Chapter 134: Jason Rivers: I Just Have One Thing to Say, You Dog

The rest of them sat there utterly bewildered, while the two across from them focused entirely on devouring their food. However, based on what Jason Rivers had said, they all knew that those few days away had definitely been a turning point. They watched Ruby Forrest eat her meal happily, but… what on earth was Wyatt Winslow doing? Eating with his left hand? Since when did any of them remember Wyatt being left-handed?

Ulysses Shepherd leaned in close to Noel Sutton and voiced the question on all their minds. “Since when is Wyatt a lefty?”

Noel sighed and shook his head. “You guys are confused too, huh? I was just as baffled before. I didn’t know what crazy spell Wyatt was under. He said that if he got a girlfriend and wanted to hold her hand, how would he eat?

“I told him to just find a left-handed girlfriend then. Who knew he’d blurt out, ‘But she isn’t left-handed.’ The moment that slipped out, I knew the bastard already had a crush on someone. After that, he started learning to eat, write, and type with his left hand. And he actually managed to pull it off.

“Now the cocky jerk is ambidextrous. Love really does change a man completely.”

Noel viciously took a bite of fish. Rian Sinclair remained silent; after all, this wasn’t the first time she had encountered the phrase “love changes a man completely.” Jason Rivers and Ulysses Shepherd’s doubts were also cleared up. No wonder there was a period when the guy started learning to do things with his left hand—it was all leading up to this.

“Fuck me, this delayed PDA still hit me right in the face. I can’t believe this,” Ulysses complained, throwing a hand over his face in a desperate bid to erase that dog Wyatt from his mind. “And to think I actually joined Winslow the Second in learning to eat left-handed back then! I kept wondering how someone so impatient could suddenly calm down and learn to use his left hand.”

Jason cast a speechless glance at Ulysses before slinging an arm over his buddy’s shoulder. “Brothers in misery.”

Noel watched Jason and Ulysses’s lamentations with great interest. Good thing he’d been lucky enough to be present almost every time the guy had let his true feelings show, otherwise he’d be joining them in their pity party right now. And so, the five of them ate their late-night snack, each lost in their own thoughts.

After the meal, Wyatt Winslow and Ruby Forrest had braced themselves for an interrogation. But seeing that the others had no intention of asking anything, Wyatt voiced his confusion. “Wait, do none of you have anything to ask?”

Noel rolled his eyes hard and took the lead to reply. “Ask what? Ask if you two are officially together? A blind man could sense that.”

Beside him, Ulysses was irritated just looking at Wyatt. The guy was clueless, rubbing his newfound happiness in their faces and bullying them for being single. “Bro, do you think we’re blind to how smug you look right now? If you really want to show off, go do it at a pet store where the stray dogs can feast on your romance.”

Jason leaned back in his chair. “Red Winslow, I’ve just got one thing to say: you’re a dog!”

Hearing his friends’ remarks, Wyatt was in a rare good mood and didn’t clap back.

Rian Sinclair didn’t have much to add. She looked at Ruby and said, “If he bullies you, I’ll beat him up for you.”

Hearing Rian’s words, Wyatt nodded solemnly. “If I ever bully Ruby, don’t hold back. Beat me up all you want.” Beside him, Ruby Forrest lowered her head shyly and slipped her hand out of his grasp, too embarrassed to meet Wyatt’s eyes.

Wyatt felt the loss of that soft touch in his palm and cast a helpless look at Rian. She simply shrugged in return. “Regret it?”

Rian’s retort sent Jason and the others into fits of laughter, and they all gave her a thumbs-up.

Wyatt didn’t actually regret it; he was just a bit bummed about losing the soft warmth in his hand. If he’d known, he would have saved that declaration for when they were alone. Right now, he really wanted to slap himself in the face. Why did he have to run his mouth so fast? Wasn’t this what they called shooting yourself in the foot? Oh, wait—at least he still had the girl.

Noel clapped his hands with a chuckle and muttered, “That’s our Rian for you. You couldn’t drop a burn like that without two and a half years of heart blockage.”

Rian didn’t reply to Noel. She looked at the ducked head of Ruby Forrest and asked softly, “Are you full, Ruby?”

Hearing her name, Ruby looked up in a daze, her big, innocent eyes landing on Rian. She nodded, answering in a sweet voice, “I’m full, Rian!”

But immediately following that, a loud GRUMBLE echoed in the air. Rian fought back a smile as she looked at Ruby, who was now frantically clutching her stomach. Ruby’s small face flushed beet red in an instant as she shyly covered her belly. Rian didn’t mind at all; this little girl, Ruby, was just genuinely too adorable.

Rian then bent slightly to ruffle the girl’s hair. “If you’re still hungry, eat some more. We can’t let our Ruby go hungry, right, Wyatt?”

Suddenly called out, Wyatt reflexively shook his head. Realizing what he had just done, he stiffly turned his head toward Ruby Forrest, only to be met with her resentful glare. Wyatt knew he was screwed; he had just won over his girlfriend, and now he had made her mad again. He looked toward Rian Sinclair, only to see Rian looking back at him with a beaming smile. Seeing Rian’s expression, Wyatt realized that this was a trap she had deliberately set for him. And he had obediently jumped right in!

Wyatt’s expression turned woeful, while Jason and Ulysses laughed uproariously on the sidelines. Only Noel’s laughter was somewhat restrained.

But what could Wyatt do at this point? Just as he was about to lean in and coax her, Ruby Forrest grabbed Rian Sinclair’s hand and walked off. Ruby shot Wyatt a glance, causing him to freeze in his tracks. Then, Ruby simply turned on her heel and left, pulling Rian out of the private room with her.

Beside him, Noel clicked his tongue. “My, my, my. Chased away his new girlfriend the moment he got her. That’s our Winslow the Campus Kingpin for you! He certainly lives up to his reputation!”

Ulysses was also grinning from ear to ear. “Winslow the Second, what are you doing? How did the cooked goose fly right out of your hands?”

Jason found immense satisfaction in watching his good buddy suffer. “Red Winslow, tsk, tsk, tsk. I won’t say much, but those who know, know.”

Wyatt couldn’t even be bothered to bicker with them. Right now, his mind was completely consumed with figuring out how to coax Ruby. How was he supposed to comfort her when she was mad? But there were genuinely so many foods she couldn’t eat! He was already considering taking over the cooking in the future and had even begun planning to sign up for culinary classes.

Watching the man deep in thought, Noel shook his head lightly, laced his hands behind his head, and strolled in the direction the two girls had gone. Jason and Ulysses weren’t far behind, brushing past Wyatt and walking ahead, leaving him all alone in the rear.

Rian Sinclair let Ruby pull her along. Seeing how flustered and angry the girl was, she couldn’t help but chuckle in amusement. “What’s wrong, Ruby? Why are you so mad?”

Ruby Forrest furrowed her brows, raising her small hand and counting off on her fingers one by one. “Rian, look at him! I just agreed to be with him, and he’s still so mean! Didn’t they say men in love lose all their brain cells?

“And another thing, Rian, look—before we got together, we didn’t spend a ton of time with each other, so I still had chances to sneak in snacks. But we’ve barely started dating and he’s already managing me this strictly! What’s it going to be like in the future!”

The more Ruby spoke, the more she felt she shouldn’t have agreed to this relationship, and the more she thought about it, the more she regretted it. She seethed over the fact that he had tricked her into believing that being together meant she would be the one in charge of him. Otherwise, why would she have ever agreed?
