The Rebirth of Humanity
Chapter 67: The Reunion of Fafnir and Sonora
Chapter : The Reunion of Fafnir and Sonora
Several days after Fafnir emerged from the cocoon, he and Griselda left the Sovereign Palace and headed westward through the sky.
They could have traveled directly through space, but they chose not to. Instead, they preferred to fly together throughout the journey. Fafnir wanted to spend some time with his wife away from the affairs of governance and the pressures that had accompanied his return, while Griselda cherished every moment by his side after her long wait.
They flew side by side above the clouds, sometimes talking about simple matters, and at other times simply remaining silent and enjoying each other’s presence. During their long journey, they saw vast islands and continents stretching beneath them, immense forests extending across enormous distances, and oceans that seemed to have no end.
In the waters of the Great Ocean, enormous sea creatures occasionally appeared before them. Some resembled ancient mythical beasts, while others emerged from the depths for brief moments before disappearing once more into the abyssal darkness.
Ten days had passed since they left the capital.
And on the tenth day, something different appeared on the horizon.
It was a medium-sized island, yet it looked like a separate fragment of paradise. Dense green forests covered its surface, and the trees rose to unnatural heights. Some plants reached dozens of meters into the sky, while rare flowers of vivid colors spread among the branches and across the open plains.
The island was not merely a home for plants.
Ancient animals roamed its lands freely, some of them belonging to species that had gone extinct throughout the rest of Gandalia ages ago. Enormous creatures grazed among the trees, while others hunted their prey, and the voices of ancient beasts echoed from deep within the forest.
As they approached the island’s borders, Fafnir completely concealed his aura.
In an instant, his presence seemed to vanish from the perception of the surrounding world. Even the strongest beings on the island would be unable to sense him unless he deliberately revealed himself.
Fafnir gazed at the island for several moments before turning toward Griselda and asking in a mocking tone:
“Is this island where that wretched woman lives in this era?”
Griselda smiled and nodded.
“Yes.”
She then raised her hand and pointed toward the depths of the island.
“Her home is in this direction.”
Griselda flew forward, effortlessly cutting through the enormous forest, while Fafnir followed calmly behind her.
After several minutes of flight, an unusual structure appeared before them in the middle of the forest.
It was a beautiful wooden palace built from the trees themselves, as though nature itself had created its walls and pillars. Its colors were vivid, rare flowers surrounded it from every direction, and plants hung from its roofs and windows, making the palace appear to be a natural part of the forest rather than a structure separate from it.
Fafnir and Griselda landed before the gate.
Griselda stepped forward and called out clearly:
“Sonora, it’s me, Griselda. Open the door.”
Silence followed for several moments.
Then Fafnir heard footsteps approaching from behind the gate.
They were steady footsteps, the sound of high heels echoing across the wooden floor.
The sound drew closer and closer.
Then the large green gate opened with a distinct sound.
A stunningly beautiful woman appeared before them.
“A breathtakingly beautiful woman, 185 centimeters tall, with vivid green hair and green eyes, her fair skin flawless and soft. Her figure was that of an hourglass—slender and athletic, with a narrow waist, wide hips, and long, smooth legs. What drew the most attention, however, was her very large breasts, which were even larger than Griselda’s, despite Griselda also possessing a large bust. She wore a slightly revealing dress that exposed a small portion of her breasts and cleavage at the top, while at the bottom it was slit at the side, revealing her left thigh through the opening. She wore high heels on her beautiful feet.”
Sonora stood confidently before the gate, a radiant smile appearing on her face the moment she saw Griselda.
The instant she recognized her, her expression completely changed.
“Gris!”
She immediately rushed toward her and embraced her warmly.
“Gris, I really missed you!”
Griselda laughed and embraced her old friend in return.
“Sona, I missed you too.”
It was a sincere and affectionate embrace. Their friendship was an old one, and nearly a decade had passed since their last meeting.
After a few moments, the two women separated, their smiles still lingering on their faces.
Sonora looked Griselda up and down before saying:
“You’ve changed a little.”
Griselda raised an eyebrow with a smile.
“And you haven’t changed much.”
Sonora laughed.
“Liar.”
“Perhaps a little.”
The two exchanged a warm, friendly look, as though the years that had passed since their last meeting had not been enough to weaken their friendship.
But at first, Sonora did not notice the man standing behind Griselda.
Then her eyes shifted toward him.
The moment she saw him, her smile froze.
