Chapter 266: Chapter 262: The Lazy Worm is Really Lazy

Doudou had seen a lot of weird stuff online and knew a thing or two about biology. Plus, as an Elf, her understanding of things related to Demons was more or less the same, leading to a rather warped kind of logic.

Floating Dream Worms were like certain pure Yin Spirits. The only difference was that their state of spiritual attachment was like a dream, making them difficult to interact with. You just had to pull them out.

It was difficult for ordinary people to see and touch Yin Spirits, mainly because the physical body limited the soul’s ability to project its spiritual energy. In truth, a human’s Soul Essence was far superior to their physical body. Even so, an ordinary person passing through a Yin Spirit would still feel a certain cold sensation.

But Gou Junbao didn’t have that problem. He was suspected of being a special type of Evolver, had undergone multiple rounds of training and development to improve himself, and had been nourished by Magic Power and influenced by Magic Energy Crystals. With all these enhancements, he had long since surpassed the limits of the human body.

He could touch things of a Yin Spirit nature, including Dream Lizards, as if they were solid objects.

The reason Gou Junbao was considered a "suspected" case rather than a "confirmed" one was mainly because Qin Xiaoxia hadn’t been able to find the time to verify it.

Doudou’s rambling explanation made Qin Xiaoxia consider the possibility. It was foreseeable that if Gou Junbao really possessed such a bizarre impregnation Ability, it definitely wouldn’t be as simple as little tadpoles going for a swim.

But Gou Dandan was just an accident. Intentionally having Brother Gou create non-human offspring, even if it was just borrowing his "tadpoles," was something Gou Junbao and Xiao Lili would probably find hard to accept.

In fact, Doudou’s reminder gave Qin Xiaoxia an idea for another line of research. In any case, it seemed Gou Junbao wouldn’t be able to avoid continuously contributing some of his "essence."

"Big Bro, Big Bro? Are you listening to me? Well? Can I have one? I’ll even have the Red Demoness make me a dog leash!"

Listening to Doudou’s chirping on the other end of the line, Qin Xiaoxia, who was standing atop one of the castle’s watchtowers, just hung up. However, his expression was ambiguous as he pinched his chin with one hand, lost in thought.

Beside him, Su Su gazed at her Mentor’s pensive expression. Her left leg was bent slightly, resting against her inner right thigh, and her mind was running wild with speculation.

’My Mentor can’t be seriously planning to make Brother Gou...’

BEEP.

The line went dead.

Doudou flopped onto a rattan chair by the river, a disgruntled look on her face.

"Failed again. It would be so much fun to steal dreams with a Dream Lizard..."

A current of water flowed through the air, following the Red Demoness’s movements. She opened her mouth but said nothing, only adding silently in her mind:

’Doudou, I think your Big Bro is actually close to being convinced...’

...

Meanwhile, as noon slowly approached, Luo Yuguang and Ping Lei started to get antsy again.

"That old man isn’t going to bail on us, is he? Maybe we should give him a call?"

"I don’t know... wouldn’t that make it seem like we don’t trust him?"

Just as he said that, Ping Lei’s phone chimed with a text alert. It was from "Master Mo."

It said he was waiting for them downstairs at their dorm building.

The two of them peered down from their balcony and, sure enough, saw the old man standing below, waving up at them.

"Hey guys, don’t wait for us for lunch! We’ve gotta head out for something!"

Luo Yuguang shouted this as he and Ping Lei grabbed their phones and ran out the door.

"Hey! Can I borrow your desktop, then? My laptop’s OS is acting up!"

"Be my guest!"

The words drifted back after they were already long gone.

A moment later, the two arrived downstairs. Elder Mo nodded at them.

"Let’s go. This isn’t a good place for it. We’ll get a standard room at a nearby hotel. Tonight, we’ll find a way to draw out the thing that’s latched onto you."

What Elder Mo found a little hard to understand was that, even though he’d already planned on picking a more secluded hotel, Luo Yuguang and Ping Lei insisted they didn’t want one near the school. Before he could even suggest it, they had already picked a hotel several kilometers away.

Seeing the old man’s baffled expression, the two awkwardly explained.

The students had nicknamed all the nearby hotels the "Hookup Hotels." At night, especially on a holiday like tonight, the buildings were filled with blood-curdling screams.

They had no idea if it would affect the old man’s exorcism, but it wouldn’t look good for two guys, no matter how close they were, to get a room together at one of the "Hookup Hotels." Especially right next to campus. If they said they were just going to sleep, why not do it in their dorm? And if they said it was for an exorcism...

