Chapter 283: Opening Sea Urchins and Becoming Famous

Yun Jiao quickly figured it out. ’If I don’t have the tools, I’ll just come back next time.’

She backed out of the large giant clam and patted its shell.

"Go ahead and close up. I’ll come find you next time to perform a little surgery and take that thing out of your body."

To be on the safe side, she decided to find her Fourth Senior Brother to learn how to perform surgery, suture wounds, and things like that. She also needed to ask her master for some good wound medicine.

Although her Fourth Senior Brother studied Traditional Chinese Medicine, he was better at treating external injuries, so he had also learned some Western medicine, especially when it came to making incisions and suturing wounds.

Even though her master had studied TCM since he was a child, he wasn’t old-fashioned or set in his ways. He believed Western medicine must have its own unique strengths to have developed so rapidly, so he was supportive when his fourth disciple went to study it.

A giant clam this large must have been growing here for who knows how many years. Although it couldn’t communicate, it possessed a spark of intelligence.

After Yun Jiao said goodbye to the giant clam, she memorized the area and left with the killer whales.

She cracked open a bunch more sea urchins in the ocean, and she once again ran into the Sparrowfish that had previously led her to its kelp farm to deal with them.

The little guy, a brilliant shade of orange, charged over recklessly and bumped right into Yun Jiao’s arms. It grabbed her clothes in its mouth and started pulling her in one direction, its movements surprisingly urgent.

Yun Jiao pushed away the big head of a killer whale that was nosing over like a curious toddler, and, curious herself, she followed the Sparrowfish.

"You need me to take care of sea urchins again? Has your farm been invaded by them?"

The Sparrowfish couldn’t talk; it just kept tugging her clothes, swimming forward persistently.

"Alright, alright, just lead the way. I’ll follow you."

She gave the Sparrowfish a little nudge, and the creature actually let go of her and sped up. Yun Jiao easily kept pace.

It was the same place as last time. Yun Jiao was stunned to see the reefs and kelp covered in a dense carpet of sea urchins.

’Why do these things always have to go and ruin the kelp someone worked so hard to grow?’

Without wasting any more time, Yun Jiao took out her small knife and started cracking open the sea urchins.

As soon as one was opened, the Sparrowfish was the first to charge forward and eat ferociously, as if it held a personal, fishy grudge.

The killer whales couldn’t believe it. ’This little fish is so bold, daring to compete with us for food.’

Seeing that Yun Jiao clearly had a soft spot for the little fish, the killer whales didn’t think of eating it. They just swam over and nudged it out of the way.

They weren’t full yet, after all.

The Sparrowfish circled around them for several laps, wanting to eat but feeling wronged...

Yun Jiao focused on opening the sea urchins, glancing at the Sparrowfish from time to time. She soon noticed another Sparrowfish hovering hesitantly, wanting to approach but not daring to.

It wasn’t until the bolder one swam over and nudged the other with its head that it finally came closer.

Yun Jiao let out a little "Ooh!" and pushed aside the huge face of a killer whale blocking her view.

"So you’ve found yourself a wife! No wonder you were in such a hurry."

The Sparrowfish had a wife to support now, and maybe even kids in the future. Of course it wouldn’t be happy to see the kelp it had painstakingly cultivated get eaten by these shameless sea urchins.

That’s why, after discovering Yun Jiao the little sea urchin-clearing expert, the Sparrowfish had ignored the dangerous killer whales by her side and just charged right in.

Yun Jiao opened several sea urchins for the couple, then scooped the rest into her net bag.

Maybe they caught the scent, but more and more small fish started swimming over.

These simple-minded little fish weren’t particularly afraid of the killer whales; to be precise, they just weren’t that perceptive of danger.

The killer whales wouldn’t deign to eat such tiny fish anyway. The key thing was, they didn’t taste good.

And so, more and more fish gathered around Yun Jiao. Sometimes, a whole school of small fish would jostle each other just for a bite to eat.

Looking at the small fish waiting eagerly for food, along with the shrimp and crabs that had appeared from who-knows-where, Yun Jiao suddenly felt her vision go dark.

’How long am I going to be at this?’

"How are there more and more of them? I’ve never been surrounded by this many fish before."

Her little brow was all scrunched up.

Yun Jiao didn’t know it herself, but she had already become famous in this part of the ocean, at least in the large sea region near Bailong Village.

Even non-sentient marine creatures have their own special ways of passing on information. Yun Jiao often opened sea urchins for the killer whales, sea turtles, and even Whale Sharks and Manta Rays. The occasional small fish passing by would also get a share.

And so, her reputation spread. Many of the ocean’s creatures were no longer afraid of her at all. In fact, if they ran into her, they would even go over to mooch a meal.

Of course, it would be even better if those killer whales weren’t around.

Normally, Yun Jiao was quite happy to feed the sea creatures. After all, she lived off the sea, so casually feeding the fish a little something was her way of giving back.

Although the food she was giving them also came from the sea, you couldn’t deny that sea urchins were just too rampant on the seabed.

But today...

As she kept feeding them, her mood soured. The sparkle in her bright eyes gradually dimmed, and her expression went a little numb.

Seeing more and more freeloaders arriving, Yun Jiao quickly tied the large net bag of sea urchins to a killer whale’s tail, nimbly flipped herself onto its back, and clamped her short legs.

"Go, go, go! Let’s get out of here..."

At her command, the killer whale flicked its tail and charged recklessly through the growing school of fish with Yun Jiao, quickly scattering them as it swam toward the surface.

"So many fish! It was going to kill me!"

she muttered, complaining under her breath as she lay on the killer whale’s back.

"WOOOO~ WOOOO~"

’Human, you’re the cute little one who’s amazing at opening sea urchins.’

’That’s right. Lots of fish are looking for you.’

Piecing together the killer whales’ remarks, Yun Jiao finally understood what was going on.

Yun Jiao put her small hands on her hips and tried to look fierce, though she wasn’t very intimidating. "Who said that? Which big-mouthed fish spread that rumor?!"

’When did I become the official sea urchin opener? What do you mean running into me guarantees a good meal? I just feed them when it’s convenient, that’s all!’

’How did I end up getting famous for this?’

Still, Yun Jiao knew she would probably feed them again next time. She just had to make sure to slip away before a crowd gathered.

Yun Jiao grumbled for a bit before putting the matter out of her mind. She patted the killer whale, getting ready to tell them to head back.

’Human, the shelled one is here.’

’The slow one, the fun spinning top is here.’

Yun Jiao understood instantly: ’Oh, the sea turtles.’

’Let me see if it’s Gui Yi or Turtle Two.’

She craned her little neck to look and saw that both sea turtles had arrived.

A small sea turtle was following the large one.

Actually, Turtle Two wasn’t so small anymore; it was almost the size of a washbasin.

A killer whale swam over and nudged Gui Yi from under its belly.

With a calm expression, Gui Yi did a full flip in the water, righted itself, and continued on toward Yun Jiao.

Yun Jiao clicked her tongue as she looked at its expression, which gave off a faint, dead-inside vibe.

’This guy is getting more and more zen these days.’

Fortunately, because of Yun Jiao, even though the killer whales really wanted to play, they didn’t end up using Gui Yi and Turtle Two as spinning tops. They just gave them a nudge and swam away.
