The People's God: Sacrificing Trillions to Ascend

Chapter 1012 - That Seems a Bit Inhumane

  • Next Chapter

The battlefield between the Life and Death Factions grew more crowded by the day.

The Wisdom Faction, the Blood Coliseum, and the former Dark Faction all deployed armies of fighters on Death’s side.

Meanwhile, War Faction’s members flooded in to support Life. The Destruction Clan also entered the alliance’s upper command. Of these, the grandest entrance was undoubtedly that of the Nine-Eyed Evil God’s Huang Shengjun legion.

A billion Huang Shengjun soldiers launched a massive assault on the Wisdom Faction’s newly arrived forces. Between the individual strength of each Huang Shengjun and the combined Formation Might of a billion of them, the Wisdom Faction suffered catastrophic casualties, losing sixty percent of their forces in a single fight.

News outlets across the Divine Civilization were already predicting the Death Faction’s imminent collapse the next day.

Seeing this, the Death God King held the first joint strategy meeting at the Death Faction’s headquarters. Attendees of this meeting included the Death God King and his senior officers; the Wisdom God King and his staff; Han Wu and the Blood Coliseum’s administrators; and several former Dark Faction Major Gods. Sun Qingnian attended as an intelligence officer as well.

The most pressing issue was the Huang Shengjun legion. A single Huang Shengjun was a watered-down Microcosm life form with the same level of combat power. Their threat only scaled with their numbers. A billion Huang Shengjun releasing Formation Might together produced an area-of-effect attack rivaling that of a Mesocosm rank fighter.

The Wisdom Faction’s devastating losses made perfect sense in this light. Even the Death Faction’s forces wouldn’t have fared much better. The Death God King was concerned. As the divine war’s principal target, he had to stay hidden.

Before this, the Life God King had lacked the means to one-shot him, as he had the Golden Rune. That differed completely from a billion Huang Shengjun combining their Formation Might to cripple him.

After much deliberation, Han Wu proposed a solution. He had known about the Huang Shengjun legion longer than most. The only thing he hadn’t expected was for them to number a full billion. Regardless, the problem wasn’'t as dire as it seemed.

Han Wu had been raising his own Shengjun race inside his Microcosms. After extensive cultivation, their numbers had reached three million. While that was a pittance compared to a billion, a standalone force of three million Microcosm rank fighters could still destroy most factions ranked below the top fifty.

The Origin of Mutation had already devised a strategy for using these three million against the billion-strong enemy. The answer was viral infection.

Extensive research into the Shengjun race’s genetic makeup had allowed the Origin of Mutation to map their entire gene structure. With a few minor modifications, it could turn Shengjun individuals into carriers of a pathogen. Planting carriers that continuously released viruses into a population of one billion genetically identical hosts led to explosive results. The Viral Maggot incident from the past was the proof of concept.

When Han Wu presented the idea on the Origin of Mutation’s behalf, he was greeted with strained expressions on the others’ faces.

Even the Death God King, a being who dealt with death every day, frowned. “That seems a bit inhumane.”

The other officers nodded along. “The Huang Shengjuns are obviously produced through some kind of cloning technology. Even if they’ve been cloned as war machines, lives are lives.”

“We want to win, but we’re not that desperate,” another officer added.

They had always assumed divine wars were largely ones of attrition. The first to run out of resources lost. After hearing Han Wu’s plan, though, they realized that no divine war was unwinnable as long as their floor was as low as Han Wu’s.

Han Wu was speechless. This is a matter of survival. How have their moral standards somehow gone up? Is being burned alive or struck by lightning any better than dying from a virus?

At a loss, he glanced at Xu Hai, confident that his mentor would back him. Xu Hai’s eyes darted away, but Han Wu’s unblinking stare forced him to speak.

“Morality aside, Han Wu’s proposal would solve our current problem at its root,” the Wisdom God King relented. “The Wisdom Faction has suffered devastating losses. If we don’t settle this score, our members will be furious. Han Wu’s method would more than satisfy their desire for vengeance.”

Xu Hai’s endorsement had the others changing their minds and eventually approving the virus plan. The damage to their reputation would fall on Han Wu anyway.

Han Wu didn’t care about that. The Origin of Mutation would be handling the execution.

When it learned that its proposal had been approved, it was naturally ecstatic. It separated the three million Shengjun into two groups. One million were kept in reserve for future breeding, while the remaining two million were inoculated with various pathogen strains, cultivating dozens of diseases specifically targeting the Huang Shengjun genome.

The command center tracked the billion-strong Huang Shengjun legion’s movements. Once they confirmed the legion’s position in the T40 War Zone, the Death God King teleported Han Wu over.

Han Wu dove into the Huang Shengjun ranks, cutting through them in a rampage. The goal of this was to quietly open a gate and slowly slip the two million modified Shengjun into the enemy’s midst. He did this so subtly that the enemy never noticed.

Everything proceeded according to plan. The Huang Shengjun legion continued its unstoppable advance and claimed another stage of victory.
