Chapter 202: Chapter 199: Gou Junbao’s Timely Rain

It was as if he had emptied every last bit of laughter from his belly. Half a minute later, Qin Xiaoxia finally regained his composure.

He took a deep breath and, before the food arrived, began to clear up everyone’s confusion.

"First, the male protagonist of our story, the man with the unfortunate love life, Brother Gou—Gou Junbao—is absolutely, one hundred percent human."

’Isn’t that obvious?’ Everyone present, aside from Monkey, had met him before. They all waited for Qin Xiaoxia to continue.

"Second, the waitress from a moment ago is also a completely normal human."

Hearing this, Huang Jiutian thought for a moment before asking.

"So you’re saying the egg in Brother Gou’s ex-girlfriend’s stomach is because she was parasitized?"

Qin Xiaoxia smiled and shook his head.

At this, Su Su’s eyes went wide, and she covered her mouth.

"Mentor, don’t tell me... a Demon did... *that* to the girl?!"

She didn’t finish her sentence, but everyone present understood what she meant, and that included Monkey and Doudou.

A drop of cold sweat beaded on Qin Xiaoxia’s forehead. He stared at Su Su intently and hurried to set the record straight before everyone’s thoughts could stray even further off track.

"No... You all need to get your minds out of the gutter."

He had originally planned to give them a lesson on reproductive isolation, but then he remembered the specifics of the egg and couldn’t bring himself to say it.

"Ahem, didn’t I say this was good news for Brother Gou? If it had nothing to do with him, what would he be happy about? We’re talking about an ex-girlfriend; even an ex-wife’s business wouldn’t be his concern, right?"

’That’s true,’ they thought. ’They broke up so long ago.’ But before any stranger ideas could take root, Qin Xiaoxia quickly revealed the answer to the riddle he’d been teasing them with.

"The soul elements I can sense from that egg are very similar to Brother Gou’s, but not completely identical. Do you see what I’m getting at?"

Aside from the Red Demoness and Doudou, who seemed to have figured something out, the others’ scattered thoughts also converged on an absurd possibility.

As their Mentor, Qin Xiaoxia felt this was a good opportunity to share some fringe knowledge.

"Jiutian and Monkey might not know what soul elements are, but Su Su should be clear on it, right?"

"Mhm!"

Su Su eagerly seized the chance to show what she knew.

"Soul elements are an important component of a soul, but they’re not the same concept as the soul itself."

"Correct."

Qin Xiaoxia nodded at her, then picked up where she left off with a smile.

"And among blood relatives, especially immediate family, the soul elements tend to be similar. This is usually easier to perceive when the offspring is still young. As they grow older, their souls develop their own individuality, making the similarity harder to detect."

"So, how does a parent pass on soul elements to their child? Let’s set aside the spiritual forces for a moment. In more material terms, it involves genetic factors. Now you get it, right?"

Hearing this, Jiutian and Su Su were dumbfounded. The Red Demoness, however, just kept chuckling to herself.

Doudou’s jaw dropped wide enough to fit a roast chicken, and a vulgar exclamation that completely betrayed her cute appearance burst out.

"HOLY SHIT! Gou Junbao knocked up a Demon egg!!"

Obviously, the egg had been inside Gou Junbao’s ex-girlfriend’s body for a long time. It was even possible it had been there ever since she arrived in this world.

Besides, the egg couldn’t possibly have been so big back then, or Qin Xiaoxia would have definitely noticed it when he met her. That meant it had only grown to its current size after the breakup.

It was because the egg had been minuscule, had no Magic Power signature, and hadn’t even generated a soul yet that Qin Xiaoxia failed to notice it.

"So, something like an ovum, or a miniature egg, teleported into the girl’s stomach? That’s just absurd!"

Huang Jiutian found it hard to believe.

"Brother Gou is a total savage..."

Qin Xiaoxia shrugged.

"I have no idea about that. Maybe Brother Gou is an Evolver with an insemination Ability!"

"PFFT—"

Su Su couldn’t help but laugh. Then, being a girl, she thought of a serious problem.

"So what’s going to happen to the egg? It’s Brother Gou’s child, isn’t it... And that waitress is sort of its other mother, right...?"

Leaving it in the girl’s stomach might affect her. It would be dangerous if it turned out to be something like the creature from *Alien*.

But would removing it directly cause the egg to die? It was, after all, the "offspring of an acquaintance."

