The One King
Chapter 27: No One Kills in the Presence of This Great One
The dagger was only moments away from piercing Lilian’s neck.
There was barely enough time for anyone to react.
But in that instant—
A towering shadow suddenly appeared between Lilian and the dagger.
THUD!
The dagger plunged forward with all its force, yet the blade never reached Lilian.
Instead, it buried itself in the chest of the figure standing before her.
The servant froze.
He tried to push the dagger deeper, but the blade refused to move even an inch.
It was as though an invisible hand had firmly grasped the dagger and prevented it from penetrating any further.
Slowly, the servant raised his head.
The figure standing before him was much taller than he was.
And when the servant met his gaze, he saw a pair of glowing crimson eyes staring down at him with terrifying coldness.
Only then did everyone present realize what had happened.
That shadow—
was Azrael.
He had appeared between Lilian and the dagger at the final moment, taking the attack in her place.
The black dagger remained embedded in his chest.
Yet Azrael did not even glance at it.
His expression had not changed.
He had not taken a single step back.
There was not even the slightest trace of pain on his face.
It was as though the dagger lodged in his chest were nothing more than a piece of wood.
Then Azrael moved his hand.
Grab!
His fingers closed around the servant’s throat.
With a single motion, he lifted the man from the ground until their eyes were level.
Only then did everyone fully understand what had happened.
Azrael had moved so quickly that none of them had been able to perceive his movements. He had placed himself between the dagger and Lilian, taken the blow directly to his chest, and remained completely unaffected.
“Mother!”
Selina screamed in panic.
At the same time, Gaya cried out without thinking:
“Azrael!”
Valer rushed toward his wife.
“Lilian!”
He immediately grabbed her shoulders and examined her body, desperately searching for any injury.
“Are you all right? Did he hurt you?”
Lilian was still frozen in shock.
She had yet to comprehend that the man she had been speaking with only moments ago had taken the dagger meant for her.
Her eyes slowly turned toward Azrael.
The black dagger was still embedded in his chest.
And yet...
There was no blood.
There was no pain.
There was not even the slightest change in his expression.
As for the servant, his entire body had begun trembling violently.
He hung helplessly in the air, Azrael’s hand tightly wrapped around his throat.
The servant tried to circulate his spiritual energy, only to discover something terrifying.
His body no longer responded to him.
He could not even move a finger.
Then Azrael opened his mouth.
The voice that emerged no longer sounded human.
It was a deep, terrifying, demonic voice, filled with boundless hatred and rage.
The sound spread throughout the entire mansion.
Then it passed through its walls.
And finally, it reverberated across the entire city.
“You insignificant lower existence, the one who sent you to my presence wronged you by sending you here to kill someone, and you wronged yourself by agreeing to come.”
Azrael paused for a moment.
An eerie silence descended.
Then he continued in an even colder voice:
“So no one...”
His voice thundered once more:
“No one kills another in the presence of this great one.”
The moment his words fell—
The flames appeared.
Black flames.
They suddenly erupted across the servant’s body, devouring him from the inside and outside.
The servant’s eyes widened in terror.
“AAAAAAAH!”
A horrifying scream erupted from the depths of his soul.
He struggled and writhed violently, but Azrael’s grip remained completely unmoving.
There was no chance of escape.
The black flames began devouring his body piece by piece.
His skin.
His flesh.
His bones.
Even his spiritual energy.
It was as though the flames were not merely burning his body.
They were burning his very existence.
Everyone stood frozen.
The servants.
The guards.
Selina.
Lilian.
Even Valer, a powerful cultivator at the peak of the Immortal Ascension Realm, felt a chill run through his body.
As for Gaya, she simply stood there, staring silently at Azrael.
This was not the first time she had witnessed his terrifying side.
But seeing someone attempt to kill Lilian and then being punished so brutally before their very eyes made her realize once again that Azrael was not someone whose wrath could be provoked lightly.
His voice continued to echo throughout the city.
A voice carrying such overwhelming fury that everyone who heard it felt as though death itself were standing directly behind them.
The faces of everyone who heard that terrifying voice turned deathly pale.
Even those far away from the mansion raised their heads toward the sky, trembling.
They did not know where the voice had come from.
But they understood one thing.
A terrifying existence had appeared in Moonfall City.
Inside the dining hall, the servant’s screams continued.
His body gradually transformed into a ball of black flames.
Then the flames began shrinking.
His screams weakened.
Until only a faint whimper remained.
Then—
The flames went out.
Nothing remained in Azrael’s hand except black ashes slowly drifting through the air.
The ashes fell to the ground.
Silence descended.
A heavy, oppressive silence.
Everyone stared at Azrael.
Yet he remained standing exactly where he was, the black dagger still embedded in his chest, as though nothing had happened.
For the first time since Azrael had entered the Foyd Family estate, everyone finally understood that the man who had been sitting with them at the dinner table only moments ago...
was not merely a mysterious cultivator.
He was a terrifying existence whose wrath no one should ever dare provoke.
