Chapter 342: Chapter 335: Hidden Weapon?

You Ye was in a daze.

"Grandpa Mo sure is quick on his feet."

You Yifeng watched for a moment without answering his son. He rubbed his forehead, a little drunk, and stared at the mess on the table.

"Clean this up, wash the dishes. I’m going to lie down for a bit. I haven’t had a drink in a long time, and I’m feeling it."

With that, You Yifeng went upstairs.

You Ye helplessly rubbed his stomach and began to clear the table. He’d eaten so much he could barely move.

He put away the leftover green onions, stacked the bowls and plates one by one in the sink, and then swept the bone fragments from the table into the trash can.

While clearing away the scraps, You Ye gathered the chopsticks. He and his dad each had a pair, but there was only a single one for Elder Mo.

Where was the other one? Was it under the table?

He crouched down to look but found no chopstick on the floor.

Perhaps because dusk was settling in, You Ye flipped on the kitchen light. He had thought he could see clearly without it, but the moment the light came on, he realized it was a world of difference. It just went to show that humans still had decent vision even in an environment of adapted darkness.

Whatever, he couldn’t find the chopstick. Maybe it had been kicked away somewhere.

It took him ten minutes to wash the dishes. Then he pushed his father’s electric scooter inside and prepared to lock the door and go upstairs. His dad probably wouldn’t be going out visiting anyone tonight anyway.

Just as he was closing the door, his gaze unintentionally swept over the top of the doorframe.

"Holy shit!!"

You Ye’s mouth hung open and his eyes widened. He moved closer to get a better look.

A gecko was pinned to the wall by a wooden chopstick through its head, its body writhing as it struggled.

The chopstick was embedded at least a third of its length into the wall. The gecko continued to twist, its tail already having dropped off, but this time, the survival tactic of shedding its tail was clearly useless.

’The chopstick Grandpa Mo threw? When did he do that? This is a fucking hidden weapon!’

As if struck by an idea, he quickly took out his phone to take a picture and record a video.

Without realizing it, You Ye found his heart was pounding.

He brought over a stool, stood on it, and tried to pull out the chopstick. But even after pulling hard twice, he couldn’t get it out. Instead, he just managed to scrape off a good bit of plaster from the wall.

He ran to the utility room, found a pair of pliers, and using them for a better grip, he was finally able to yank the chopstick out.

He started recording with his phone again, watching in the video as the gecko with its tenacious Life Force waved its tiny limbs nonstop.

’Don’t tell me Grandpa was this amazing too...’

It was hard for You Ye not to think that way, and just as hard to suppress his excitement.

He checked QQ on his phone. His class group chat had 99+ unread messages. It seemed they’d been chatting a lot after he left.

He casually uploaded the photo and video he’d just taken, adding the caption: "A tragedy that occurred at my house a few minutes ago."

Then he locked up and went upstairs.

Passing his father’s room, he’d originally intended to ask more about his grandfather, but he saw the man was already asleep on the bed.

He sighed, went over to take off his dad’s shoes, and covered him with a thin blanket.

"Ugh... that smell!"

The powerful stench of stinky feet almost made You Ye pass out.

By the time he got back to his own bed, he could finally relax. He clicked away his computer’s screensaver and saw that the group chat had once again exploded.

Big Head Child: "Holy shit, this pic and video, did you pin it there yourself or shoot it with a crossbow?"

Senior Class: "Why treat this little gecko like that? You should find a few more and roast them!"

Big Head Child: "Cut off the head, and the rest is edible!"

...

Little Taotao: "Where’s Xiaoye? Why aren’t you saying anything? Is that your family’s execution corner?"

Idiot #1: "He tried pulling it out a few times and couldn’t, then used pliers. How did that chopstick get in there?"

Husky: "Where’s the gecko’s tail? My guess is Xiaoye caught it on purpose. The tail fell off when he grabbed it, and then he cruelly pinned it to the wall."

