The other side of Reincarnation
Part one hundred ninety — While the Gods Were Fighting
The Western Alliance had no idea that a second, quieter war was already unfolding beneath everything they could see.
While the strongest beings in the world tore through dimensions above their heads, Shimizu's remaining forces had divided into three coordinated strikes.
Ashford.
Tearmoon.
Myrath.
Each was targeted simultaneously.
The enemy was clearly betting that with the true weight of the war being fought elsewhere, the western kingdoms themselves would fall easily.
Five thousand soldiers marched on Ashford, carrying weapons recovered from the ruins of Horizoncrest.
Magical firearms.
Enhanced blades.
Anti-magic equipment.
Technology Kai had once built to defend his home, now turned against another one entirely.
They believed Ashford would break quickly.
Three thousand Ashford soldiers stood ready regardless.
Five hundred Holy Knights formed the second line behind them, while five commanders held the center of the formation.
At the head stood Sophia, one hand resting against the hilt of the Prophecy Blade.
"They're coming," she said.
"Five thousand," one commander said, swallowing hard.
"We're outnumbered," another added.
"No," Sophia replied.
She drew the Prophecy Blade.
"We're five hundred Holy Knights, each personally trained to survive against monsters."
Her gaze hardened.
"Today, we prove that training wasn't wasted."
The enemy charged.
Their weapons tore through the defensive line with terrifying ease.
Sophia recognized them instantly.
Kai's own manufacturing principles.
His technology.
His inventions.
All weaponized against people he had never intended them for.
She moved before the next shot was even fired.
The Prophecy Blade showed her exactly where it would land.
One slash.
A commander fell.
Another followed.
The other four commanders moved with her, and the Holy Knights surged forward.
The battle became hours of brutal, grinding combat.
The line nearly broke twice.
Sophia refused to let it.
"Forward."
Again.
"Forward!"
Again.
"Forward!"
Until, finally, the enemy formation cracked entirely.
The survivors fled rather than face what remained of Ashford's defense.
Sophia lowered her blade.
"We won."
"Because of you," one commander said.
Sophia shook her head.
"Because everyone fought."
At Tearmoon, Queen Mirabel watched thousands of enemy soldiers approach from atop the castle walls.
Yuki stood among the Horizoncrest elites assigned to defend the kingdom.
"How many?" Yuki asked.
"More than us," a soldier answered.
Yuki smiled.
"Then we move faster."
She vanished in a burst of light.
An instant later, she reappeared in the middle of the enemy formation, sending a soldier flying as lightning, wind, and frost intertwined around her.
The combination moved too quickly for ordinary eyes to follow.
Then a massive roar shook the battlefield.
Ace arrived.
His newly evolved Calamity Wolf form expanded, dark energy pouring from his body in waves.
"Move," he said.
He opened his jaws.
Black flame swallowed the battlefield whole.
Ace grew larger with every passing second, each step crushing the earth beneath him.
Yuki moved alongside him while the Horizoncrest elites pressed the advantage.
Mirabel raised her blade.
"TEARMOON!"
"FOR THE QUEEN!"
The invaders broke completely beneath the combined assault.
Once the dust settled, Mirabel looked toward Yuki.
"You saved my kingdom."
Yuki smiled, breathing heavily.
"We're not finished yet."
Her eyes shifted toward the wider war beyond Tearmoon's borders.
"But for now—"
She smiled.
"We won."
Myrath had almost nothing left to defend itself with after Enzo's earlier destruction.
But Elaine, before her death, had built the reconstructed kingdom into something considerably more than it appeared.
WARNING. HOSTILE PRESENCE DETECTED.
The moment the enemy crossed the border, the entire kingdom answered on its own.
Barriers rose from the earth.
Magical towers emerged from ground that, moments earlier, had appeared to be nothing more than ordinary farmland.
Thousands of magic circles activated simultaneously.
"What is this—?"
The soldier never finished the sentence.
Fire consumed the sky.
Wind became a hurricane.
Water descended in crushing torrents.
Lightning tore across the battlefield.
All four elements converged at once.
The invaders never even had time to understand what was killing them.
A final barrage of Level Eight spellwork annihilated what remained of their forces.
Myrath had defended itself without a single soldier needing to raise a blade.
The victory belonged, in no small part, to a woman who would never see it.
At the northern front, Ivy arrived expecting to find Senna still fighting.
Instead, she found the battlefield already won.
Hundreds of demons stood behind Senna in orderly ranks.
Ivy stared.
"Looks like I arrived late."
"You did," Senna replied, completely unbothered.
The east told the same story.
Himari arrived only to find Chloe's battle nearly concluded already.
Then—
Everything stopped.
The world froze.
Himari.
Senna.
Ivy.
Chloe.
Every soldier.
Every flame.
Every particle of wind.
All of it became trapped within a stillness that felt far beyond any spell they had ever recognized.
No one moved.
Nothing moved.
Somewhere beyond reality itself—
time had ceased to exist entirely.
