The Rebate Tycoon: Spend on Him, Get Rich
Chapter 178 - 177: Roasting a Dumbass on Sight Is the Most Satisfying
Chapter 178: Chapter 177: Roasting a Dumbass on Sight Is the Most Satisfying
If it weren’t for the school uniform she was wearing, the rest of the group really would have mistaken her for a female ghost. Three boys rushed over to help the White Lotus block the door, but the security guard outside kicked it so hard he nearly sent everyone flying.
Rian Sinclair had zero intention of helping. At worst, they’d get caught and the game would restart. The White Lotus definitely couldn’t hold the door on her own, though who knew what she had said to convince those three guys to help her.
Miss Sassy, standing off to the side, didn’t step forward either. She was primarily just too pissed off at them. Earlier, she had even told her boyfriend to pull the door open so the two girls outside could get in. But that woman had deliberately stood right in front of the door, making it awkward for her boyfriend to intervene. At the time, Miss Sassy had been half a second away from slapping the taste out of her mouth.
However, the security guard’s sudden violent kicking had genuinely scared her, so she dropped the idea of giving the girl a good smack. Technically, the guard outside had saved this little white lotus from a beating.
Miss Sassy just stood beside her boyfriend, watching coldly. She had been terrified earlier, but now she wasn’t so much scared as she was furious.
The guard continued kicking the door for several minutes. Just as the people holding it were about to exhaust their strength, he muttered a few curses and walked away.
The group blocking the door breathed a sigh of relief. Following the plot, their next task was to complete a series of puzzles. Everyone threw themselves into solving them, and it didn’t take long to figure out the answers.
Then, the Gamemaster’s voice came over the walkie-talkie, instructing everyone to move to the art room. Rian was the first out the door. While they had been running around earlier, she remembered noticing that the art room seemed to be right next to the classroom.
Following the Gamemaster’s hints, they placed a trophy in its designated spot, and everyone began to draw. At this point in the story, the character Connor Grant needed to go to the restroom to retrieve a pencil case.
Hearing the Gamemaster’s prompt, Rian asked, "Who’s playing Connor Grant? You have a solo mission."
A moment later, Miss Sassy shakily raised her hand. "I... I am..."
Seeing the once-tough girl now reduced to a trembling mess created a stark, almost amusing contrast. Out of kindness, Rian offered some advice. "The security guard and the female ghost are both highly likely to be hiding in the restroom, so expect a face-to-face jump scare.
"The pencil case will definitely be in the restroom where Cassie Lane is hiding. If you open the door and it’s the female ghost, just cover your face, walk right in, and grab the pencil case. If it’s the security guard, immediately run out of the restroom and find a place to barricade the door. The guard shouldn’t use as much force this time."
Clinging to her boyfriend’s arm, the girl nodded. She was genuinely terrified of this kind of stuff.
Rian listened carefully to the Gamemaster’s narration, summarizing the key points and challenges for her. "Connor Grant has two solo missions. After getting the pencil case, you have to return to the art room and stay there alone. Something will definitely pop out to scare you, but it won’t be the security guard.
"So, when you hear the female ghost’s voice, just cover your face. When the school bell rings, meet us in the classroom. I recommend not coming out to look for us on your own before then; otherwise, you might bump into Cassie Lane and trigger a chase sequence with the security guard."
The girl was still trembling slightly, but she calmed down and nodded. "It’s fine, girl. I won’t run around blindly. Once I finish my solo mission, I’ll just lay my head down in the art room and go to sleep! I’m super good at falling asleep in seconds!"
Her boyfriend gently patted her shoulder, whispering something to her.
The girl shook her head. "You don’t need to go for me. I refuse to be dead weight!"
Hearing this, Rian smiled and nodded. After watching the girl set off, she followed the Gamemaster’s instructions and headed toward the dean’s office. Soon after, Rian noticed the faint beam of a flashlight. "Get inside, quick," she warned. "The security guard is coming."
