After the Dean of Discipline understood what had happened, he still had to call their parents.

"What’s with that look on your face? I’m not calling your parents to scold them, just to discuss this matter."

The Dean of Discipline glared at Yun Xiaowu.

He was the Dean of Discipline and also Yun Xiaowu’s homeroom teacher.

"Oh, okay."

"Teacher, my sister’s coming to class with me today, okay? I’ll take her home with me after school."

"Go on, go on."

Yun Xiaowu grabbed his sister’s hand and ran to the classroom.

The desks at their school were rectangular, as were the benches, with more than enough room for three people.

Besides, Yun Jiao was small and didn’t take up much space.

Yun Xiaowu, Yun Xiaoqi, and Yun Xiao Ba were all in the same second-grade class.

Only Yun Xiaojiu was in the first grade.

So when he was left behind, the look he gave them was filled with pitiful resentment.

Yun Jiao felt like she wanted to go with Brother Nine instead.

She really couldn’t bear to see that wronged expression on Brother Nine’s face.

It wasn’t just her; the adults at home were the same way.

Only his brothers could withstand it, and even they sometimes thought he deserved a good spanking.

"Brother Nine, I’ll come to your class next period."

Hearing this, Yun Xiaojiu finally cheered up.

Class was about to start. Yun Xiaowu and his two brothers strutted proudly into the classroom with Yun Jiao, drawing everyone’s attention.

"Yun Xiaowu, I heard your parents got called to school!"

"Yun Xiaoqi, who is she?"

Yun Xiaowu draped his arm over Yun Jiao’s tiny shoulders.

"My little sister!"

He was so proud, as if he were introducing some priceless treasure.

"Whoa... Is your sister always this cute?"

She was so pretty, all fair and soft, and the dress she was wearing was especially beautiful.

Yun Jiao gave everyone a smile.

"Jiaojiao, sit with me."

Yun Xiaoqi was the first to pull Yun Jiao over.

Yun Xiaowu, who was still showing off his sister to his friends, saw this and immediately threw a fit.

"No way! Jiaojiao has to sit with me."

"I sit with Little Eight. The two of us can take care of her!"

Yun Xiaowu retorted, "Well, I sit by myself! It’s best if Jiaojiao sits with me. There’s plenty of room!"

Yun Xiaowu was the class troublemaker. He was terrible at studying but number one when it came to sleeping and goofing off in class.

As a result, he had been "honorably" moved to the front row. But since he was tall, he was at the very front of the row by the window.

And to prevent him from disturbing other students, he was given his own separate desk.

He thought having a desk to himself was pretty awesome, actually.

In any case, he didn’t feel embarrassed at all.

Yun Jiao was pulled back and forth, the light in her pretty eyes slowly fading.

"Let’s draw lots!"

She dodged her brothers’ hands, tore a page from Brother Qi’s homework, ripped it into three pieces, and, with her back to them, put a checkmark on one of them.

"Whoever draws the marked one gets to sit with me."

Yun Xiaowu said, "That’s not fair! If either of them draws it, you’ll still be sitting with both of them."

’Oh, right.’

She removed one piece.

"Two pieces, then."

Fine.

Yun Xiaowu blew on his hands. "It’s definitely going to be me!"

Yun Xiao Ba was just about to grab one when Yun Xiaoqi pushed him aside. "Let me do it. You have bad luck."

Yun Xiao Ba fumed, "You’re the one with bad luck! My luck is great!"

The twenty or so students in the classroom were all captivated by the commotion.

Most of the boys had gathered around to watch the fun.

Yun Xiaowu and Yun Xiaoqi grabbed the wads of paper at the same time.

After opening his, Yun Xiaowu jumped straight up.

"HAHAHA... I told you my luck was good!"

Yun Xiao Ba snapped at Yun Xiaoqi, "I told you *your* luck was bad!"

Yun Xiaoqi retorted, "Bullshit! This was a fluke. I always win when we play rock-paper-scissors."

