The Natives of This World Are Fierce
Chapter 364 - 365: The Madman and the Cursed Witch
Chapter 364: Chapter 365: The Madman and the Cursed Witch
Inside the French Branch, the twin brothers had long since isolated the surveillance feed from Lilika’s home onto a separate screen.
Just now, they had finally observed the girl’s strange Ability once more.
The last time had been over a week ago, when Lilika had turned into a tough girl, swatting at a cockroach with a slipper at home.
At the time, the sheer efficiency of the scene had drawn a bit of the twin brothers’ attention.
Cockroaches have a tenacious Life Force and scurry quickly. Lilika failed to kill it, only managing to knock off one of its legs.
But when Lilika picked up the cockroach leg with a tissue, she smiled, as if she had already achieved victory.
The girl was seen holding the cockroach leg and saying, "You can go die now!"
Then, she began searching in the corners of the room, under the sofa, and in other such places. Just a few minutes later, she found a dead cockroach by a floor cabinet in the kitchen.
That incident had startled the twin brothers. They had read her words by reading her lips.
Today, after a mosquito bit her, they witnessed Lilika’s special Ability again.
The two immediately added new information to her file.
Ability Annotation Addendum: The medium is not limited to items related to the target. It is suspected that the user’s own bodily substances left on the target can also be effective.
The brothers defined Lilika’s Ability as something closely resembling a "Curse."
And although the Ability user’s physical condition appeared no different from an ordinary person’s, she herself was clearly aware that she possessed this power.
...
On the other side of the ocean, a distressed Lilika rushed out of her parents’ bedroom, frantically looking for some ointment to apply.
The huge, vicious mosquito had left a big welt on Lilika’s face. It was red, swollen, and very itchy.
Thankfully, summer hadn’t been over for too long, and the weather had been experiencing sudden returns to high temperatures recently, so the insect repellent was still in its usual spot.
In the bathroom, Lilika looked at her cheek in the mirror.
"Argh!!! This is a disaster! I wonder how long it’ll take for the swelling to go down. I can’t let anyone see me like this!"
Thinking of the handsome guy who had been appearing at the school gate recently, Lilika felt an inexplicable mix of anger and frustration.
The cooling ointment soothed the itching, but the swelling remained.
"Hahahaha, Lilika, your face looks like you stuck half a cherry on your left cheek! Hahahaha... I can’t, it’s too funny!!"
As she was applying the ointment and looking in the mirror, her mother passed by the bathroom and heartlessly laughed at her own daughter.
But Lilika was already too exasperated with her mother to retort. She chose to ignore her and returned to her room downstairs.
She didn’t feel like writing in her diary anymore. Instead, she hugged her phone and complained to her best friend.
After her father got home, she quickly ate dinner, not wanting to be teased by her lovey-dovey parents, and chose to go back to her room to play games.
The first thing she did when she woke up the next morning was go to the bathroom to check her face in the mirror. She found that the welt had already swollen down. Although there was still a faint red mark, it wasn’t a big deal unless someone looked very closely.
This made Lilika breathe a sigh of relief.
It wasn’t that she was particularly vain, but she wanted to avoid being laughed at by her classmates at school.
...
DONG... DONG... DONG...
At Florrie High School, the bell at the top of the main academic building rang right on time.
As a century-old institution, the bell inside the main building had been with the school for one hundred and thirteen years. Its chime, like the church bells in some old movies, had a unique, sacred quality.
Lilika’s body twitched, and she woke with a start, finding herself lying in the school’s nurse’s office, covered by a thin blanket.
"You’re awake?"
The female doctor from the nurse’s office was nearby. Hearing the movement, she came over to check on Lilika.
"Listen, this is the third time you’ve fainted from low blood sugar. I hope you girls have some sense when you diet. Don’t just skip meals. Do you know how anorexia starts? Do you know the consequences?"
The doctor warned Lilika with a stern expression. Although the girl had a balanced figure with no signs of being underweight, her complexion when she fainted and her blood sugar test both indicated it was caused by hypoglycemia.
It was common for low blood sugar to cause unsteadiness, but it was rare for someone to faint completely like Lilika. All three times, she had only slowly regained consciousness after being put on a glucose drip.
Lilika was clearly still a bit dazed.
"Do you understand, Lilika!"
"Huh? Oh, yes, I understand, Doctor. I’ll definitely eat my meals on time."
At the same time, she grumbled inwardly.
’You probably wouldn’t believe me if I told you, but I really do eat every meal, and I eat a lot, too...’
But she knew she had her secrets and didn’t want to argue with the doctor. Besides, the bell for the end of school had already rung, and she just wanted to leave the nurse’s office and go home right away.
However, it was obvious that what she’d heard wasn’t the dismissal bell, because when she hurriedly stepped out of the nurse’s office, she found that the sky outside was already dusky.
"You’ve got to be kidding me..."
"It’s a little after 7 PM right now. We called your mother after you fainted, but she said you should take a taxi home yourself after you wake up."
Lilika rolled her eyes. She was used to it.
Her mother had come to the school the first time. After a talk with Lilika back home, her dear mother didn’t show up the second time she fainted. It would be a miracle if she came for the third.
After thanking the doctor again, Lilika had no choice but to quickly jog off, or it would be completely dark soon.
There was barely anyone left on campus, save for the occasional student or teacher.
Florrie High School was old, so it was naturally surrounded by old buildings. It was fine during the day, but at night the lighting was dim. Some buildings didn’t even have lights on, and it was unclear if they were empty or abandoned, which gave Lilika a gloomy feeling.
The sky seemed to be getting dark especially quickly.
In just the short walk from the main academic building to the school gate, visibility had dropped significantly.
For the first time, Lilika complained that her school was too big, idly guessing that the land here must have been dirt cheap over a hundred years ago.
The moment she stepped out of the school gate, she froze.
’It’s him! He’s still here?’
The handsome, blond-haired guy she had even written about in her diary was leaning against a building not far from the school gate. He clearly hadn’t noticed her come out yet.
The handsome young man glanced at his watch from time to time.
Lilika knew he probably wasn’t waiting for her.
...
"Do you know why I had to come in person?"
Standing at the top of the main academic building’s clock tower, Qin Xiaoxia asked Su Su, who was beside him, with a smile.
The latter thought about it very seriously before answering.
"Because these two have run into some kind of Demon?"
"Heh, you’re half right. The main point is that I find this interesting. It’s been a while since I’ve had any entertainment. I came here to relax a bit."
Su Su was taken aback for a moment, then a smile bloomed on her face.
"So these delusional kids with main character syndrome really are everywhere!"
Hearing her Mentor’s teasing remark, Sister Su smiled and added a correction.
"Too bad it’s not that simple~ He’s actually sick. Nax, twenty-two years old, a patient with mild psychosis and delusions."
The Crystal Ball was already floating by her hand.
...
In a corner outside the school, Nax checked his watch again. It was almost 8 o’clock.
’Will that thing come out again tonight?’
He had been staking out the area ever since he discovered that thing half a month ago.
His backpack was stuffed with salt, a Cross, Holy Water, Garlic, and a pistol.
He always dressed coolly when he went out, making a point to wear a trench coat.
As for why he didn’t call the police, Nax believed they would never believe him. Rather than be treated like a lunatic again, he’d rather be a little crazy on his own terms!