Everyone else had also thought of the questions Su Su raised, but none of them could come to a conclusion.

And so, the ball was kicked back into Qin Xiaoxia’s court.

Qin Xiaoxia, however, didn’t seem too pressured.

"This sort of thing is best left for the kid’s father and mother to decide. For now, let’s eat. There’s no rush."

As he spoke, the cold appetizers began to arrive.

The meal began in a strange yet amusing atmosphere, but as more and more dishes were brought out, it quickly devolved into a savage battle for food.

The ’big-move’ faction, led by Doudou and Monkey, were the most ferocious eaters, but the Red Demoness, with her elegant yet terrifyingly fast eating style, was not to be underestimated.

In comparison, Qin Xiaoxia, Su Su, and Huang Jiutian ate in a relatively more civilized manner.

They called the waitress over several more times during the meal, ordering so much that they had just about gone through three rounds of the entire menu.

...

When Xiao Lili stepped out of the private room again, she couldn’t help but pat her chest.

More than the customers’ appetites, it was the way they looked at her that made her uncomfortable. The sallow-faced customer and the small child, in particular, kept staring impolitely at her lower abdomen.

And yet, it didn’t feel like a lecherous gaze. In any case, it made her feel like she was on pins and needles.

Every time she went in to take an order, the smile she was maintaining would freeze on her face. The moment they were done, she would practically flee the room.

Seeing Xiao Lili come out, two other waitresses in the hallway couldn’t resist walking up to her to gossip.

"Lili, was that the sixth time?"

"Mhm... It was the sixth time."

"Did they finish everything in there? I saw the busser; all the plates they wheeled out were empty!"

Xiao Lili’s expression was strange. She recalled how, at the very beginning, the person ordering had said he wanted three rounds of every dish on the menu.

Even though they’d only ordered some of the dishes since then, with this being the sixth time, she figured they really had ordered nearly every dish three times over. Some of the larger, tastier dishes seemed to have been ordered even more than that.

Now she was starting to think that the man hadn’t been joking at the beginning.

"They’re probably all competitive eaters, out for a get-together..."

That was the only answer Xiao Lili could give.

"Even for competitive eaters, aren’t they afraid they’ll burst..."

"To eat like that... They must be loaded!"

The two girls whispered to each other.

It wasn’t just them; even the kitchen knew that private room 306 was hosting a table of culinary titans.

...

After the sixth round of dishes was served and the plates were cleared away.

Everyone leaned back in their chairs, stretching comfortably.

"Ah, that was satisfying. Time to give Brother Gou the good news."

Qin Xiaoxia muttered to himself and pulled out his phone. Everyone else at the table wore expressions of keen interest.

The phone had only rung twice before it was answered.

Before he could even say a word, Gou Junbao’s panicked voice came rushing through the line like a storm.

"What! You’re in the hospital? Really? Where? Oh, oh, oh, of course, of course, I’ll be there right away. Yes, yes, yes, don’t worry, don’t worry, you can count on me. Okay, I won’t say more, I’m catching the next flight right now!"

"BEEP BEEP BEEP..."

The line went dead.

Inside the private room, everyone was completely baffled. ’What was that all about?’

Then, one by one, they started to realize what had just happened.

...

「Over a thousand kilometers away, in a café in Shencheng City.」

Gou Junbao put down his phone, his face beaded with sweat.

"Um, ma’am, you and Cuicui can stay a while longer. My buddy’s gotten into trouble, and I have to go. I’m so, so sorry!"

On the sofa opposite him sat a mother and daughter whose combined weight probably exceeded 400 pounds.

"So, when will you be back? Our family quite likes you. You and Cuicui should hurry up and make things official."

The young woman named Cuicui gave Gou Junbao an apologetic smile.

"Brother Gou, if you have something urgent, you should go."

"Ma’am, Cuicui, I really don’t have the heart for this right now. My buddy is waiting for me, and it’s urgent. He’s an orphan with no one else to rely on, so I’m really worried. I can’t say more, I have to go."

"Waiter, the check!"

...

A few minutes later, after paying the bill, Gou Junbao darted out of the "Perfect Union Café," hailed a taxi, and only breathed a sigh of relief once it was driving away.

’That was a close call. I’ve never met people who get so familiar so fast.’

He took out his phone and looked at the incoming call he had just answered.

’What a lifesaver!’
