The other side of Reincarnation

Part one hundred seventy six — Vados and Senna

Nero brought them back to Horizoncrest—or what remained of it—and the moment he actually took in the wreckage properly, his usual composure fractured entirely.

"What," he said, his voice gone flat, "happened here?"

Kai explained it plainly, the same way he had to everyone else.

Something dangerous settled into Nero's expression.

"And you intend to let this go?"

"Absolutely not," Kai said. "First priority's finding Ivy and Enzo. Can you locate them?"

"Yes," Nero said, already turning. "I'll find them."

 He left without another word.

Kai turned his attention to the two remaining primordial demons.

"You wanted to meet me," he said. "Here I am."

No.9 studied him with open, careful interest.

"Nero obeys you without hesitation. That tells me considerably more about your actual power than any report could."

 No.1 stepped forward, formal.

"I'd like to request a name, if you're willing to give one."

Kai considered it briefly, then nodded.

 "Vados."

The shift came instantly—aura flaring, settling, something ancient reorganizing itself around a brand-new identity.

 "And you?" Kai asked No.9.

 "Senna."

"Evolution requirements fulfilled. Select evolution path."

Kai chose both, same as always, and watched the spellwork bloom around each of them in turn.

When it finished, both Vados and Senna knelt before him, something absolute settling into their expressions.

"We swear our loyalty to you, Lord Kai," Vados said.

"Do you need anything from us?" he asked, straightening.

"Watch the Shimizu Empire," Kai said. "Vados—the eastern region. Senna—the north. I need to know the instant anything moves west."

"Understood," they said together, and left immediately.

Chloe watched the whole exchange with dry amusement.

"You're handing out names like candy."

"Be careful," Himari added, only half-joking.

 Nyxara simply shook her head.

"Are you finally starting the vessel?"

Before Nyxara finished the question, Kai had already begun.

He placed Nero's gathered materials into a specially prepared capsule—Primordial Dragon Bone, World Tree Genesis Wood, Voidsteel, Genesis Essence, the Primordial Chaos Crystal at its center—and activated a cascade of spellwork that filled the entire chamber with light.

The materials began merging, slow and deliberate, the vessel's form gradually taking shape beneath his hands.

He poured Genesis Energy into it, watching it glow steadily brighter, then fused pure Null mana directly into the structure itself.

Then, carefully, he reached into his own chest and drew out the two halves of his mother's Chaos Dragon Core—one carried since birth, the other absorbed from the barrier that had held No.8 all those years.

He placed both inside the vessel.

They merged the instant they touched, the Chaos Dragon Core restoring itself completely for the first time in over eighty years.

 Flesh began forming around it.

 Skin followed.

Then a face—familiar in ways Kai had only ever seen in fragments, in a dream, in a portrait he didn't have.

Crimson-red hair spilled outward as the body completed itself entirely.

 She remained unconscious.

 Kai waited, hardly breathing.

Then the core beat, once, for the first time.

She's actually here.

She's actually, truly back.

The heartbeat sent a wave of pure, ancient energy rippling outward across the entire world.

Nyxara felt it first, going still where she stood.

Nero, mid-search for Ivy and Enzo, stopped entirely and smiled, something settling in his chest that had nothing to do with the mission at hand.

Vados and Senna, watching quietly from their new posts inside Shimizu's own borders, felt it roll through them like a tide.

Kazuhiko, somewhere in his own citadel, closed his eyes.

So he actually did it.

Elaria Sylvarenne felt it reach even the Dynasty of Eternal Verdance, something old and half-forgotten stirring in her own ancient memory.

Vorath and Skorne both went rigid, recognition immediate and absolute.

Our sister.

Nao Shimizu simply smiled, somewhere in a room without light.

Inside the capsule, Kai looked down at his mother—whole, restored, still sleeping—and felt something in his chest finally, quietly settle after years of carrying a wound he'd never fully understood the shape of until recently.

"Welcome back, Mom," he said quietly.

 She didn't answer.

 Not yet.

 But she was here.