The school bell rang, and Yun Xiaowu snatched Yun Jiao’s hand, pulling her toward his seat.

He was beaming. When the teacher walked in, she saw the class troublemaker grinning from ear to ear.

Next to him sat a little girl with snow-white skin who looked soft and well-behaved.

’My goodness, the two of them sitting together look like a lump of black coal next to a white Tang Yuan. You can’t help but stare.’

"Teacher, this is my sister! I already told our homeroom teacher."

The language teacher had just reached the podium when Yun Xiaowu started introducing her in a booming voice.

Yun Jiao: ...

’I regret this. I really, really regret sitting with Fifth Brother!’

She gave the language teacher an awkward smile and pinched her brother’s hand.

"Hiss..."

The language teacher gave Yun Jiao a few extra glances.

"Alright, this little student is welcome to listen in."

After the daily ritual of standing up and greeting the teacher, the language teacher told everyone to open their books.

"Today, we’re going to study a poem you’ll have to memorize, ’Viewing the Waterfall at Mount Lu’..."

Yun Xiaowu wanted to look good in front of his sister, but after searching for a while without finding the page, he turned his head and asked.

"What page is it on?"

Yun Jiao: ...

’My fifth brother really is the epitome of a slacker.’

For the first half of the class, the language teacher explained the poem and the life of Li Bai. For the second half, everyone had to start memorizing it.

Yun Jiao watched with her own eyes as her brother went from being full of energy at the beginning to propping his chin on his hand and dozing off.

She had called out to him several times, but he never managed to stay awake for more than two minutes before nodding off again.

Yun Jiao was speechless.

"Alright, now let’s have some people recite it. This poem is very simple, you know."

The language teacher called on a few students. Some recited it smoothly, while others stumbled through it, needing prompts from their deskmates.

Her Brother Qi and Brother Ba were both called on, and both of them recited it perfectly.

After a while, the language teacher, probably fed up with seeing Yun Xiaowu sleep, called on him.

The language teacher stared daggers at the still-half-asleep Yun Xiaowu.

"If you can’t recite it, you’ll copy it five times!"

Yun Xiaowu quickly looked down, trying to sneak a glance and cram at the last minute.

"Close your textbook."

Yun Xiaowu: ...

’Damn it, my brain’s a total blank. I can’t remember a single line.’

He looked at Yun Jiao with pleading eyes.

Yun Jiao rolled her eyes at him.

"Sunlight strikes the Censer Peak, creating a purple haze,"

she whispered, prompting him.

"Huh?"

"Sunlight strikes the Censer Peak, creating a purple haze."

Yun Xiaowu stammered, "Sun... Sunlight strikes that... uh... thing, making gray haze."

"HAHAHA..."

The whole class burst out laughing. Even the language teacher’s stern face was struggling to hold back a smile.

Yun Jiao covered her face.

’Aaaah!!! I regret this! I really, really regret this!’

’I can’t even pretend he’s not my brother now. There’s no escape!’

"Sis, the next line, quick!"

She gave up. "From a distance, I see the waterfall hanging like a river before me."

Yun Xiaowu turned his head. "Be quiet! All of you, shut up!"

’They’re making so much noise I can’t even hear.’

He looked at Yun Jiao eagerly, his eyes begging her to say it again.

Yun Jiao’s eyes rolled so far back they nearly touched the sky.

’This is torture.’

So she repeated it one more time.

Feeling guilty, Yun Jiao glanced at the language teacher on the podium.

Their eyes met.

Yun Jiao quickly looked away.

"You gotta see the waterfall hanging on the mountains."

Yun Jiao’s mouth twitched.

The language teacher couldn’t bear to watch anymore. "Just be quiet! Your sister prompted you, and you didn’t get a single line right!"

But she was a little surprised by Yun Jiao.

’That little girl is only five, right? She knows so many characters already? And she’s memorized the whole poem?’
