The Ocean's Little Tyrant: A Mermaid Baby Conquers the 80s
Chapter 354 - 351: Salvaging the Shipwreck 2
It’s easy to lose your balance when diving in the sea, especially in deeper water.
But it was a different story for the killer whales.
Yun Jiao nodded.
Coincidentally, the killer whales had just finished eating and happened to wander over.
They only came because they knew Yun Jiao was here.
Tang Lei watched as Yun Jiao hugged one of the killer whales and said something to it he couldn’t hear. The killer whale then swam over to him.
He was simply amazed.
’The boss’s adopted daughter really is something else.’
But even though he was curious, he was tactful enough not to ask.
Of course, not everyone was so tactful.
And right on cue, someone came over, prying with questions.
"You’ve got quite a talent there, little girl. How do you get these killer whales to listen to you? Is there a trick to it?"
Sun Yaotong shot Tang Lei a look, and Tang Lei immediately slung an arm around the man’s neck.
"Hey, buddy. That’s how she makes a living. We’d best not pry. C’mon, we’ve still got work to do."
The man gave a sheepish laugh, but his eyes kept darting back to Yun Jiao.
He knew that this was the little girl who had been the first to find the shipwreck yesterday and had even brought something up.
In his eyes, it all had to be connected to those killer whales.
’If I could learn this trick and have those killer whales find treasure for me in the sea, wouldn’t I be set for life?’
Sun Yaotong saw the man’s expression and narrowed his eyes. ’This person can’t be allowed to stay.’
His mind made up, he didn’t mention it to the Yun family, only reminding them to be careful.
Following Yun Jiao’s instructions, Tang Lei held onto the killer whale’s dorsal fin as he descended.
He didn’t even need to swim; the killer whale effortlessly carried him toward the shipwreck.
The speed was just right, not fast enough to cause him any discomfort.
After all, Yun Jiao and Yun Linhai’s group were up ahead. Aside from Yun Jiao, the other two men were also being carried by killer whales.
The other divers watched with envious eyes.
A flash of greed crossed the eyes of the man who had been pestering Yun Jiao with questions earlier.
Their speed was much slower than the killer whales’, and they had to expend far more energy. By the time they reached the shipwreck, they were already exhausted.
Yun Jiao swam around the shipwreck while Tang Lei focused on memorizing its layout and condition.
When he couldn’t hold out any longer, he made a hand signal to ascend.
Yun Jiao was picking up some of the porcelain she had previously deemed too ugly to take back. When she saw Tang Lei’s signal, she patted her killer whale and started swimming toward the surface.
On the way up, Tang Lei glanced at Yun Jiao several times.
’It’s insane. How old is this kid? Her lung capacity and stamina are just too incredible.’
Most adults can’t handle this depth, but she’s acting like it’s nothing.
Back on the boat, Tang Lei took a short rest before grabbing a pen and paper and starting to sketch.
Yun Jiao sat listlessly on a low deck near the water’s surface. Beside her was a bucket half-filled with small fish, which she tossed into the water one by one.
The killer whales below simply had to open their mouths to catch them.
To them, it was just a small snack. Yun Jiao was feeding them, and they were jumping acrobatically to catch the fish, but really, they were just playing with her.
The others, who had nothing to do, were munching on crackers and watching her with expressions of pure amazement.
That man came over again, saying with a hearty laugh, "Here, little sister, let me help you feed them."
Without waiting for her reply, he reached into the bucket, grabbed a few fish, and tossed them down.
But then something awkward happened: not a single killer whale went for his fish.
The killer whales below just stared at him as if he were an idiot.
They were having a great time playing with Jiaojiao. Who was this guy? He was completely clueless.
The man’s face was a mixture of awkwardness and indignant shame.
He said lamely, "Heh, I guess these killer whales aren’t hungry anymore."
