good dragon mama?)

The moment those ancient, resonant words left his lips, Soul Dreamer’s tail began to wag with wild, uninhibited excitement.

She flapped her massive wings in rapid, happy bursts, kicking up swirling clouds of fine volcanic sand and dry ash that danced around them in a sparkling, violet-and-crimson haze.

The intense air pressure sent Craig’s black coat billowing violently around his legs, but he didn’t care.

He simply leaned into her, resting his forehead lightly against her snout, letting the profound warmth of their shared bond wash over his weary mind.

Suddenly, a loud, familiar screech echoed through the high canyon walls.

Dark Sister, who had been resting at the lower dragon perches, had sensed her master’s lingering presence in the Temple of Dragons.

The 4th-Tier Child of the Abyss swooped down from the upper cloud layer, her dark green and pitch-black scales catching the sun as she tucked her wings and banked sharply toward the plateau.

THUUUUMM!

Dark Sister made a heavy, earth-shattering landing directly behind Craig.

The ground buckled slightly beneath her talons, sending a fresh tremor through the rocky ledge.

In times past, two wild top-tier dragons might have bared their fangs at such a sudden territorial intrusion, but Chaosbringer and Soul Dreamer remained completely serene.

They recognized their dark sister; they knew the same soul bond bound them all to the man at the center.

Dark Sister folded her spiky wings and lowered her head, letting out a low, excited rumble that harmonized with Soul Dreamer’s purring.

There, standing amidst the swirling ash and sulfur clouds of the volcanic peak, Craig stood at the absolute center of the world, surrounded on all sides by three top-tier apex predators—beasts capable of leveling cities, yet now acting like affectionate companions in his presence.

After spending a long, peaceful moment stroking Dark Sister’s dark crest and comforting Soul Dreamer, Craig slowly turned his gaze toward the dark, warm mouth of Soul Dreamer’s cave.

He stepped backward, looking into the glowing lilac eyes of his 5th-Tier dragon.

"Aethel-Ryn drakon vala. Vael’is drakonya infantis kael-tor."

(You have a beautiful new dragon home waiting for you, my friend. And your dragon babies will be coming with us to share it.)

Soul Dreamer blinked her large, intelligent eyes softly.

She did not panic, nor did her maternal instincts flare in defense.

The bond they shared transcended words; she felt the absolute sincerity, protective warmth, and unyielding strength in his heart.

She trusted him completely with her bloodline.

Without another word, Craig turned and walked steadily into the deep darkness of the cavern.

The three massive dragons fell into line behind him, moving with surprising, silent reverence.

Chaosbringer, Soul Dreamer, and Dark Sister ducked their massive heads and glided into the fissure one after the other, their immense bodies filling the dark space without a single conflict over territory.

The interior of the cave was staggering in its depth and scale.

Carved by centuries of natural geothermal pressure, the subterranean cavern opened up into a monumental, dome-shaped sanctuary.

It was easily spacious enough to house three fully grown dragons simultaneously, with soaring stone arches and wide magma pools keeping the ambient temperature comfortably scorching.

Craig halted his steps at the absolute center of the deep chamber, stopping just a few feet shy of a hollowed-out nest crafted from glowing volcanic ash and smooth river stones.

There, resting peacefully in the warm glow of the subterranean heat, lay Soul Dreamer’s clutch.

Four large, pristine dragon eggs rested together, their shells shimmering with an ethereal, translucent violet light that pulsed in soft, rhythmic waves—like the slow, delicate heartbeat of unborn legends.

Craig slowly knelt down on one knee before the nest, the heat of the ash rising through his trousers.

He gently reached out a hand, hovering his fingers just an inch above the shimmering violet shell of the nearest egg, feeling the faint, gentle flutter of life stirring within.

Soul Dreamer quietly lowered her massive head beside him, resting her snout right next to his shoulder, watching her master watch her children.

Craig looked up at her, his golden-crimson eyes soft, filled with quiet determination.

"Kael’ith naral, Soul Dreamer. Moran drakonya ifretis gionuris."

(They will be safe with me, Soul Dreamer. I promise you, I will protect your dragon eggs even if it’s the last thing I do.)
