The Ordinary Man's Extraordinary Second Life In Another World!
Chapter 153: Imoogi Battle
There was a certain weight to the shopkeeper’s words. He had probably spent many years working with magic staffs and had come to understand them intimately.
The idea that an old well used tool could possess a soul was familiar to Qiu Nuoya as someone from Earth in which objects that had existed for a long time could acquire spirits of their own.
Qiu Nuoya was simply happy that such a staff had chosen him.
"I’ll make sure to take good care of it."
Qiu Nuoya attached the staff to the staff holder beside the inner pocket of his robe, where Mochi was tucked away. The staff settled into place as naturally as though that was exactly where it belonged, and Qiu Nuoya could not stop himself from grinning.
"Nuoya, you seem to be in an especially good mood today."
"Hehehe, can you tell? Of course you can. I’m just so happy that I can finally use this staff. I’m so excited that I can’t sit still."
When they entered the dungeon and arrived at the island that served as their save point, it did not take long for the enormous body of a Imoogi to coil around the island. Seeing it like this once again drove home just how enormous the Imoogi really was.
Qiu Nuoya could not help thinking about how they had somehow managed to eat this enormous sea serpent almost completely the last time.
Then again, Long and Mochi’s stomachs were like black holes, seemingly bottomless. Mochi in particular was utterly gluttonous. If Qiu Nuoya did not stop him, he would eat endlessly, devouring everything in sight.
Normally, Mochi was not particularly voracious. But whenever there was a feast in front of him, he would clean everything up with enough enthusiasm to make it seem like he might even eat the plates.
Maybe he’s stocking up on food. 𝘧𝓇ℯℴ𝓂
Slimes were said to be creatures that did nothing but eat and were therefore unsuitable as contracted monsters in the first place. Perhaps they really were naturally greedy when it came to food.
Qiu Nuoya wanted Mochi to eat until he was completely satisfied, so he had always given him as much food as everyone else.
Maybe even that wasn’t enough.
[ Master, another delicious looking meal is glaring at us today. Can I go? ]
"Ah, Long, wait! If you go, it’ll be over again in no time, so just watch today. If we start having trouble, then you can help us."
[ What? I’m only watching today? How boring. In that case, hurry up and go already. ]
Even though Long complained, he always listened to Qiu Nuoya without question. He really was such a good boy.
"Igor and I will go down to the beach. Viktor and Nuoya, attack and provide support from the rear. If that thing dives into the sea, there’s nothing we can do, so we’ll be counting on you then!"
With that, Igor and Warren rushed toward the beach where the Imoogi’s massive body lay sprawled out. As the two close-combat fighters, they had no choice but to get close if they wanted to fight.
Qiu Nuoya cast Holy Magic on the two of them, granting them physical and magical resistance.
There were also support and healing spells among the four elemental attributes, but when it came to supporting from the rear, Holy Magic could arguably be called the strongest. Qiu Nuoya was normally told not to use Holy Magic, but this was one of those times when he had to use it.
As though launching the first attack, Viktor raised the hand holding his staff toward the sky and summoned dark rain clouds.
"By the heavens above, let divine lightning descend. O wicked beast, receive the judgment of the skies! Lightning Spear! "
With the chant, multiple spears of light rained down from the sky, piercing the Imoogi’s enormous body one after another.
Startled by the attack, the Imoogi began thrashing violently, twisting its massive body. Taking advantage of the chaos, Igor climbed onto its body, clinging to the enormous sea serpent as he made his way upward. His target was probably the head.
Warren swung his sword at the Imoogi’s body to support Igor, but the Imoogi’s scales were so hard that his blade simply bounced off. Warren looked frustrated.
Qiu Nuoya offered a prayer to increase Warren’s physical attack power, then drew the magic staff he had only just purchased.
The Imoogi was an aquatic monster, and judging from the magic Viktor had just unleashed, its weakness was probably lightning. Lightning was a combined magic of wind and water, and since lightning based techniques themselves were intermediate magic, the spell Viktor had just cast was undoubtedly advanced magic.
Could Qiu Nuoya try it too?
No, but Igor was currently climbing over the Imoogi’s body, and Warren was nearby as well. If Qiu Nuoya launched an attack carelessly, he could end up injuring Igor or Warren too.
While Qiu Nuoya hesitated, Viktor continued firing Lightning Spears, carefully avoiding the Imoogi’s head. Igor and Viktor worked together with perfect coordination. Qiu Nuoya could not help but admire how well they worked as a team.
[ Nuoya~ I wanna do something too~ ]
Just as Qiu Nuoya was still unsure how he should move, Mochi jumped out of his robe and bounced around him.
Even if Mochi said he wanted to do something, what could Qiu Nuoya actually have him do?
I’m a mage and a tamer, yet the moment a real battle starts, I don’t even know how to move. How pathetic.
Qiu Nuoya was still inexperienced when it came to magic. He could cast powerful spells, but precisely hitting a target without accidentally striking his companions was difficult.
On the other hand, the spells he could aim with precision tended to have relatively low power, and Qiu Nuoya doubted they would be effective against the Imoogi.
Then, suddenly, an idea occurred to him.
If the attack is going to spread to everything around the target, then why not trap it somewhere?
When Qiu Nuoya asked Mochi if he could do that, Mochi said he could.