Yun Jiao then tossed a fish far out. Several killer whales immediately leaped up to compete for it. The one that caught it swam happily back to Yun Jiao’s side, circling her and rubbing its big head against her calf.
She reached out and patted the killer whale’s large head.
"Good."
Her actions proved that the killer whales weren’t full—they just wouldn’t eat from anyone else.
The man’s expression turned even uglier.
But with another crafty look in his eyes, he started smilingly probing again, asking how she got so many killer whales to obey her.
Yun Linhe walked over. "It’s a gift our Jiaojiao has. You couldn’t learn it even if you wanted to."
The man was about to say something else, but Sun Yaotong came over and cut him off.
"Get ready, we’re going down again."
He discreetly called the man away, then instructed a trusted subordinate to have him sent off the boat today.
’The nerve of that guy.’
"Jiaojiao, don’t you worry about him."
Yun Jiao nodded. "I know. Don’t worry, Godfather."
’She was no fool.’
That afternoon, when Yun Jiao came out of the water, the man was nowhere to be seen. She figured he must have been sent away.
Sun Yaotong hadn’t been secretive about sending the man away. As a result, anyone else who might have been harboring similar ideas didn’t dare approach Yun Jiao again.
They rested at sea that night.
The boat was large enough to have sleeping quarters.
Yun Jiao shared a room with her father and her younger uncle.
The next day, after breakfast, everyone got busy again.
During breaks, whenever she was bored, Yun Jiao would either play with the killer whales or go fishing.
Her luck with the sea had always been excellent. For instance, right now—though it was already evening—she had just hooked a huge Dragon Dungeness.
As she reeled it in, her great strength was apparent; aside from the rod bending severely, she didn’t seem to be struggling much.
The rod was an imported one that Sun Yaotong had bought. It had a high weight capacity and wouldn’t break easily.
The others on the boat were drinking beer and eating barbecue. That, combined with the darkening sky, meant no one noticed the state of Yun Jiao’s fishing rod.
So, when they heard a loud THUD, everyone stared over, dumbfounded. They found themselves in a staring contest with a Dragon Dungeness that weighed over a hundred pounds and was giving them a dead-eyed glare.
They wondered if they’d had too much to drink.
’How else could that little girl, with her skinny arms and legs, possibly reel in such a massive Dragon Dungeness?!’
*Hssss*...
"Holy crap!"
Someone fell right out of their chair and rubbed their eyes vigorously.
"Is... is that a giant Dragon Dungeness?!!"
He shouted so loud his voice cracked.
Yun Jiao rubbed her wrists. ’The fish had put up quite a fight.’
’It was a shame about the rod, though. It looked like it wouldn’t survive another catch like this.’
"She... that fish..."
The grown men looked from Yun Jiao to the Dragon Dungeness still flopping resentfully on the deck, all of them too shocked to speak without stuttering.
Sun Yaotong was just as stunned. He truly had no idea Yun Jiao possessed such strength.
Not a single adult present was certain they could have reeled in a Dragon Dungeness that large.
The only ones who remained calm were Yun Linhai and Yun Linhe.
As expected of a man who had seen it all, Sun Yaotong was the first to recover, saying with a laugh:
"Jiaojiao, my dear, even your godfather is completely impressed by your skills."
Yun Jiao just offered a smile in return.
Sun Yaotong laughed heartily. "Looks like we’re in for a treat!"
His words were simply his way of telling Yun Jiao and her family that he was buying the fish from her.
Previously, when Yun Jiao had caught fish weighing ten or twenty pounds, they had all been shared, and Sun Yaotong had never failed to compensate Jiaojiao for them.
He hadn’t paid with cash, as that would have felt too impersonal. Instead, he had given Yun Jiao a Jade Token.
His family was in the jewelry business, so Sun Yaotong naturally carried things like jade with him.
The jade was of a fine, smooth, and flawless white texture. A single glance was enough to tell it was quite valuable.
Yun Jiao quite liked it.
