Chapter 263: Chapter 259: The Untouchable Demon

Given his age, Elder Mo possessed an excellent, calm disposition. He wasn’t impatient like the younger generation, and of course, he didn’t have the worries of a job.

Frankly, with Dawn’s current influence, it would be a simple matter to find new jobs for all these people even if they were all fired.

But waiting around like this wasn’t a viable solution. With his eyes slightly closed, Elder Mo considered whether it was time to break the deadlock and abandon their passive stakeout.

There were two possibilities. The first was that the Demon hadn’t appeared yet. After all, the warning was prophetic and had come in advance. The second was that the Demon had arrived long ago but had likely spotted the dozen or so "Gate Gods" and was now too scared to show itself.

If it was the latter, the situation could be quite dire. It was possible that people elsewhere had already fallen victim.

To put it bluntly, it wasn’t as if Luo Yuguang and Ping Lei were the Demon’s mortal enemies, nor did they seem to possess any special allure. There was no reason for the Demon to fixate on them. It would be perfectly normal for it to switch targets upon sensing danger—the one thing Earth wasn’t short on was people.

As the saying goes, with age comes wisdom. Having experienced so much in his long life, Elder Mo quickly devised a plan.

Hadn’t the Witch given the two of them a Protective Talisman each? Perhaps those two items were what had disrupted the fated outcome. He planned to let everything "return to its original state."

Past two o’clock that morning, most students in the dorms were asleep, save for a few night owls scrolling on their phones.

A slender figure leaped nimbly from the rooftop. With a few light taps of her feet and secure handholds, she landed outside a dorm on the 4th floor in just a couple of moves.

Carefully avoiding the men’s underwear and a string of socks hung out to dry, Mo Qingxue edged along the wall with a disgusted look on her face. She gently slid the balcony door open with one finger and slipped inside the dorm.

The four occupants were breathing evenly, except for Luo Yuguang and Ping Lei. Their breathing was ragged—they were probably having nightmares.

She quietly approached their beds, intending to reach out and remove their Protective Talismans.

The talismans themselves didn’t contain much Magic Power. They were meant to help the people from the Celestial Traveler’s Hall with Perception and location. Relying on this minuscule amount of Magic Power—most of which had already dissipated—to fend off anything was unrealistic.

However, the closer she got to the two men, the hairs on her arms began to stand on end. Even the faint purple Magic Power within her arms started to churn and burn.

’What’s going on?’

She instinctively felt that something was wrong. Halting her hand, she scanned the room with a grave expression, extending her senses with her Magic Power. She even opened the dorm room door and peeked quietly down the hallway in both directions, but she found nothing out of the ordinary.

’I’ll try again!’

This time, Mo Qingxue didn’t choose Ping Lei, switching to Luo Yuguang instead.

She quietly reached toward his chest with her left hand.

SWISH~

The hairs on her left arm instantly shot straight up. The Magic Power in her arm surged outward, spreading from the tip of her middle finger—the part of her closest to Luo Yuguang’s body—and suffusing her entire arm.

Her arm felt a faint tremor, and the amount of her Magic Power seemed to decrease ever so slightly.

TAP. TAP. With two silent touches of her toes to the floor, Mo Qingxue leaped back to the balcony, a look of alarm on her face. She no longer cared that her hair brushed against some boy’s underwear and socks.

Slowing her breathing, she stared at the two men inside the dorm as if facing a formidable foe.

She drew the Short Sword strapped to the outside of her right thigh and gave the spine of the blade a light flick. The sound was soft and crisp, not nearly loud enough to wake anyone.

On the rooftop, the dozen or so people resting with their eyes closed all snapped them open at once.

"Qingxue’s signal! Xiaolong, Xiaowu, Xiaozhao, with me!"

SWISH SWISH SWISH SWISH~

Four shadowy figures leaped down, hugging the wall. They moved nimbly, using the balcony railings on each floor to break their descent.

Within seconds, four more people landed on the balcony of Room 509, led by Elder Mo.

