The Natives of This World Are Fierce
Chapter 239 - 236: Dawn’s Fighting Style
Chapter 239: Chapter 236: Dawn’s Fighting Style
At a once-unobstructed highway intersection, several traffic police, their assistants, and a dozen soldiers sprang into action.
Several large roadblocks were quickly set up, and a few police cars were parked sideways to block the intersection.
A silver sedan with three occupants was following its GPS, on its way to a reserved hotel.
"At the upcoming intersection, turn right. Turn right."
Following the electronic voice’s prompt, they had just turned off one road and were about to turn right when they abruptly noticed the roadblocks ahead.
The car was forced to stop. A traffic officer approached, walking up to the rolled-down driver’s side window.
He took out a breathalyzer and had the driver blow into it. Only after confirming the driver hadn’t been drinking did he explain the situation.
"The road ahead is blocked. Please find an alternate route."
The driver glanced around. He counted seven or eight officers, including the assistants. In the distance, near buildings and in the shadows, it looked like more people were standing guard. The poor night visibility made it impossible to tell if they were Soldiers; he just assumed they were other law enforcement personnel.
"Alright, Officer. We’ll get going. By the way, what’s going on up there?"
With no other choice, they had to get back on the road and let the GPS recalculate the route.
"Recalculating route..."
A few minutes later, as they tried to turn onto another street, they found that it, too, was blocked off.
"Holy shit, again? Turn! Turn!"
This time, they didn’t even try to approach, immediately veering into a side street.
The people in the car thought it was strange. Perhaps it was because of the late hour, or maybe it was the recent radio broadcasts and other official and unofficial notices, but there were very few cars on the road tonight, yet a surprising number of police checkpoints.
It wasn’t just these two encounters. They had seen several other checkpoints earlier, but those hadn’t been blocking their specific path.
They had driven in from out of town, so they were unfamiliar with the situation.
"Is Kyoto City this strict about checking for drunk driving now?"
"They’re just blocking the road. The drunk driving check was probably just a side task!"
The driver quipped casually as he tried to replan the GPS route.
"What the fuck? Don’t any of the traffic cops in Kyoto City sleep at night?"
Luckily, their hotel wasn’t inside the cordoned-off area. Their third route was clear, and they finally arrived without further incident.
Had they been any unluckier, they would have found themselves driving in a massive circle, completely unable to reach their destination.
What they didn’t know was that compared to the unfortunate victims and the Soldiers suffering casualties in the ongoing battle, their pointless detour was nothing.
In the hotel lobby, the three of them, having parked the car, were now checking in. The bright lights of the lobby were a welcome relief to the road-weary travelers.
The sparse traffic and endless roadblocks had given them a strange feeling, a sense that they needed to find shelter for the night and get off the streets immediately.
"There are so few cars on the road in Kyoto City tonight."
The driver, Jia Dong, chatted with the front desk clerk while paying the deposit.
"You’re from out of town, so you might not know. They say there have been vampire bats around at night recently, spreading diseases. No one dares to sleep with their windows open."
The young woman entering their information explained with a smile.
The male receptionist next to her smiled mysteriously.
"I don’t think it’s that simple. I heard some vicious criminal gangs have shown up in Kyoto City. My cousin’s a cop, and he hasn’t been home in days. He’s been..."
"Help!! Help!!!"
Before the receptionist could finish, his words were cut off by screams from outside.
The five people inside looked outside curiously, none of them noticing that the screams were too clear to be coming from behind the closed glass doors.
The hotel was on a corner, and its brightly lit lobby and the five people inside stood out starkly against the darkness.
BANG!
A figure practically slammed through the glass side door, stumbling inside and collapsing onto the front desk.
The girl who stumbled in was pale, with delicate features. She wore an oversized T-shirt that hung to her thighs like a dress, revealing a pair of shapely legs. It seemed she wasn’t wearing a bra, as her nipples were clearly visible through the fabric.
But the most eye-catching thing was the blood. The fabric on her left shoulder was completely soaked in it, and the area above her right knee was covered in gore. A horrific wound was visible, still pumping out blood.
"Miss, you’re covered in blood!"
Jia Dong and his friend moved to help the girl, and the female receptionist reached for the phone to call for an ambulance and the police. But as she did, a hand covered in bloody scratches pressed down on hers, stopping her.
"No need to call the police. You can save me."