Rian pulled Sarah straight into the dean’s office. The three terrified boys immediately pressed their weight against the door as soon as they rushed in, and the boyfriend of the girl doing the solo mission stepped up to help them barricade it.
It wasn’t long before the guard left. Afterward, the Gamemaster directed Jose Rhodes to go to the infirmary for a vision test and to grab the dormitory keys while there. Once the bell rang, everyone was to return to the classroom.
Jose Rhodes was played by a guy. He was also a bit spooked, but seeing how brave the girls before him had been, he didn’t dare back down and headed straight out.
Meanwhile, Rian and the others completed a puzzle in the room. With three people cooperating, they each memorized three digits, remembered the sequence of the buttons, pressed them in order, and successfully retrieved a file folder.
Jose Rhodes, having finished his solo mission and secured the keys, returned to the classroom and handed them over to the guy playing Gina Dawson.
Receiving instructions from the Gamemaster, the guy hesitated in place for a moment before shakily heading out to the girls’ dormitory to retrieve a file and remain there.
As soon as Gina Dawson left, the school bell rang again. Rian took Sarah, grabbed the map, and called out to Miss Sassy’s boyfriend to head back to the classroom with them. It wasn’t long before the girl who had gone on the first solo mission also returned safely.
Once the group reconvened, they heard the next instruction: everyone was to proceed to the girls’ dormitory to regroup with Gina Dawson.
Upon arriving at the girls’ dorm, the player acting as the journalist Ashton Fletcher—which was Miss Sassy’s boyfriend—had to go search for news materials. This meant heading to the security room alone to sneak a look at the surveillance footage, returning to the dorm to report what he saw to the team, and then going solo to the restroom to retrieve a cassette tape dropped by the security guard.
Miss Sassy’s boyfriend wasn’t the fearful type. He nudged his girlfriend over to Rian. "Keep an eye on my girlfriend for a bit, please. She’s a little scared."
Rian nodded. The boyfriend didn’t waste any time; he took a quick glance at the map and set off. Seeing the look of worry on the girl’s face, Rian reached out with her free hand and gently patted her shoulder. "Don’t be scared," Rian said softly.
Sarah Forrest leaned in with a bright smile. "Don’t be scared, gorgeous. My Ria is a total badass! She’ll definitely protect you!"
The girl smiled and nodded, gradually relaxing. The three of them started chatting. "What’s your name, gorgeous?" the girl asked. "I really like your personality! When you run into a dumbass like that, you shouldn’t give her the time of day. Just flaming her right to her face is the most satisfying thing ever!"
Sarah laughed heartily. "I’m Sarah Forrest, and this is my besty, Rian Sinclair. What’s your name? Let’s be friends." She genuinely felt that this girl was her kind of people—unlike that little white lotus opposite them, who made her feel physically ill just looking at her.
The girl replied with equal enthusiasm. "I’m Melody, and my boyfriend is Finn Collins. I’ve wanted to play this for a long time, so I dragged him out to play with me since we finally had some free time."
"You and your boyfriend are so sweet together," Sarah commented. "He’s been protecting you this whole time. Is this that legendary peak boyfriend energy everyone talks about?"
Rian rolled her eyes hard at the side, while Melody replied with a smile, "You and your besty have a great relationship, too!"
"Hehe... That’s for sure." Hearing Sarah’s goofy laugh, Rian shook her head in fond exasperation.
Melody watched their interaction, her eyes brimming with amusement. As she thought of her own boyfriend, a quiet sense of happiness overflowed in her gaze as well.
Not long after, the sound of a chase echoed through the halls, followed by Finn rushing back into the dormitory. Following the instructions, he placed the cassette tape into the tape recorder.
A moment later, Cassie Lane’s crying emanated from the recorder. The gist of the recording was that her classmates had forced her to play the Four Corners game, and she was absolutely terrified.
