The Princess And The Lord
Chapter 1614: Shocking News
When Lory arrived at Cestine Palace through a secret passage, Lucas and the others were already waiting for her. Without delay, they escorted her to the secret medical facility beneath Cestine Palace, where Lucas worked.
The Lucient family’s health was considered paramount, so they never visited regular hospitals for checkups, fearing that sensitive medical information might fall into enemy hands.
Lory was surprised to find a group of doctors and healers waiting anxiously for her. Zhao Lixin was pleased to see everyone taking Lory’s condition seriously, but Lory could only sigh wearily.
She was immediately escorted into the Spirit Resonance Chamber. The device resembled a cylindrical capsule with a glass lid, designed not only to examine organs and bones but also to assess the body’s life force and mana pool.
Throughout the procedure, tension filled the room.
Lucas stood with his hands folded before his face, his expression stern and unreadable. Fredhrardt stared intently at the monitor, while Fargo remained silent, his gaze fixed on Lory. Zhao Li Xin stood beside the capsule, watching her with unconcealed worry.
A few moments later, Jay and Clift rushed into the room, slightly out of breath. Clearly having arrived in haste, they hurried toward Fargo and questioned him in hushed voices, confusion evident on their faces as they asked about Lory’s condition. Fargo merely shook his head and did not explain, saying he had no idea either.
The medical team studied the monitor in silence. Their expressions gradually turned grave as they exchanged uneasy glances and whispered among themselves.
The atmosphere in the room grew increasingly tense. Lucas felt his heart tighten; he almost couldn’t breathe, but as a King, he tried to keep his calm. "Tell me, is there something wrong with my sister?"
The medical staff hesitated. Their expressions were difficult to read, caught somewhere between disbelief and concern. Finally, the chief of the medical team stepped forward.
"Your Majesty..." He lowered his head slightly. "I request authorization to initiate Code Violet."
Silence fell; later on, Lucas’s face turned ashen. He drew a heavy breath before speaking in a firm voice, "Initiate Code Violet."
Immediately, a robotic voice echoed through the chamber: "Authorization granted. Initiating Code Violet."
The room dimmed briefly before bright white lights flooded the chamber once more.
Zhao Li Xin frowned. "What is Code Violet?" he asked Fargo.
Fargo’s expression darkened. "It’s an emergency protocol reserved for incidents involving the Lucient family," he said heavily. "The last time it was activated... was when Lucas fell into a coma."
Zhao Li Xin’s face tightened as the gravity of the situation settled over him. He turned toward Lory with growing concern.
Lory, meanwhile, raised an eyebrow and looked back at him, her expression silently asking, ’What happened?’
One of the medics opened the capsule door. With Zhao Li Xin’s help, Lory stepped out of the capsule bed and immediately sensed the tense atmosphere surrounding them. Inevitably, anxiety crept into her heart as well.
"Please, someone, bring Her Highness a seat," the chief doctor said.
As soon as he finished speaking, Zhao Li Xin immediately summoned a wooden chair complete with soft cushions from his ring and helped Lory to sit down.
After helping her settle into the chair, everyone turned to stare at the doctor intently, their heavy gazes making the poor man tremble in fright. He gulped and attempted to lighten the mood, though his shaky voice betrayed his nerves.
"Ah-haha... d-don’t be so tense..."
"What happened to my wife?" Zhao Li Xin’s eyes became so dark that it was as if ink could drip from them.
"Is Lory sick?" Lucas’s expression tightened.
"That can’t be." Jay frowned in disbelief. "With Lory’s healing ability, what illness could not be healed by Lory’s healing power?"
"Perhaps it was the enemy," Fredhardt said, pinching his chin thoughtfully, though his expression looked downright terrifying.
"That’s it!" Fargo ground his teeth. "I told you we should attack them—right here, right now!"
"I’ll prepare the soldiers; we can move tonight." Murderous intent practically dripped from Clift’s face.
Even Lory grew uneasy. "Is my condition very serious?"
The chief doctor immediately waved his hands frantically. "No, no, no! Her Highness is perfectly alright! Her Highness is not sick, she is just..."
He looked at everyone with unconcealed excitement, "Um...pregnant."
"Ha?" Lucas froze.
"Come again?" Fredhardt’s expression stiffened.
"Eh—what?" Fargo held his breath.
Jay’s face turned pale as he stuttered, "Lo—Lo—Lory is—is—is—"
Clift inhaled sharply.
"...PREGNANT?!" Lory’s mouth opens widely, it can feel an egg.
The chief doctor seemed oblivious to everyone’s reactions, perhaps because he was also overjoyed to announce this extraordinary news.
