"I’m a little tired."

After slamming the king cobra on the ground, Yun Jiao put one hand on her hip and let out a light breath.

Wang Mei and Yun Xiaowu’s mouths hung open. They stared blankly at the king cobra lying motionless on the ground, looking for all the world like it was dead.

Tired?

The king cobra: ’If I’d known, I would’ve just poisoned myself!’

"Jiaojiao, is... is it dead?"

Yun Jiao picked up a stick and poked its head.

It didn’t move.

"Looks like it. Wait, let me check."

Yun Jiao squatted down and gave the king cobra one final punch, smashing its head flat.

"There. Now it’s definitely dead."

Everyone: "..."

"Can we eat this snake meat?"

She scratched her head. "It’s so big."

Wang Mei took a deep breath. "It should be fine. Let’s take it back with us."

’My Jiaojiao is even fiercer than a Guoshan Peak,’ she thought. ’Looks like all my worrying was for nothing.’

Yun Jiao carried her prize, while Wang Mei emptied the small basket on Little Eight’s back to make room for the termite mushrooms.

"Let’s go. Time to head home."

On the way down the mountain, her brothers all gathered around Yun Jiao.

Yun Xiaowu was the most excited. "Jiaojiao, when we get back, can you teach me? You looked so cool when you were fighting that Guoshan Peak!"

Yun Jiao tilted her head slightly. "I’m just strong. How am I supposed to teach you that?"

Yun Xiaowu scratched his head. "Oh, right. Your strength is natural."

’I’m so jealous.’

He squeezed his own arm. "I’ll just lift rocks when I get back. If I wasn’t born with it, I’ll just have to train until I get it."

The family was chatting and laughing as they made their way down. When they reached the halfway point, several men emerged from the woods to their side.

Wang Mei could tell at a glance that these men meant trouble. Most importantly, none of them were from the village.

"You Wang Mei?"

The men’s steps were unsteady, and the foul stench of alcohol wafted off them, noticeable even from a distance.

Carrying a basket of pig feed, Wang Mei moved to shield her children.

"Who are you? What do you want?"

"What do we want? You’ve messed with someone you shouldn’t have. We’re here today to teach you a lesson."

The name Liu Hong flashed through Wang Mei’s mind, and she gritted her teeth in anger.

’I can’t believe her lover is this bold,’ she thought, ’hiring people to come after us in broad daylight, while the adults are around.’

"Run! Go back to the village and get help!"

"Run? Where do you think you’re going? None of you are getting away today. Brother Wa said to give those kids a good thrashing."

They were all holding clubs.

Wang Mei brandished her grass-cutting sickle threateningly. "Don’t come any closer! I’ve got a sickle!"

"HAHAHA... You got the guts to use it? If you’re so tough, come on, swing it right here!"

The men snickered, completely dismissing Wang Mei’s threat.

One of them raised his wooden club and swung it at her head.

WHOOSH—

A limp, black object shot out and wrapped around the club. The mangled, savage head of a snake was suddenly right in front of the man’s face.

"HOLY SHIT!"

The shock sobered the man up instantly. He stumbled back several steps, dropping his club.

"A snake! A huge snake!"

WHOOSH! The snake flew toward another man, its head smacking right into his. He shrieked in terror.

"Fuck me, it’s a Guoshan Peak!"

The moment they heard the words "Guoshan Peak," the men fell into chaos.

"Calm the fuck down! That Guoshan Peak is dead!"

"Fuck! You little brat, you dare scare me with a snake? I’ll kill you!"

The man saw Yun Jiao holding the snake by its tail, wielding the Guoshan Peak like a whip. Already quick to anger from the alcohol, he became like an enraged wild boar, his eyes bloodshot as he lunged for her.

Yun Jiao whipped him with the snake.

SMACK—

The man’s face was momentarily distorted by the impact.

"Ew. I wonder if this snake is still edible," she muttered.

Giving the men a disgusted look, she tossed the snake aside and launched into a flying kick.

Yun Xiaowu and the others weren’t idle either. Yun Jiao had knocked the weapons from several of the men’s hands, and her brothers picked them up and started fighting back.

’We might be small, but a few of us against one of them should be fine, right?’

Not to be outdone, Wang Mei swung the large basket of pig feed off her back and slammed it into one of the men.

"Little Nine, go get help!"

Wang Mei furiously rolled up her sleeves. "You sons of bitches! If a single one of you gets away today, we’ll call it our loss!"

Seeing how formidable Yun Jiao was in a fight—a single child pinning several men to the ground and wiping the floor with them—Wang Mei’s confidence surged.

She certainly wasn’t going to be a burden. Time to fight!

The men tried to fight back, but they were drunk and unsteady on their feet. Yun Jiao knocked them to the ground one after another, as if she were herding them. Then she went down the line, slapping each of them hard across both cheeks, beating them until they saw stars.

Whenever they tried to get up, still dizzy and disoriented, Yun Xiaowu and his brothers would just poke them back down with the clubs.

"We were wrong, we were wrong! Please, little miss, spare us! We’ll never do it again!"

’This is insane,’ they thought. ’Is she even a normal kid?’

Their pleas and apologies were met with no forgiveness.

Wang Mei cursed as she hit them. "A bunch of grown men ganging up on a woman and her kids! Wrong? You’re only saying that because it hurts! For the wicked things you’ve done, I hope you have sons born without buttholes..."

"Who knows how many people you’ve bullied before! Today, we’re going to teach you a proper lesson!"

When Father Wang, Mrs. Wang, and Yun Linhe arrived with weapons and a dozen or so villagers, they were dumbfounded. They stared at the sight of Wang Mei and a few kids chasing a group of men who were scurrying around with their hands over their heads. For a moment, they couldn’t even tell who the victims were.

"Honey! Honey, are you all okay?"

Yun Linhe was stunned for only a second before rushing forward and kicking the man his wife was chasing.

"You son of a bitch! How dare you bully my wife!"

The man: "..."

’Are you fucking blind? Who’s bullying who here?!’

Although the situation was a little different than expected, it didn’t stop the people from Wang Family Village from seizing the men and holding them down.

"Who are these guys? How’d they get into our village? Anyone recognize them?"

"Village chief, it’s not that we don’t want to identify them, but... with faces that bruised and swollen, even their own mothers would need a while to recognize them. We can’t tell who they are."

"Ugh, the reek of alcohol is overwhelming. They stink. Where did these drunks come from, and why’d they go after Meizi?"

"Serves them right. A bunch of grown men trying to bully a woman and some kids. They got what they deserved."

"How did they get beaten up this badly? Their faces are swollen like pigs’ heads."

The crowd gathered around the trembling men, who were still huddled with their hands over their heads, and pointed fingers.

Although they looked pathetic, no one sympathized with them. They weren’t from Wang Family Village, yet they had come here specifically to attack a woman and her children. It was a despicable act.

Besides, everyone was protective of their own. Wang Mei was a girl who had grown up in their village. When it came to a choice between her and these outsiders, they would naturally side with one of their own.

Wang Mei straightened her hair.

"These men said we’d messed with someone we shouldn’t have and came here specifically to ambush us. Someone must have put them up to it. And to be able to guide them here without alerting the rest of you, that person must be from our village."
