The People's God: Sacrificing Trillions to Ascend

Chapter 1019 - The Assassination Plan

  • Next Chapter

The divine war had reached a critical stage. The Death Faction was treading on thin ice. All it would take was one mistake for them to fall.

Despite exhausting every option, the Death God King still couldn’t close the gap against 15 billion Huang Shengjuns. Over time, the four Terminal Turrets’ coverage was gradually neutralized, and the Death Faction’s territory shrank to below 10%. The war would end the moment the Huang Shengjun legion’s Formation Might could reach the Death God King.

The Life God King was already celebrating. All their members had sacrificed every unit to purge the Viral Maggots. It was an enormous price, but the victory and resources it brought would let the Life Faction and War Faction rebuild.

In his joy, however, the Life God King forgot a crucial detail. Not every member of his faction was loyal. Sun Qingnian had informants embedded among them.

Through those informants, Sun Qingnian obtained the Life God King’s exact coordinates and rushed the information to the Death God King. It was bittersweet news. If they had known this earlier, their victory would have been decisive. There was little they could do with the intel now, though, when 15 billion Huang Shengjuns surrounded them.

While Xu Hai’s Eye of Wisdom could charge a blast strong enough to kill the Life God King in one hit, there was still the Life Jurisdiction’s resurrection effect to consider. One kill would only alert him. He’d just relocate, and finding him again would be nearly impossible.

The only way to end the war was for Han Wu to use the Source of Destruction to kill the Life God King for good. The problem was getting Han Wu through 15 billion Huang Shengjuns so he could reach the Life God King. Not to mention, the Life God King would detect him the moment he appeared in Life Faction territory. It was a suicide mission.

At that moment, Han Wu thought of Jia Gui, the Concealment God King. His Jurisdiction could hide Han Wu’s presence even inside enemy territory.

Han Wu left the battlefield and contacted Jia Gui. After returning from the Light Faction raid, Jia Gui had quietly rejoined the Wisdom Faction as a freelancer. Having Elina in his divine realm had put him in an excellent mood, and he had even put on some weight. Han Wu found him gulping down goji tea and ginseng wine.

Xu Hai had originally invited Jia Gui to join the divine war, but the latter had refused, arguing that he deserved a break after risking his life. Given Jia Gui’s significant contributions to the Dark Faction rescue and the Light Faction raid, Xu Hai had let it slide.

When Han Wu personally came to fetch him, however, Jia Gui didn’t dare refuse. The Death Faction was on the brink of being exterminated and needed Jia Gui’s unique talents. Han Wu practically dragged the man to the Death Faction’s command center.

The Death God King took in Jia Gui’s scrawny, shifty appearance and his pitifully weak energy signature with skeptical eyes. It seemed doubtful that the man could contribute anything meaningful, but since Han Wu vouched for him, the Death God King kept his expression politely expectant.

Jia Gui rushed forward and launched into an enthusiastic introduction. “Your Majesty! Remember me? You and I shared drinks back in the Heaven Stair Civilization!”

The Death God King frowned. He couldn’t forget a face like that if he tried, and was fairly certain they had never shared drinks. Jia Gui didn’t deserve to drink with him.

Han Wu pulled Jia Gui away and laid out the mission. “Your job is to keep me hidden. Leave everything else to me.”

Jia Gui nodded. Years of working with Han Wu had taught him that staying close to Han Wu was the safest option when in danger and the riskiest when safe. Danger was everywhere in a divine war, so sticking to Han Wu was the best choice.

“Be careful. If the mission fails, leave the battlefield,” the Death God King warned before they left. His implicit meaning was clear: If they get exposed, run. Don’t worry about him.

Han Wu understood, but the truth was, he and the Death God King were bound by the same rope. If the Death God King fell, the Life God King and his allies would just go on to target Han Wu. This mission wasn’t just for the Death Faction. It was for himself.

“Don’t worry. I’ll succeed,” Han Wu promised.

The Death God King and Xu Hai exchanged a glance, then launched a diversionary attack in the opposite direction. The instant the Death God King showed himself, the Huang Shengjun legion converged on him and unleashed their combined Formation Might.

He teleported away before the strike landed, leaving their attack to hit empty ground. The Huang Shengjun legion did not get frustrated. Every miss just meant they were one step closer to cornering him.

With the enemy’s attention on the Death God King, Han Wu sensed fewer Huang Shengjuns ahead. Jia Gui climbed onto his shoulder with the ease of someone who had repeated the action many times over. He was like a camouflage charm now.

Under the Concealment Jurisdiction’s cloaking, Han Wu suppressed his aura and launched himself toward Life Faction territory at full speed.

His breakout went completely undetected. Not a single Huang Shengjun noticed.

Even the Life God King failed to sense two enemy players racing through his territory, headed straight for him. Their goal was to kill him.
