Chapter 257: Discovering a Shipwreck

This time, she didn’t just circle the usual spots; she ventured much farther out.

She was ready to explore a new area!

’I’m going to see if I can find any more ambergris.’

She had come to realize that no fish she could sell was as valuable as ambergris.

Even though she was disgusted that it was a Sperm Whale’s poop, plenty of people weren’t.

Unfortunately, finding ambergris in the open ocean was extremely difficult.

Not all of a Sperm Whale’s excretions form into the hard lumps of ambergris.

Sperm Whales enjoy eating things like giant squid. The indigestible beaks are excreted and, over time, form hard lumps that become ambergris.

Furthermore, the size of ambergris was unpredictable.

The piece Yun Jiao had found before was already considered quite large.

After searching the surface for a long time without finding what she wanted, Yun Jiao grew bored. She patted the killer whale’s body and pointed down into the sea.

The killer whale understood. With a cheerful cry, it carried her down toward the seabed.

Once they reached the bottom, Yun Jiao stopped riding the killer whale and swam around freely like a fish.

Suddenly, a colossal object in the distance caught her eye.

She changed direction and led the killer whale toward it.

As she got closer, she immediately recognized it—a sunken ship!

Yun Jiao wasn’t surprised to find a shipwreck in the sea.

The ocean was merciless, and its weather was volatile.

This was especially true for large, ocean-faring vessels that could be at sea for months or even years. During that time, encountering massive typhoons, tsunamis, or hidden reefs was always a possibility.

In the face of such oceanic disasters, even ships that seemed huge to humans were utterly insignificant.

She had guessed there might be a shipwreck in the nearby waters from the golden bracelet the dolphin had brought her before.

She never expected to stumble upon one before she even started looking.

A look of delighted surprise flashed in Yun Jiao’s eyes.

She swam over to the shipwreck.

Upon closer inspection, she saw that the ship was made of wood. She had no idea how many years had passed, but most of the hull had rotted beyond recognition.

But its outline was still visible.

She also saw some scattered bones nearby.

They were human bones, with not a shred of flesh left on them. Judging by their color, they had been there for a very long time.

A few fish swam in and out of the dilapidated wreck.

Filled with curiosity and a treasure-hunting spirit, Yun Jiao began moving some of the timber aside.

After being corroded by seawater for years on end, some of the wood practically crumbled at her touch.

Other pieces were very heavy, thoroughly waterlogged.

But this was no problem for Yun Jiao.

She was just a tiny figure in front of the massive shipwreck, and it took her a good while to clear out a small corner.

Then, she found a chest.

It was a wooden chest, partially rotted. Yun Jiao easily lifted its lid.

What was revealed inside made her eyes light up.

The glittering golden objects were still dazzling in the dim depths of the sea.

So many years had passed. The wooden ship was ruined and covered in marine growth, but the gold was completely undamaged.

’Valuable, glittering, and beautiful~’

Yun Jiao dragged the chest out from where it was buried in the sandy seabed.

She glanced at the shipwreck, then at the chest in her arms.

’Maybe I should head back for now?’

’If I keep looking, who knows how much longer I’ll have to spend clearing things out.’

’Anyway, I know where the shipwreck is now. I can just come back next time.’

Having made up her mind, Yun Jiao lifted the heavy wooden chest above her head and swam cheerfully and effortlessly toward the surface.

"Let’s go. We’re heading back."

She called over the killer whale, and they went to find her family’s boat.

Meanwhile, Yun Linhai and Yun Linhe hadn’t caught any valuable fish, so they decided to find an island and see if there was anything good on it.

Unexpectedly, they actually managed to catch a few valuable giant groupers.

These fish would fetch a good price, too.

The two of them were grinning from ear to ear.

Carrying the groupers, along with three mud crabs, flower crabs, and box crabs they had found, they left the small island.

Before they even reached their boat, they saw the bodies of the killer whale group churning in the water from a distance.

"Jiaojiao’s back?"

The distance was a bit far. They could see the large bodies of the killer whales, but Yun Jiao’s small frame was completely invisible.

"Dad! Uncle!"

"It really is Jiaojiao."

Hearing Yun Jiao’s voice, the two dogs happily wagged their tails, barking as they jumped into the sea and doggy-paddled toward her.

But they got a little scared when they saw the killer whales.

They were just so big.

The two half-grown dogs looked tiny in front of them.

Yun Jiao held the wooden chest with one hand, freeing the other to pet the two dogs’ heads.

"Get on the boat."

"Dad, Uncle, look what I found."

The two men first took the chest she was holding and lifted it onto the boat.

Unexpectedly, the chest that Yun Jiao had lifted so effortlessly required all the strength the two grown men could muster just to get it aboard.

"So heavy! Jiaojiao, where did you find this chest? What’s inside?"

They didn’t open the chest, pulling Yun Jiao up onto the boat first instead.

Yun Jiao said, "Take a guess."

Yun Linhe was stroking his chin, about to guess, when a sudden wail of despair caught Yun Jiao’s attention.

Everyone on the boat looked over in that direction.

"Help! Someone, please save my husband!"

A woman’s cry for help faintly carried over from the distance.

About eight hundred meters away, a wooden boat was stopped in the water.

Yun Linhai and the others couldn’t hear the voice from that far, but Yun Jiao could.

"Dad, the people on that boat over there are screaming for help."

Hearing Yun Jiao’s words, their expressions changed instantly.

Forgetting all about guessing what was in the wooden chest, they quickly started rowing the boat in that direction.

Yun Jiao patted the side of the boat. "Give us a hand. Push the boat."

A deep cry answered.

Immediately, the nearest killer whale pushed its head against the boat and began moving it rapidly in that direction.

Yun Linhai and Yun Linhe quickly grabbed the sides of the boat to steady themselves.

In just a few minutes, they arrived.

"My husband! My husband fell into the sea! There’s a shark in there! Please, save him, I’m begging you!"

The woman was draped over the side of her boat, sobbing.

Yun Jiao said, "Dad, Uncle, you stay on the boat. I’ll go down."

"Jiaojiao, be careful."

Yun Jiao nodded and jumped straight into the sea.

She led the killer whale down into the depths and soon saw a patch of water stained red, as well as a bull shark swimming toward it.

Her speed was incredible, especially when she entered a combat state. Even in the crushing pressure of the deep sea, she moved like a swift arrow.

Just as the bull shark opened its mouth to bite the waist of the man, who was drifting semi-consciously, his fate unknown, Yun Jiao appeared at its side and kicked it away.
