Chapter 577: Chapter 354: Zog, King of Small Moves (2)
What a fulfilling day.
But the day’s work wasn’t over. Zog had contacted her, telling her to hurry over to Twin Tower City to see something absolutely incredible.
However, Furin wasn’t particularly looking forward to it.
Knowing Zog, whenever he said he had something "absolutely incredible," he would usually just pull out some gaudy, childish toy.
Still, Furin went to Twin Tower City right away. What else could she do? He was *her* Red Dragon, after all.
Soon, she was in the tunnels beneath Twin Tower City.
Furin saw Zog, a group of goblin Engineers, and... and what in the world was that?
With Furin’s vast knowledge, she could roughly guess that the thing was supposed to be some kind of Dragon.
But she couldn’t be sure.
Because she had never seen a Dragon that looked like that.
It had bright yellow skin, short and stubby limbs, and a huge, round head that was half the size of its body. Its pair of small eyes looked like magnified Human pupils.
All these features combined to give it an air of... not being particularly intelligent.
’Wait, this thing isn’t a living creature.’
Its appearance was so outlandish that Furin hadn’t realized at first glance that it was a Spirit Body.
She suddenly recalled Zog’s plan to upgrade the Divine Remains’ Spirit Body.
’Don’t tell me this is the upgraded Egg Spirit Body?’
’No, she didn’t consider this an upgrade. If anything, it looked worse than the egg.’
"Behold!" Zog said, proudly showing off the goofy-looking Dragon. "What do you think of my custom Spirit Body design?"
"Uh... it’s, uh, kind of cute... I guess?" Furin forced out.
"That’s not very sincere. Just wait until I make a cartoon with this character. You’ll see how popular it can be," Zog said.
"Are you sure this design will be popular with audiences?"
"They don’t have to like it for it to become a trend," Zog said mysteriously.
Furin didn’t quite understand the principle behind it—how an unlikable design could become popular.
"Did you call me all the way here just to see this thing?"
"Of course not. Now that the Spirit Body is upgraded, all that magical knowledge we couldn’t see before is now accessible."
Zog didn’t mention the part about a real Deity hatching inside the Divine Remains.
"Really?!" At the mention of this, Furin was wide awake. "Quick, let me see!"
When it came to any and all magical knowledge, Furin had an eternally voracious curiosity.
"Whoa, hold on. Before we start studying all the magical knowledge, we need to implement the method for entering the Soul Ascenders’ Consciousness Space. I’ve already found it, and the goblins say they need a Magic consultant to help. It’s urgent. We build this first, then we can look at the other stuff." Zog pointed to the blueprints on the floor.
The goblin Engineers had drawn them. They’d already developed the technology to create blueprints instead of just winging it.
However, other Engineers couldn’t really understand those blueprints; the goblins had their own unique system.
"Forget it, I can’t make heads or tails of these. Just show me the original documentation for the method."
Furin took the source material and began to study it.
「Two minutes later.」
"Hmm..." Furin began to ponder.
"What is it? Is it difficult?" Zog asked.
"No, it’s not difficult. On the contrary, it’s surprisingly simple. So simple it probably doesn’t even qualify as a One Ring Spell—a Trick at best. It’s just that the underlying logic is bizarre. Extremely bizarre. It’s completely different from the principles of normal Magic application. That’s why no Mage has discovered it after all this time. It has no connection to the Magic of any other School," Furin explained.
’So, the Mages’ research into Magic has barely scratched the surface.’
"Uh, so, it’s easy to implement?"
Zog understood. According to Furin, the technique was simple, but its discovery was a matter of pure luck. It was just that in all this time, no one had happened to stumble upon this particular line of research.
Since it had no connection to any other School of Magic, it wasn’t part of the overall Magic tech tree. It was an isolated tech node, with no prerequisites or subsequent applications.
It felt like a concept from a science fiction novel he had read before.
In the book, faster-than-light travel was actually a very simple technology. But since it was completely unrelated to all other fields of science, it was the kind of thing anyone could discover by pure chance. It’s just that no Human had ever been that lucky...
"Very easy to implement."
As she spoke, Furin got to work. In less than ten minutes, she had finished crafting the Magic Rune portion of the device.
"That fast?"
"Yep."
"Shouldn’t we test it first?" Zog asked, a little worried.
"No need. This part is so simple it’s impossible to mess up. Oh, but the parts the goblins made... those probably do need testing."
Furin had always felt that things made by goblins weren’t very reliable.
It was a prejudice, but an understandable one, because the goblins’ construction process looked utterly unreliable.
Especially after witnessing their methods firsthand, it took a bit of courage to actually use what they’d built.
But the goblins were a proactive bunch.
Before Zog could even give the order, one of the goblins slapped the device onto its own head. A few minutes later, it took it off and shot Zog a thumbs-up.
"Alright, my turn then." Zog took the device and put it on his head as well.
"Hey, what about that magical knowledge you promised?" Furin asked from the side.
"What’s the rush? A few more minutes won’t kill you. Woohoo! Soul Ascenders, Big Zog is coming in!"
A familiar dizzying sensation washed over him, just like connecting to the Divine Remains. It felt as if his consciousness was being grabbed, kneaded, and then flung into the far distance.
A few seconds later, his consciousness settled, and Zog’s mind cleared.
The physical sensation of connecting was frankly unpleasant, a far cry from the experience of linking with the Divine Remains now that a deity had hatched from it.
But when Zog’s vision returned, the sight before him more than made up for the unpleasant connection process.
A massive city, the likes of which could never be found on the Feilin Continent, was filled with countless magnificent and majestic structures of incredible design. Ornate spires and floating buildings completely defied the laws of physics. The Magic Power flowing from various bizarre crystals far exceeded the capabilities of even a Legendary Mage.
Everything here served as a reminder to outsiders that this was not reality.
You know, you had to hand it to them. This bunch of Soul Ascenders really knew a thing or two about architecture.
He wondered how many generations of Soul Ascenders it had taken to construct such a Consciousness Space.
The traces of history were visible in the architectural styles; different buildings bore the hallmarks of different eras, reminding Zog of many places he had visited before.
And now, they all existed in the same space.
It was like a meticulously designed hub city from a fantasy game, only magnified many, many times over.
Alright, Zog had to admit it. This place was cooler than Twin Tower City by a factor of several Deepwater Cities.
There was simply no comparison.
After all, this was a place that didn’t obey the laws of physics.
Then Zog looked at himself. His appearance was his original form.
’If the connection process for this thing is anything like the Divine Remains, then logically...’
With a mere thought, Zog changed into the form of the baby dragon.
’Just as I thought. You can customize your character here.’
Even more like a game.
’Using this form should make the other Soul Ascenders lower their guard around me.’
’What bad intentions could a little baby dragon possibly have?’
With his new appearance set, Zog began to explore. It was a bit like playing a VR game, but he had other senses besides sight and hearing.
He could tell the sensations were different from real-world experiences, but to have multiple senses at all was already incredible.
Zog strolled through the giant city.
As he walked along, he could see blurry phantoms gradually solidifying into distinct figures.
’Are they loading in, or are people just logging on?’
Following the direction others were headed, Zog arrived at a plaza where there were clearly more Soul Ascenders.
He casually found a nearby bench.
’The bench is sittable!’
Zog decided to see what had drawn such a large crowd here.
He had barely sat down when he heard a voice from behind him.
"Why are you able to sit there?"