After all, they still had two more years of college here. Farther away and more remote was definitely better.

...

That evening, the three of them had an early dinner and waited in the room.

Although the procedure could technically be done anytime the two were asleep, Elder Mo and his group felt it would be best to stick to their normal biological clocks.

Time slipped by, and soon it was 10 PM. The old man sat cross-legged in front of the door while Luo Yuguang and Ping Lei lay in their beds, trying to sleep.

"It’s no use! I can’t sleep!"

Ping Lei’s eyes snapped open.

"Me neither... I’m too nervous. There’s no way I can sleep."

"Sigh, you’re a real pain. Let this old man give you a hand."

Elder Mo stood up and walked over. With two quick flashes of his hand, he struck the back of each of their necks, and both of them passed out instantly.

A moment later, there was a knock on the door. After it was opened, more than a dozen men and women, including Mo Qingxue, filed into the room.

Two of them were each carrying a potted plant, sent over by Cui Ying from the Shen City branch.

The group formed a circle around the two beds, staring at the two young men as if watching a peep show.

No one spoke; they simply waited.

’Do they have to fall asleep naturally? Does being knocked out not count?’

Just as that thought crossed everyone’s mind, the spiritual state of the two men on the beds changed. Those standing closest felt the fine hairs on their arms begin to prickle.

They’re here!

"Good. Everyone, get ready."

After saying this, Elder Mo took a small black cloth roll from the small of his back and unfurled it on the bed, revealing a row of fine Silver Needles.

Since Floating Dream Worms would only voluntarily leave a host upon its death, he would simply accommodate their nature.

"My apologies, young men. If you would be so kind as to die for me!"

Pinching four Silver Needles in each hand, a trace of purple Magic Power shimmering on them, the old man moved like lightning. With a few swift motions, he locked the heart and lungs of both Luo Yuguang and Ping Lei by forming a four-pillared seal on their chests.

The eight Silver Needles trembled faintly, pulsing with waves of Magic Power.

Luo Yuguang and Ping Lei stopped breathing. Their faces instantly turned deathly pale, and after a final twitch of their limbs, they fell silent.

In that same instant, goosebumps erupted on everyone present.

Two red shadows shimmered into existence, rising from the two "corpses." They looked exactly like two giant, blood-red leeches.

The bodies of the worms were as large as a bed—far bigger than the two hosts they had been attached to.

"This is what they call a *small* Floating Dream Worm!?"

"They’re trying to escape! Block them!"

With a roar, the old man was the first to move, flashing to the window as his vital energy flared, radiating a wave of heat.

Two of the others immediately scooped up Luo Yuguang and Ping Lei, yanked out the Silver Needles, and kicked out with one foot each.

With a BANG and a BANG, the two beds flipped upright against the wall, clearing a large space in the middle of the room.

Most known Yin Spirits couldn’t pass directly through walls. While Floating Dream Worms weren’t technically Yin Spirits and there was little data on them, it seemed the same principle applied.

The dozen or so people surrounded the two large, red worms, which were now curled into floating balls. They used their Spiritual Perception to seal off the entire room, isolating the worms from the mental fluctuations of any other dreamers in the outside world.

But beyond that, they didn’t dare to make any rash moves just yet.

Claws, fists, and even swords were at the ready. At the slightest sign of movement, the dozen or so people would strike to kill.

There was no choice. The "Devouring Pocket Flowers" in the two pots were only the size of footballs. Even if they could swell to ten times their size, they still wouldn’t be able to swallow one of these worms.

One minute passed, then two. The old man, who had been ready to give the order to kill, held back. He and the others simply waited, confused.

"Why aren’t they reacting? What are they doing?"

"A defensive posture, maybe?"

Mo Qingxue’s eye twitched as a sudden thought occurred to her.

"Don’t tell me they’re waiting to be ’floated’?"

The air in the room went still.

"They can’t seriously be *that* lazy, can they? They’re facing imminent doom..."

"Literally too lazy to move, even to save their own lives..."

Everyone suddenly seemed to understand why Floating Dream Worms were so rare.

And so, the two worms were jostled out the door, with everyone keeping a close eye on them to prevent them from floating away like a pair of balloons, and then loaded onto a truck like cargo.

Doudou was a bit dumbfounded when a box truck drove off a highway outside town and entered the headquarters’ Secret Realm.

It was only when the cargo was unloaded that she realized they were actually two Dream Lizards.

But their size was completely different from what the Red Demoness had described. Hadn’t she said they were usually only about the size of a washbasin?

Once inside the Secret Realm, there was no fear of the worms escaping.