After all, Elder Mo’s body wasn’t that of a young man. He had paid a great price to merely bridge the gap with a youthful physique, and it hadn’t been long enough for him to pull ahead. However, his mastery of self-cultivation was perfect, granting him powerful control and endurance. Plus, the Magic Power Qin Xiaoxia had embedded within him was far greater than that of an ordinary person.

"Grandfather, there’s something strange about Luo Yuguang and Ping Lei. I suspect it’s not that the Demon hasn’t shown up—it’s that it’s already here and we haven’t detected it!"

Mo Qingxue quickly explained the bizarre situation to Elder Mo, causing the brows of all four newcomers to furrow in concentration.

"Interesting. The rest of you, stay here and don’t move. I’m going to take a look."

With that, Elder Mo entered the dorm, his posture relaxed yet wary. He ignored the other two sleeping students, walking straight to the two beds at the far end of the room before stopping.

He extended his right hand, placed his left palm on his right arm, and reached toward Ping Lei.

The Magic Power that Master Sage had embedded in his body began to circulate spontaneously. A portion of it even overflowed, forming a faint protective barrier over his arm.

’This is definitely not right. Could it be that Luo Yuguang and Ping Lei are two disguised Demons?’

’Impossible! They could never deceive the Witch and Master Sage!’

With this in mind, Elder Mo extended only his index finger and gently tapped the Jade Talisman on Ping Lei’s chest.

The moment he touched it, the Magic Power from Su Su on the talisman fluctuated briefly. For a moment, it was as if Elder Mo was experiencing Ping Lei’s senses himself. A flash of red seared his vision for a second before immediately vanishing.

The Magic Power on the Jade Talisman was completely spent. With a grave expression, Elder Mo moved to Luo Yuguang’s side to try again, only to find that the Magic Power on his Jade Talisman was also gone. Apparently, that one touch had consumed the power from both talismans.

On the balcony, the group watched as Elder Mo touched the two men and then slowly backed out.

"Grandfather, what’s the situation?"

Elder Mo himself wasn’t sure what to make of it.

"It should be impossible for them to be Demons, but by using the Witch’s residual Magic Power just now, I definitely saw a bizarre flash of red. I have no idea what it was!"

Watching the two men in the room, now drenched in a cold sweat, the five people on the balcony remained silent.

The girl Elder Mo had called Xiaowu suddenly had an idea and tentatively offered a hypothesis.

"Could it be that the two of them are bewitched, and the real Demon isn’t actually here?"

"We can’t rule out that possibility. Does the Association have an expert in this field?"

Hearing her grandfather’s question, Mo Qingxue’s mind immediately went to a figure so beautiful that even other women were captivated by her.

"We do!"

...

At two or three in the morning, the energetic Mo Shaoge and Cui Ying still hadn’t stopped. They were still panting and going at it.

The large bed in the hotel room rocked continuously with the force of their movements.

"The little conch shell goes toot-toot-toot, the seagull..."

Cui Ying’s cell phone chose that exact moment to ring, causing Mo Shaoge to surrender on the spot.

"Hmph..." "Ngh..."

Locked in Cui Ying’s tight embrace, Mo Shaoge reached over and grabbed the phone for her, only to see that the caller was his own sister.

He showed the screen to Cui Ying, signaling that it was her future sister-in-law, and mouthed that he wouldn’t make a sound before answering the call and holding the phone to her ear.

"Hello, Qingxue? What’s happened?"

Cui Ying’s tone was perfectly level, as if the only thing currently pressed up against her was a blanket.

On the dormitory roof, Mo Qingxue quickly explained the situation to her sister-in-law; after all, she had no way of contacting the Red Demoness herself.

The mission was a high priority, so after hearing the explanation, Cui Ying didn’t waste any time. She said she would contact the Association’s higher-ups immediately.

Barely five minutes later, the group from the Celestial Traveler’s Hall waiting on the roof heard Mo Qingxue’s phone vibrate.

In the Qingzhen Secret Place, a bewitching, red-haired figure stretched her limbs as she lay in the flowing water. Her crimson lips parted with a smile as she breathed three words into the phone at her ear.

"It’s a dream~"

"Hehehehe... Shall I teach you how to catch it?~"
