Chapter 402: Chapter 275: This Game Is So Addictive

The young Dwarves tactfully forgot what Bane had just said.

"In this Plane, our Furnace Clan has been bullied relentlessly by the Copper Hammer Clan! They’ve cordoned off all the important resource mobs in the wild and won’t let our clan members kill them. We’re in desperate need of a top-tier powerhouse right now. Master, you have to do something!"

"Such a thing is happening?!" Bane’s temper flared. ’How dare the Copper Hammer Clan bully the Furnace Clan!’

"Where have they cordoned things off? I’ll go take a look."

After saying that, Bane asked another question, "Is my current combat power enough to take them on?"

"Enough? Of course, it’s enough! With your current gear, you could take on a hundred of them by yourself!"

Spurred on by his young followers, Bane took control of his Dwarf Warrior and led the Furnace Clan in a counterattack against the Copper Hammer Clan.

It was called a counterattack, but really, it just meant attacking any member of the Copper Hammer Clan they saw in the wild.

Clan members with combat power too low to be of use on the battlefield were in charge of taunting the other side in the world channel.

The current Plane Level was capped at Level 25, so even though Bane’s level was a little behind, his immense gear advantage made him practically invincible.

At first, he was still a bit cautious, controlling his character manually to dodge enemy attacks.

He gradually realized their attacks barely scratched him, so he switched on auto-battle. He watched his character slaughter everyone on screen while basking in the flattery of the other Dwarves.

This game felt absolutely amazing.

The one-sided battle continued for several dozen minutes until, finally, the Copper Hammer Clan Leader came online and posted a Plane-wide announcement.

"Truce! In thirty minutes, a powerful enemy from an Alternate Plane will invade. I dare you to a damage competition. Whoever has the lower damage is the other’s grandson!"

Bane scornfully replied with an announcement of his own, "Who’s afraid of you!"

Then he turned and asked the Dwarf next to him, "What’s this ’powerful enemy from an Alternate Plane’ invasion?"

"It’s a big battlefield boss that spawns on the hour. All players on the Plane can participate. While you fight it, there’s a damage leaderboard, and the clan of the player with the highest damage gets an extra reward," the young Dwarf explained.

Bane mostly understood. He hadn’t figured out most things in this game yet, but in any case, having high damage was what mattered.

"So, is the Copper Hammer Clan Leader any good?"

"We’re not sure, but... but his character’s combat power is a little higher."

"What?!" Bane couldn’t sit still any longer. He immediately opened the cash shop and bought everything he could use.

Soon, a "Not Enough Funds" notification popped up.

"Huh? Didn’t I just deposit a Hundred Gold Coins?" Bane was utterly shocked.

"That’s just how this game is. It’s all about combat power. A Hundred Gold Coins doesn’t go very far."

Bane hesitated for a few seconds, wondering if he was being too extravagant with his money.

’No, that’s not it. The clan’s honor is at stake!’

He immediately rushed out of the internet cafe to the nearest bank. A dozen or so minutes later, he returned, pushing a small cart with what looked like at least a thousand Gold Coins, and stopped at the front desk.

"Deposit it all! We’ll see who wins now!"

Now flush with funds, Bane began another round of boosting his combat power. Just before the Alternate Plane invasion event, he finally surpassed the Copper Hammer Clan Leader on the combat power rankings by two spots.

’This should be a sure thing now.’

Satisfied, Bane entered the great battlefield.

However, the situation was completely different from what he had imagined. The Copper Hammer Clan Leader’s damage meter quickly shot to the top of the rankings, leaving Bane far behind.

By the end, Bane’s total damage wasn’t even half of the Copper Hammer Clan Leader’s.

A brand new announcement appeared at the top of the screen.

"Where’s my grandson? Where is he? What Furnace? More like an Ass-furnace!"

An old Dwarf’s blush is more potent than a torrent of curses.

Bane, at a speed visible to the naked eye, turned beet-red.

However, the old Dwarf still had some sense of pride. Instead of starting a flame war he couldn’t win, he asked a young Dwarf, "Why is his damage so high when his combat power is lower than mine?"

"Ah, I know!" the internet cafe manager, who had been watching the excitement for a while, chimed in. "This game’s stat system is really complex. That guy’s stats are probably just better optimized for damage."

"Then how do I surpass him?"

Bane didn’t want to hear anything else right now; he just wanted to get his revenge.

"There’s a streamer on YouTube called the War King. He’s a pro player who’s doing breakdowns of this game’s stat system. If you tip him, he can even help you optimize your account directly."

Hearing this from the manager, Bane immediately searched for the War King and started studying intently.

He had no idea until he started learning, but this game had so many hidden complexities.

Not only were the stats complicated, but how to spend money was also complicated.

Buying directly from the store was the least efficient way. Special bundles would be triggered at certain times, and those were the real deals.

Bane watched the video, and for the first time in ages, he started taking notes.

As he wrote, he muttered, "Hmph. If I can buy so much stuff with this little money, the game developers must be losing their shirts..."
