Chapter 326: Chapter 245: The Advancing Youth (4)
’No way.’ Zog’s threat still echoed in his ears.
He didn’t want to get captured and sent to the mines.
Steeling his resolve, he decided to take a risk bigger than any he had ever taken before.
He was going to climb the wall into the City Lord’s Mansion.
He found a suitable spot, leaped up, and grabbed the top of the wall with both hands. His legs kicked and scraped as he arduously squirmed his way up.
He had envisioned doing a cool muscle-up, but he wasn’t skilled enough and couldn’t get over the top. He had to resort to a less elegant method, but at least no one was around to see it.
Meanwhile, not far away, a guard from the City Lord’s Mansion was reporting with a Sound Transmission Rune.
"Butler, Butler, codename ’Brat’ has come over the wall. Repeat, ’Brat’ has come over the wall."
"Pretend he isn’t there," came the reply through the Rune.
"There’s a problem. The brat probably doesn’t know where the young lady’s room is. He’s going in the wrong direction."
"..."
The other end of the Rune fell silent.
The butler felt weary to his bones. The City Lord’s order was to not allow the brat anywhere near the property.
The young lady’s order was to let him in if he came.
The Lady’s order was that if the brat didn’t come, they were to go and get him.
The vote was two to one.
As far as the butler was concerned, the best-case scenario was for the brat to take the initiative and use unconventional means to see the young lady.
"Scare him a little. Scare him in the direction of the young lady’s room," he instructed into the Rune.
A few minutes later, Peter was cowering in panic at the base of a wall.
Not far away, the beam of light from a Lighting Technique drew closer and closer.
Peter’s heart leaped into his throat.
Just as he was about to be discovered, the beam of light stopped.
The guard shouted, "Young lady, you didn’t see anyone suspicious, did you?"
"No," came Grace’s voice from the second floor.
Then the beam of light moved off into the distance.
’So Grace’s room is on the second floor?’
Peter thanked his lucky stars.
He cleared his throat, his voice trembling slightly, but he still worked up the courage to call out, "Grace, Grace."
Grace must have heard him, but she was still angry and deliberately shut the window.
Peter continued, "I’m sorry I didn’t tell you about my decision to go to Deepwater City. I was too insecure and sensitive. I always feel like I’m not worthy of standing beside you.
"That’s why... that’s why I have to go to Deepwater City! I’m going to become a Mechanical Master there! I’m going to invent the greatest firearm, and I’m going to become more powerful than the City Lord! Then... then I’ll... with you... with you..."
As he reached the end, Peter’s voice suddenly trailed off.
"You’ll what with me?"
The second-floor window suddenly flew open. Grace leaned out with a smile, looking down at Peter as she asked.
Interrupted like that, most of the courage Peter had so painstakingly mustered evaporated, and he found himself unable to say the words.
"Go on and say it. You were being so brave just a moment ago, weren’t you?" Grace said, leaning on her windowsill. "You coward. If you don’t say it, I won’t forgive you."
"I want," Peter clenched his fists, his palms already slick with sweat, "to be with you."
Having said it, he deflated in an instant.
Grace, however, was clearly not satisfied. She teased, "What did you say? Your voice was too soft, I didn’t hear you. Say it again."
...
"What? Say it again?!"
In the master bedroom, the City Lord couldn’t believe what he was hearing. His face was ferocious as he trembled like a leaf.
"She’s telling him to say it again?"
He desperately wanted to go and stop them, but his hand was caught in his wife’s grasp, and he didn’t dare make a move.
"It’s quite nice," his wife said lightly. "Isn’t it just adorable?"
"Adorable? Someone just climbed right into the City Lord’s Mansion!"
He knew his wife must have pulled some strings, but he didn’t dare point the finger at her.
"What a scandal! This can’t get out!"
「Meanwhile, over ten kilometers away, at Zog’s home.」
He hadn’t sent anyone to follow, but he had sent a camera.
The security feed was broadcasting live from the City Lord’s Mansion.
"Are you some kind of pervert?" Furin said in disgust. "A great big Dragon, peeping on a couple of kids confessing their love in the middle of the night?"
"So, you watching or not?"
"Scoot over."
Furin sat down in front of the monitor as well.
Might as well watch if it’s on.
While satisfying his thirst for gossip, Zog also took note of what Peter had said about "the greatest firearm."
He planned to have someone keep an eye on Peter once he reached Deepwater City. If the boy showed talent, he would offer some support. Who knew, maybe he really had what it takes.
