The Ocean's Little Tyrant: A Mermaid Baby Conquers the 80s
Chapter 442 - 423: Archery at the Training Ground
"This isn’t a matter of strength! You’re so tiny, and those bears were huge—and there were two of them! How is that possible? It’s just impossible..."
No matter what, they refused to believe that Yun Jiao had killed the two horse bears.
No matter how you looked at it, the whole situation was just too bizarre, wasn’t it?
Yun Jiao rubbed her chin and simply added, "I have good aim."
Everyone: ...
Yun Chendong clapped his good friend on the shoulder and said just one thing.
"Do you know who’s the strongest in our family?"
His good friends shook their heads.
Yun Chendong pointed at Yun Jiao.
"If you added up everyone in our family, we still couldn’t beat Jiaojiao."
"No way, is she really as incredible as you say?"
Yun Chendong didn’t bother arguing with them anymore and just led Yun Jiao to the kitchen.
After finding Master Zhao, he handed over the bear paws. The rest of the meat was his payment.
"I just can’t wrap my head around it. Hey, sis, how about you come with us to the training grounds?"
Yun Jiao looked at them, puzzled.
"We have an archery range over here. It’s mainly for practicing our aim. Come on, show us what you’ve got."
They weren’t trying to challenge her; they were just too curious.
Yun Jiao looked at her brother.
"Go if you want to."
Yun Jiao was actually interested.
’Back home, she had always used a slingshot. This was her first time using a bow and arrow here, but they all felt too light. She had only shot three arrows in total, and both bows had snapped.’
So, she followed her big brother and his friends to the training grounds.
The archery range was simple—just an open field with some targets for practice.
"Go ahead, pick a bow you like."
The bows here were clearly much better than the ones they’d taken on the hunt; even the materials they were made from were different.
Yun Jiao chose a relatively heavy one.
Except... it was huge.
It was taller than she was.
"Okay, I believe your sister is strong now. That bow weighs sixty-six pounds, and she just picked it up with one hand. She even made it look easy."
Yun Chendong said nothing, just watched his little sister with a smile in his eyes.
"I want this one."
’With this material, it probably won’t snap.’
"Sis, that’s going to be really hard to draw."
Even they had a hard time drawing the string on that bow.
Most importantly, with arms as small as Yun Jiao’s, she wouldn’t be able to pull it back very far.
Yun Jiao lifted her small chin slightly. "It’s fine. I can draw it."
"Big Brother, can you help hold it for me?"
Yun Chendong nodded.
"Sure."
They stood about a hundred meters from the target. Yun Chendong held the bow’s body while Yun Jiao nocked an arrow and drew the string.
The moment she began to pull, Yun Chendong realized he couldn’t hold the bow steady on his own.
He called over a brawny guy to help.
After he came over, the two men struggled to hold the bow steady. As Yun Jiao drew the string, they were nearly dragged backward by the force.
"Damn, your sister’s strength is no joke."
And from the looks of it, she was still taking it easy.
A crowd had gathered around, drawn by the commotion.
Yun Jiao drew the bowstring all the way back.
The veins on the arms of Yun Chendong and the other man, who were trying to steady the bow, bulged.
"WHOOSH..."
After aiming at the target, Yun Jiao decisively let go.
With a deep thrum, the arrow was already embedded in the dead center of the target. It had pierced straight through, with more than half the arrow shaft sticking out the other side.
"Holy crap! She drew such a heavy bow, hit the bullseye, and the arrow went straight through the target!"
The burly man Yun Chendong had called over stared at Yun Jiao as if she were some kind of little monster.
"The two of us, both grown men, could barely keep it steady."
"If she had done it by herself, the result might have been even better."
Someone in the crowd clapped. "That’s amazing, little girl."
"That must be the little girl from the family residences they’ve been talking about, the one who killed the horse bears."
"I didn’t believe it before, but now I’m starting to."
As a leader was passing by, he noticed the large, bustling crowd and walked over curiously.
"What’s going on?"
"Mr. Pei, it’s like this..."
After Mr. Pei understood what had happened, he too looked in amazement at the child surrounded by the crowd.
He had heard the stories from the family residences but had figured they were exaggerated and hadn’t paid them much mind.
He never expected to meet the legendary child right here and now.
He glanced at the child. Aside from her unusual eye and hair color, her features looked somewhat mixed-race. She was very pretty and seemed like a very gentle and fragile little girl.
But who would have thought that such a tiny body concealed so much power.
His interest piqued, he walked into the circle.
"Young comrade, how about we arm-wrestle?"
Seeing him, Yun Chendong and the others immediately snapped to a military salute.
Mr. Pei waved his hand dismissively, his gaze fixed intently on Yun Jiao.
Yun Jiao blinked. "Okay."
’Why is everyone so curious about my strength?’
Still, being strong wasn’t something to be ashamed of.
They found a random table. Mr. Pei’s strength was known to be among the best in the entire military region.
But he never imagined that, against a little girl, his strength would be utterly unable to budge her small hand in the slightest!
The onlookers’ eyes went wide.
"Mr. Pei, put some muscle into it!"
"Are you blind? Can’t you see the veins popping on the back of Mr. Pei’s hand? His whole expression has changed! You think he’s not trying? It’s obvious he can’t budge the little girl’s hand an inch!"
Mr. Pei: ...
’Gee, thanks a lot,’ he thought.
After trying for a while longer, Mr. Pei gave up with a sigh. "I lose."
He knew that the girl was clearly going easy on him to let him save face. Otherwise, she could have beaten him with the slightest movement.
Yun Jiao looked at him and gave him a soft smile.
Mr. Pei’s feelings were complicated. How could someone who looked like such a soft, easy-to-bully pushover be this strong?
"Have you ever tested how much weight you can lift?"
Yun Jiao shook her head. "I don’t know."
"Amazing! With your strength and your aim, you’re truly a prime candidate for the army!"
She was just too young.
Vice Commander Lin of Sea City: Are you trying to steal our recruit?
Mr. Pei stared at Yun Jiao with a burning intensity, then patted Yun Chendong on the shoulder.
"This sister of yours, she’ll have a great future if she joins the military."
Yun Chendong smiled proudly.
Mr. Pei said, "If she ever considers joining the army in the future, have her think about us here."
Yun Jiao mumbled, "We’ll see."
’She didn’t really want to be a soldier.’
’It wasn’t that she disliked it. She’d had plenty of dealings with soldiers and found them to be a lovable and respectable bunch.’
’But she still preferred the ocean, and her future plans would probably have something to do with it.’
’Besides, after eating the Jue Pearl, her power had grown even greater, but at the same time, she had a faint premonition that her main purpose was to protect the ocean.’
After leaving behind a legend in the military district, Yun Jiao left with her big brother.
The bear paws would take a while to cook; they would probably be ready around dinnertime.