Big Head Child: "Manual wall-pinning!"

Sword Saint: "Hahaha (smiling emoji)."

Big Head Child: "The smile is getting pervy!!!"

Little Taotao: "Where’s Xiaoye? Why’d you post and run? Was it that exciting? Get out here and explain yourself, or I’m going to call the gecko-lovers association to come condemn you, you executioner!"

...

You Ye saw dozens of messages in a short time. ’Have these guys all resurrected from their graves for the May Day holiday or what?’

He quickly sent a message to share his excitement.

Wildman: "@Little Taotao, what the hell are you talking about! Would I do something so boring? That was a friend of my grandfather’s! He used a chopstick as a thrown hidden weapon and pinned the gecko from a distance!!"

There was no response for thirty seconds after he sent the message; probably no one had seen it yet. Then, the screen was instantly flooded with replies.

Big Head Child: "HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT!! Don’t joke about this, I’m gullible!!"

Little Taotao: "Seriously, are you kidding?"

Sword Saint: "Has a fellow member of the Martial Arts world finally come to challenge my position? I long for a worthy defeat! Xiaoye, tell that man where to find me!"

You Ye cringed and picked up his phone to send a voice message.

Wildman (voice message): "I’m not kidding. Didn’t I tell you guys back in school that I learned some basic moves as a kid? Turns out my family knows more than just that; we have advanced martial arts. It’s just that my dad hates Martial Arts and let it all go to waste. Otherwise, I might be a Martial Arts Master by now."

Wildman (voice message): "And here’s the crucial part. An old senior came to visit today. He’s a friend of my late grandfather. We hadn’t been in contact for twenty years since we moved. He came this time because a friend of his is on the verge of a breakthrough in their Martial Arts and wanted to reference my family’s techniques!"

Senior Class: "..."

Little Taotao: "This is getting more and more outrageous..."

Wildman: "Don’t interrupt!"

Wildman (voice message): "We had just finished dinner when the old man flicked his hand. I didn’t pay much attention at the time, but now that I think about it, I remember him doing something like that. It was too fast, though. It wasn’t until he left and I was cleaning up that I noticed a chopstick was missing. I still didn’t think much of it, but when I went to close the door, I saw what was in that first photo, and then I recorded the video."

Wildman (voice message): "That chopstick was buried really deep in the wall. I couldn’t pull it out at all. I had to use pliers to get it. I’m seeing the old man again tomorrow, so I’ll try to figure things out. Just wait for me to come back and brag!"

Big Head Child: "I bend the knee! Please, Brother Ye, introduce me to that master! My chastity is yours for the taking!"

Sword Saint: "Holy shit, it’s not for real, is it!!"

You Ye posted another picture, this time of the cleaned chopstick placed next to the now-dead gecko.

Wildman: "See? The chopstick isn’t damaged, you can still use it! You guys think this kind of Martial Arts really exists? You know, I’m suddenly very interested in the video recordings my grandpa left behind!"

Big Head Child: "Don’t! Brother Ye, Master Ye! I’m interested too!!"

Sword Saint: "Don’t forget about your bro!!"

Big Head Child: "Weren’t you just longing for a worthy defeat?"

Sword Saint: "(shy emoji)"

You Ye chatted with his classmates for a while until the hype and his own excitement died down a bit. Lying in bed, he recalled Elder Mo’s actions and expression. There was indeed a split second where his eyes had flickered.

’Did he pull that move on purpose for me and Dad to see?’

’After all, a gecko isn’t a venomous snake; it didn’t need to be killed. He must have heard Dad’s constant belittling of Martial Arts as useless and deliberately showed off his skills for us to see.’

’Thinking about it now, the Martial Arts terms from their conversation, the stories about his grandfather’s life, the person who needed a breakthrough—everything was shrouded in mystery.’

’Could it be that behind ordinary society, there exists a world of Martial Arts?’
