Chapter 543: The Dragon Hunting Corps’ Career Turning Point
Chapter 543 -338: The Dragon Hunting Corps’ Career Turning Point
“Elder, could I have another lamb chop? Just one, that’s all I need,” the Little Black Dragon on the backpack asked, a bit sheepishly.
He couldn’t resist the temptation of the lamb chops.
They smelled too good.
And they tasted different from the sheep he caught himself. He knew cooked meat tasted better, but he didn’t know how to cook it just right.
He would just blast it with a puff of fire and hope for the best.
Those were the best lamb chops he had ever eaten.
There were so many flavors layered together, and plenty of salt—a valuable commodity in the wild.
“They’re all gone. You ate all the rations I brought, not even a bone is left,” the Green Dragon replied.
In the past, Mier wouldn’t have spat out the bones either. But now he was a refined Green Dragon who didn’t eat bones.
And this Little Black Dragon, who knows how long it had been since he’d had a full meal, devoured nearly twenty kilograms of food in one go.
Fortunately, the reward for finding a Dragon was more than this.
Finding his speed too slow to keep up, the Green Dragon had decided to carry him on his back.
The cargo backpack was rigid, so carrying a Juvenile Dragon on it was no problem.
Besides, he didn’t have many deliveries at the moment, so he wasn’t fully loaded.
“And you don’t have to call me ‘Elder’,” the Green Dragon said.
Due to the Dragon Race’s extremely long reproductive lifespans, the matter of generations was a total mess.
The relationship between the likes of Furin and Doudou was already considered relatively clear in a Dragon’s family tree.
It was common for Dragons of the same age who didn’t know each other to actually be relatives, yet at the same time be separated by eight generations.
Therefore, in the Dragon Language, for a Dragon older than oneself, one would use their title if they had one. If not, they would uniformly be called ‘Elder’.
Those as old as an Ancient Dragon were called ‘Ancients’.
It was a very formal form of address, and for the Green Dragon, who was gradually getting used to the atmosphere of life in Deepwater City, such formality felt a bit uncomfortable.
“My name is Merkusor. You can also call me Mier.”
“Alright, Mier.”
“What’s your name?” Noticing the Little Black Dragon was a little nervous, Mier decided to chat with him for a while.
‘Making deliveries like this is pretty boring anyway.’
“My name is Nixela, but you can call me Nick!”
“Your scales are beautiful. It’s rare to see a Black Dragon with such lustrous scales.”
“Thanks. My father’s are the same.”
“And your father is?”
“The great Slaxxis Black Scale!”
“I’ve heard of him.”
Actually, he hadn’t. But this was the kind of savvy an aspiring manager like Mier needed!
“If your father is the ‘great’ Black Scale, then why do you look like you’ve been starving for a long time?”
Hearing Mier’s question, Nick flushed with embarrassment. “I thought I was ready to be independent, so I ran away from home early, but I didn’t expect…”
“Didn’t expect to get a taste of how harsh the world can be,” Mier teased.
“I can survive on my own!”
“Right, right.”
“I really can! It’s just… I ran into a group of really tough people. They kept chasing me, so I ran.”
“A tough group of people?”
“Yeah. The place you’re taking me… it’s safe, right?” The people chasing Nick seemed to have left him with a deep-seated fear.
“Ha, if Deepwater City isn’t considered safe, then nowhere is.”
“Are the Dragons there all powerful?”
“It’s not just the Dragons that are powerful. Everything there is powerful.”
“I don’t believe you!”
“You’re about to see for yourself.”
Just as the Green Dragon Mier finished speaking, the view before them suddenly opened up. The two Dragons, one large and one small, burst out of the jungle into a wide, open expanse.
In the distance, a massive city could be seen. It had no walls, sprawling across the plain at the mouth of a river leading to the sea.
Nick’s eyes widened as he stared at the unfamiliar city. He could smell the dense Magic Energy wafting from it, as if it were a colossal beast that inhaled and exhaled metal and Inscriptions, its veins flowing with Magic Power.
Many Dragons could be seen in the sky, flying freely.
Since birth, Nick had never seen so many Dragons at once, nor had he seen so many of them in flight.
His instincts told him that this place was truly powerful.
In comparison, the group that had been chasing him seemed completely insignificant, like a bunch of scavengers.
‘Maybe following him here was a very wise decision.’
‘Yes, that’s right. I only chose to eat the lamb chops because I knew coming here was the right thing to do. It wasn’t because I was too greedy and couldn’t resist…’
At the same time, in a forest several dozen kilometers away, a squad of fully armed Warriors in full sets of medium armor carried the most advanced firearms money could buy. The stocks of their guns were carved with varying numbers of notches, indicating their kill counts.
They were examining tracks on the ground.
“He fell here, rolled twice, and then landed here.”
A middle-aged man was lying prone on the ground, carefully observing the footprints.
“It’s not just the one Dragon. There was an adult Dragon, a very strange one.”
“What’s strange about it?”
“Judging by the size of the footprints, it should be a Dragon that only recently reached adulthood. But the prints are too deep—far deeper than a Dragon of this size should make.”
“Maybe… it’s just too fat?”
“What nonsense. How many years has it been since we’ve seen a fat Dragon?”
“But what if? And isn’t running into another Dragon a good thing for us? Since when has the Broken Tooth Dragon Hunting Corps ever been afraid of an adult Dragon?”
These Warriors were none other than the famous Dragon Hunting Corps from the Adventurer Guild, the very ones who held the record for the oldest Dragon hunted by Humans in the last century.
At one thousand and twenty-four years of age, it was old enough to be classified as an Ancient Dragon, and not far from becoming a true Ancient Dragon.
For that battle, the team made the most thorough preparations, but their losses were still heavy. They lost more than ten of their brothers, and several survivors were so severely injured that they had to retire from adventuring forever.
But the result was worth it. They became famous overnight and became one of the highest-earning teams in the Guild for the past decade.