The girl stared intently at the tender hand she was pressing down on, and licked her lips.
Everyone froze at her words. ’An injury like that needs a hospital,’ they thought. ’And how could they not call the police when she’s been hurt this badly?’
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.
The sound of knuckles rapping on the glass door suddenly rang out at the entrance.
"Heh. You didn’t think you’d actually gotten away, did you, Miss Spirit Mother?"
The voice was actually speaking English, but it carried a peculiar vibration, allowing everyone present to understand its meaning, so much so that they didn’t even register the language being spoken.
A select few Dawn Members on joint operations have a sliver of Magic Power attached to their vocal cords by Qin Xiaoxia, allowing for resonant communication.
Hearing the voice, everyone inside turned toward the door. A tall man stood at the entrance, dressed in a form-fitting gray outfit. It looked like a more compact version of the combat suits from Assassin’s Creed, only without the hood, flashy cape, or other superfluous decorations.
The man had yellowish hair. He was smiling, but strangely, his facial features remained unclear.
Jia Dong and the others noticed that the woman at the counter seemed terrified of this man; her body was trembling uncontrollably.
Blaise was smiling, but his mind was racing.
’Five civilians. The Demon won’t care about collateral damage.’
"Escaping from Unit 34 shows you’ve got some skill..."
As he spoke, his eyes were fixed on the woman’s shoulder and the wound on her right leg. ’The bone’s probably been damaged,’ he thought. ’That should slow her down a little.’
"How about this? I’ll let you run one more time. Just for my own amusement, what do you say..."
But before the word "say" had even left his lips, Blaise stomped hard on the floor, launching himself forward. To the average person, he was just a blur, appearing instantly in front of the woman.
For one brief moment, it felt to the people in the lobby as if everything was happening in slow motion.
The woman was clearly trying to flee, but when she pushed off, her right leg buckled. In the next instant, the tall man had seemingly teleported in front of her, his powerful left knee whistling through the air as it slammed into her abdomen.
BOOM!
The onlookers felt the entire floor shake, and the two receptionists felt as if the counter was about to tip over.
"AH!!!!"
Someone screamed, but immediately covered their mouth.
The poor, injured woman had been viciously kneed in the stomach by the tall man. The force of the blow smashed her into the marble-faced counter, embedding her body partway into it as she bent at an unnatural angle.
Fresh blood poured from the shattered surface.
Blaise’s powerful presence had stunned everyone—or more accurately, terrified them.
The five civilians in the lobby stared wide-eyed, not daring to even breathe. Though their hands were all on their phones, none of them dared to call the police. The scene felt utterly surreal.
But the next moment, their backs were suddenly drenched in cold sweat.
Blaise pinned down the still-flailing Hua Rong and grabbed her by the neck. Power surged through him, and the Magic Power in his arm grew searing hot, the burning sensation extending into Hua Rong’s body.
An instant before her scream could erupt...
CRACK. Everything went silent.
Blaise let out a sigh of relief. ’No civilian casualties.’ Then he glanced at the five horrified, ghost-white faces staring at him, and his spirits immediately sank.
THUMP THUMP THUMP...
A burst of rapid footsteps sounded from outside, and a squad of fully armed Soldiers sprinted to the hotel entrance.
Blaise nodded to them, removed his knee, and walked out, letting Hua Rong’s corpse slide to the floor.
An Officer came forward to confirm, then a few Soldiers carried the corpse away on a stretcher.
"Command Center, target Hua Rong has been eliminated, corpse is being transported."
The Officer looked at the 5 civilians.
"We’re with the regular army, please don’t be alarmed. This was an operation to apprehend a dangerous criminal. The relevant departments will be here shortly to clean up and discuss compensation... uh..."
After glancing at the massive hole in the marble-faced counter, the Officer decided it was best to just keep his mouth shut.
...
VRRMM... VRRMM...
Amid the roar of the engine, Otto and the Soldiers in his vehicle raced toward the target’s location.
Just moments ago, all four satellite tracking signals had vanished. This meant they had lost the positions of the four Spirit Mothers and could only charge toward the last known location.
A few hundred meters from their destination, Otto’s brow suddenly furrowed. A moment later, his lips peeled back into a grin, revealing a set of gleaming white teeth.
"Everyone, prepare for contact! These bastards actually know how to set an ambush!"