A man stood quietly behind Griselda.
He was 198 centimeters tall, with perfect features that were almost impossible to describe. His beauty possessed something beyond natural handsomeness, reaching a level that seemed almost unreal. His long black hair flowed behind him like the night, his skin was pure and flawless white, and his crimson eyes gave his face an aura that was both strangely intimidating and terrifying.
His body was lean and muscular, perfectly proportioned, and even his slightest movement carried an unmistakable sense of the immense power concealed beneath his calm exterior.
Sonora stared at him.
For several seconds, she could not utter a single word.
Griselda noticed immediately, and a mischievous little smile appeared on her lips.
She knew exactly what was about to happen.
Sonora raised her hand and pointed at Fafnir, then asked Griselda in bewilderment:
“Gris... who is this handsome man who came with you?”
She paused for a moment, then her eyes widened slightly.
“Could he possibly be your husband? The father of your child?”
Griselda did not answer.
She merely looked at her with a teasing smile.
That only made Sonora even more confused.
As for Fafnir, he silently observed Sonora.
For the first time since arriving, a hint of surprise appeared in his eyes.
He remembered Sonora from the past.
She had been beautiful back then, possessing striking beauty even in that ancient era.
Yet the woman standing before him now seemed more mature, more beautiful, and more feminine than the one preserved in his memories.
He continued looking at her for several moments.
And she continued staring at him in the same way.
Meanwhile, Griselda’s smile grew wider.
She was enjoying the spectacle.
After nearly a decade since their last meeting, Sonora still had not recognized him.
Finally, Fafnir broke the silence.
He stepped forward, wearing that arrogant expression that had remained unchanged for thousands of years.
In a cold, mocking voice, he said:
“It’s only been a few thousand years, and you still failed to recognize this great one, you old harlot.”
Sonora froze.
It was not merely the words.
It was his tone.
That irritating manner of speaking.
That unmistakable arrogance she knew so well.
Her eyes slowly widened.
She began examining his face more carefully.
Then, for a moment, it felt as though her mind had simply stopped.
Those features were not exactly the same as the ones she remembered.
But something about them was terrifyingly familiar.
His voice.
His gaze.
His expression.
That arrogance she could never mistake, no matter how much his appearance had changed.
Sonora took half a step backward and raised a trembling finger toward him as shock spread through her voice.
“No... no, impossible!”
She stared at him even more intently.
Then she cried out:
“Don’t tell me you’re that wretched fossil... Fafnir!”
At that very moment, Fafnir’s expression darkened.
He looked at her with cold crimson eyes and said:
“You’re still as rude as you were in the past, you big-breasted woman.”
Silence fell for a fraction of a second.
Then Griselda burst into laughter.
“HAHAHAHAHA!”
She covered her mouth with one hand, trying to restrain herself, but it was impossible.
She had been waiting for this moment ever since Sonora began staring at Fafnir.
Sonora turned toward her with a stunned expression.
“Gris! Don’t tell me this really is...”
Griselda interrupted her with an unmistakably delighted smile.
“Yes.”
She then looked toward Fafnir.
“He’s my husband.”
Sonora’s eyes widened even further.
“Your husband?!”
Griselda nodded confidently.
“My husband.”
Then she gently placed a hand over her stomach.
“And he is also the father of my child.”
Sonora froze once again.
She looked at Griselda.
Then at Fafnir.
Then back at Griselda.
“Wait... you mean this man is Fafnir?!”
Fafnir replied coldly:
“Who else could it be?”
Sonora placed a hand against her forehead.
“I don’t believe this...”
Griselda laughed again.
“Looks like it took you quite a while to recognize him.”
Sonora gave her a sharp look.
“How was I supposed to recognize him?! His appearance has completely changed!”
Fafnir raised an eyebrow.
“And yet, you should have recognized this great one the moment you heard his voice.”
Sonora stared at him.
“Rather, I should have known that someone this irritating could only be you!”
Silence fell for a moment.
Then a cold smile appeared on Fafnir’s face.
As for Griselda, she was barely able to stop laughing.
The two men who had never been able to tolerate each other in the past had finally met again, as though thousands of years had not been enough to change their relationship in the slightest.
But this time, there was one major difference.
Fafnir was no longer merely Sonora’s old rival.
He had become her close friend’s husband.
And he was also the father of the child Sonora had examined years ago.
For that reason, Sonora realized that this reunion, nearly a decade after their last meeting, was not going to be peaceful at all.
