Chapter 572: Chapter 352: One Look and the Door Stays Shut
Sales promotions are, in fact, a skill.
How to be attractive enough to make people feel like they’re getting an incredible deal, without actually losing much profit.
And how to get people to make impulse buys on things they don’t really need.
It all requires careful design.
For this reason, the Zog Group had an internal team dedicated to planning and running various events.
In the conference room, Zog and a large group of top graduates were figuring out how to set targeted traps for different user groups.
One of the "negative" side effects of a thriving commercial sector was that many talented students from foundational theoretical disciplines would switch careers.
After all, making a name for yourself in theoretical research was incredibly difficult, while the money from working for a large corporation was tangible.
Thus, this event planning team included quite a few people who had majored in subjects like mathematics and physics.
When faced with the choice between pursuing advanced studies with their advisors or signing a contract with the Zog Group, they had unhesitatingly chosen the latter.
Zog did, in fact, pay them much, much more than their advisors ever could.
It reached the point where many academic institutions publicly accused the numerous commercial entities, led by Zog, of hindering Feilin’s academic development.
To be fair, there was a grain of truth to that claim.
Zog, however, chose to ignore it.
He even argued that commercial prosperity, in turn, fueled the rapid development of certain disciplines.
Besides, academia wasn’t for everyone.
At the very least, the barrier to entry was much higher than it was for becoming an event planner.
Back in the conference room, these former research grunts were rapidly drafting the promotion plan.
"Our primary goals for this event are to increase our user base, boost the visibility of the Zog online shopping platform, and get new urban users accustomed to online shopping. Our secondary goals are to increase sales revenue and to stress-test the platform’s maximum traffic capacity."
A professional event plan should always start with clearly defined goals.
"Therefore, we can accept low profit margins, or even a small loss, to ensure a high conversion rate.
"The specific plan is as follows: First, we’ll establish this promotion as an annual shopping festival to build user habits.
"Second, we’ll implement a site-wide base discount, with additional limited-time discounts on specific product categories at different intervals to keep users continuously online.
"Third, new users will receive a first-order discount and registration coupons, while existing users can redeem points based on their purchase history for free gifts.
"Fourth, we’ll have spending rebates. The rebate amounts will be tiered, and the specific rules are being drafted..."
One complex spreadsheet after another was displayed.
Every number on them was the result of meticulous calculations.
This ensured that even if consumers schemed and calculated down to the last penny, they would, at best, eke out a tiny profit after buying a pile of things they didn’t actually need.
And when the rules were complex enough, many people would instinctively resist trying to figure them out. That’s where the "shopping guide" writers came in.
Of course, these content creators were also arranged by Zog.
Ostensibly "helping you save money," they were, in reality, all just advertisements.
After listening to the planners’ proposal, Zog nodded and said, "I have a few additions. Extend the warm-up period from one week to two. Distribute some coupons, run some limited-time lotteries, flash sales, that kind of thing.
"To stress-test our maximum traffic capacity, we need everyone to visit the site at exactly 12:00 on the day of the festival. So, set up a diminishing discount that starts at 12:00. The closer an order is placed to 12:00, the bigger the discount."
’Zog was eager to see what new form that Divine Remains Spirit Body Egg could take.’
’His intuition told him that this ’faith’ business wasn’t just about the total number of believers, but also about the number praying simultaneously.’
’Otherwise, why would the gods of old have held so many large-scale sacrificial ceremonies?’
"Understood. We’ll flesh out the details and submit a new proposal by tonight."
When a major sales promotion was underway, platform employees could forget about clocking out on time; they were all basically on standby for the duration.
Even after adding these points, Zog felt something was still missing.
’What’s an essential part of online shopping?’
’Oh, right. We’re missing someone to move the products.’
With advancements in livestreaming technology, the cost of setting up a broadcast had dropped considerably. While it wasn’t yet at the point where just anyone could start streaming from their phone, the costs for setting up an official broadcast studio specifically for shopping were easily covered.
"We’ll set up a livestream, with a host dedicated to showcasing the various products on sale."
"Like on a Demon Vision show?"
"Yes, something like that."
"But the conversion rates for Demon Vision shopping shows are terrible," the event planning team lead said.
The shopping shows on Magic Vision Devices had never been very effective. They always aired in off-peak time slots and rarely sold anything. The audience consisted of far more people tuning in to see the pretty female hosts than to actually buy something.
"No, selling products via livestream is different from selling them on Demon Vision. The purchasing process is much simpler. Demon Vision requires you to make a phone call, but with a livestream, it’s just ’3, 2, 1, the link is live.’ And since it’s live, the interaction with the host is also crucial. We will, however, need a charismatic host."
’Zog thought about it. When it came to moving products, a pretty female host wasn’t necessarily the most effective option.’
’He recalled the top-tier livestream sellers back on Earth. The high-Emotional Intelligence way to describe them was that they had... ’distinctive personal styles.’’
’And they didn’t just purely sell things. They created content and then made a silky-smooth transition into the sales pitch.’
’They had to be engaging conversationalists, able to prevent any lulls or dead air during the broadcast.’
’Who would be a good fit?’
’A movie star? No, that didn’t feel quite right. A celebrity could appear as a guest, though.’
’An influencer from YouTube? The pool of candidates was too large.’
Wait!
Suddenly, a suitable candidate popped into Zog’s head. Correction—a suitable *dragon*.
