Chapter 338: Chapter 250: Three-Dragon Steamroll Battle Plan (Part 3)
But now, they were all standing there with vacant eyes, completely unconscious.
They were showing all the signs of being completely lost in an illusion.
There was a Magical Device—judging by its appearance, it was designed to hijack Magic Vision Device signals.
It wasn’t complex or particularly special, and the craftsmanship was shoddy.
Back at the Zog Factory, this would’ve been scrapped as a defective product.
The only reason they’d succeeded last time was that the original Magic Vision Device network had absolutely no security measures.
There was also a Magic Vision Device, which was broadcasting the live finale of Feilin’s Best Songs. The final round to determine the top three had just begun.
They were obviously watching to see if their signal hijack was successful.
"Just these few people?"
"Just these few."
This wasn’t as many people as Zog had expected. "Where’s the video they were planning to swap in?"
"It’s right here." Furin pointed to a Magic Crystal Stone inside the Magical Device.
There was even an instruction manual next to the Magical Device. ’How thoughtful.’
Zog followed the instructions, swapping the Magic Crystal Stone with the one storing the Church’s dark history.
He then took out a camera and photographed every corner of the house, so the Church would have something to compare it to when they arrived.
Only after he had done all that did he turn to Doudou.
"What’s this ’unbelievable’ thing you were talking about? It can’t be this machine, can it?"
"Of course not, it’s upstairs!"
"It’s true, upstairs is very strange," Furin affirmed.
Brimming with skepticism, Zog headed upstairs, saying as he went,
"What’s all the fuss about..."
"Holy shit!"
An involuntary curse escaped Zog’s lips.
Upstairs were several other Magical Devices. Unlike the one downstairs, the cores of these machines were Humans and Demons.
They were suspended in vats filled with some kind of solution. Their skulls had been cut open, and several wires were plugged directly into their wrinkled brains, emitting the eerie glow of Magic Runes.
The whole scene reeked of some twisted, cult-like experiment.
Connected to each vat was a helmet-like device containing several long needles, which would presumably pierce the user’s skull when worn.
’So that’s where the three people downstairs got the scars on the backs of their heads.’
"What are these things for?"
These machines were completely beyond Zog’s understanding.
"I don’t know," Furin replied. "We’d need to study them closely."
Doudou chimed in from the side, "I don’t know either, but I’d bet their purpose is something seriously twisted."
"Isn’t it in their memories?"
"I already checked. Their memories of these machines only cover the time before and after they connected. Everything in between is gone."
Zog scratched his head, circling the machines a couple of times.
He wanted to take one back to study.
But the machines were bolted to the floor. The Church would notice the marks if he tried to remove one.
Then, he noticed a large wooden crate in the corner of the room.
Zog walked right over and tore it open with one of his claws.
Inside was an unassembled Magical Device.
It was slightly different from the others in the room—its core was a Tiefling.
"I don’t think the Church will notice if we take this one."
As he spoke, Zog summoned a Treasure Chest Monster, preparing to hoist the machine and stuff it inside.
But the instant his claw touched the machine, a profound sense of danger welled up within him.
It was an intuition honed by a life spent in constant danger.
He’d dubbed it the Zog Jolt.
This time, however, the jolt came a little too late. Perhaps his recent, peaceful life had dulled his senses.
In any case, he couldn’t pull his claw back in time, and it made contact with the machine.
In that instant, his consciousness felt as if it were being ripped from his body.
Simultaneously, Zog heard a voice repeating over and over.
"Join the great Soul Ascension..."