After all, it was no secret that everyone in Harland, both officials and civilians, had long been concerned about the continuation of Lucient’s lineage, as their king still had not taken a queen even after nearly a decade on the throne.
"Yes. It’s still very early, only about two and a half weeks, so the pregnancy is still fragile. Your Highness will need plenty of rest and a balanced diet." The chief doctor tried to remain professional, but the redness in his eyes had long betrayed his composure, and he wasn’t the only one; the entire medical team was also struggling to hold back their tears of joy.
Despite this, as head of the royal medical team, she managed to suppress her personal feelings and provide a thorough explanation of the dos and don’ts during pregnancy. Unfortunately, his words fell on deaf ears, as Lucas and the others were still in a state of shock.
Five minutes later, one of the medical staff members leaned toward the chief doctor and whispered in his ear.
"Sir... I think His Majesty and the others are still in shock."
"Huh?" The chief doctor looked toward Lucas, Lory, and the others, all frozen with vacant expressions.
"Um... Your Majesty?" he called cautiously.
The first to react was Lory. Her hands trembled as she slowly raised them to her stomach. "Am I really...pregnant?" she whispered, still unable to believe it.
The chief doctor’s expression was engulfed with warmth and joy, "Yes, Your Highness." He smiled warmly. "And it is twins. You are carrying twins, Princess. Congratulation"
"T - T - Twin?" Lory’s eyes widened. ℯ
"Hu...HURRAAYYY!" Fargo raised his hands above his head abruptly and cheered happily, snapping everyone out of their stupor.
"It’s... it’s twins? We’re going to have a twin," Lucas’s voice shook with excitement.
Fredhardt covered his mouth while his other hand gripped Lory’s shoulder. For perhaps the first time in his life, he found himself utterly speechless.
"I’m gonna be an uncle!" Jay pointed at himself in disbelief.
"We’re going to be uncles," Clift corrected.
Excitement erupted throughout the room, but then Jay noticed one person who hadn’t been speaking. Zhao Li Xin, the baby’s father. Jay turned toward Zhao Li Xin.
The man stood completely motionless, eyes wide, as still as a breathtakingly beautiful mannequin. Jay waved a hand in front of Zhao Li Xin to check, but he got no response. Feeling concerned, he looked toward Lory.
"Lory... I think your husband is broken," he pointed at the still Zhao Li Xin.
"Ha?" Lory raised her head to look at her husband, who was strangely quieter than usual today, and there he was, Zhao Li Xin, remaining standing still, without making a move at all.
Fargo frowned. "Don’t tell me..." He narrowed his eyes. "Did he have a heart attack?"
Lory shook her head in uncertainty. "No, I think he’s just in shock, just give him some time..."
Everyone looked at Zhao Li Xin worriedly, wondering how long he would remain in such a state.
Fargo pulled out his phone and snapped a picture. Fredhardt shot him a warning look, but Fargo merely shrugged casually.
"What?" he said innocently. "It’s for the memory."
After the initial excitement had gradually subsided, the head doctor cleared his throat and resumed his explanation.
"According to our investigation, Her Majesty’s pregnancy is most likely the cause of her fluctuations in her power. I suspect the babies may have sensed Her Highness’s stress and made them restless, thus affecting Her Majesty’s power."
He handed the tablet containing Lory’s examination results to Lucas as he explained, "Occurrences like this are not uncommon among gifted women. Some even lose their powers completely during pregnancy."
He continued, "However, due to the extraordinary power of the Lucient bloodline, we cannot determine the extent to which it may affect Her Highness’s abilities or how greatly it might impact her health. Therefore, as a precaution, it would be best for Her Highness to refrain from using her powers, at least during the first trimester."
Lory blinked. "Has this happened to my father also?" she asked.
Lucas rolled his eyes. "Father wasn’t the one who carried the baby, Lory."
A beat of silence followed.
"Oh... right." Lory scratched her cheek awkwardly. "Look, I only just got pregnant, and I’m already suffering from pregnancy brain."
Fredhardt lowered his gaze thoughtfully. "Unfortunately, we have no records of any of Lucient’s female members being pregnant."
Fargo crossed his arms before looking at Lory with a playful grin. "Then we begin the recording with Lory."
Lory raised an eyebrow. "Oh, so I’m the guinea pig, now?" she joked, feigning offense.
"Hey, this is for the good of the next generation of Lucients, right?" Fargo defended himself.
"Yeah, Lory, take one for the team," Jay chimmed in.
Everyone laughed, and the tension lingering in the room finally eased.
Shortly afterward, the chief physician and his medical staff conducted a much more thorough examination to determine Lory’s condition, which took over an hour before Lory was allowed to return to her room to rest.
Additionally, they also advised Lory to take complete bed rest for two weeks, which everyone unanimously agreed to.
