Chapter 1254 Lucky To Have Met You 2

Qi Lei’s handsome face flashed with a happy smile as he turned on his side and leaned against the seat gently. He looked at Dongfang Liuyun amusedly.

Dongfang Liuyun remained calm while she focused on the road ahead and drove steadily. She did not want to say anything, but after thinking about, she decided to bring it up anyway. “I don’t know how to say too many encouraging words. Based on the way you’ve been behaving these past few days, you must have met some trouble.”

Upon hearing that, Qi Lei was stunned. Then, he turned to look out of the window. “Can’t hide anything from your sharp eyes.”

After he said that, he kept quiet and did not say anything more, yet Dongfang Liuyun did not ask either. She just silently sped up.

The car instantly fell silent. Apart from the music that played, they could hear the sound of the wind rustling while a fragrance fluttered in the cool breeze. It came from the woman beside him.

Qi Lei kept quiet until he felt a light touch on his ears. It was slightly ticklish, so he subconsciously reached out to touch his ears. Then, he realized that it was her hair flying upward…

“Aren’t you curious about what happened?”

She always seemed so uninterested in everything, and her lukewarm demeanor sometimes made him feel…

“It’s not a good thing for me to know too much. Nonetheless, when it comes to you, if you’re willing to share, I may not be able to help you figure things out, but I can be a listener,” Dongfang Liuyun said, and then slowed down the car.

The car was still traversing ahead. Qi Lei raised his brows, and he watched her from the corner of his eyes as they left Fatong, yet he did not bring up those matters.

Dongfang Liuyun waited for quite a while, and when he did not say anything, she turned to look at him. What greeted her sight was the side of Qi Lei’s handsome and slightly cool face. From this angle, you could see his flickering, long eyelashes. No matter how you looked, he appeared like a frustrated teenager.

As Dongfang Liuyun watched, her gaze suddenly fell solemn.

For some reason, she seemed to be able to resonate with him. Perhaps not a lot of people could understand the situation they were in.

“Let’s go to the library a little later. I’ll bring you somewhere after we’re done eating.” It was not sure how long had passed when Dongfang Liuyun suddenly said this, Qi Lei was a little surprised, so he did not react right away. Eventually, he turned to look at her.

She had already slowly wound down the window, took off her hat, and put it aside as the car picked up speed.

The car sped into the city, and made a few turns at many bustling traffic harbors. Finally, they reached an old city district. She was familiar with the place and brought Qi Lei to a nearby restaurant for lunch. By the time they left the restaurant, it was already past 2 p.m.

“Come with me.”

When they left the restaurant, Dongfang Liuyun walked ahead.

It looked like there was a quiet spot for leisure ahead. Given how familiar she seemed, she must have come here quite often.

It was a very clean limestone pavement that was rather quiet.

The sound of her treading broke the silence of the alley. Her low-heeled boots clopped on the floor, and you could also clearly see the corner of her windbreaker fluttering.

Qi Lei watched her gradually walk away. After a while, he snapped back to his senses and quickly went after her.

The two of them walked through the quiet street one after another.

Soon, they reached the side of the plaza that appeared a little old-fashioned. Many children were ice-skating and skateboarding at the plaza. There were also quite a number of old people walking around while sunbathing, so it was quite lively.

Qi Lei followed Dongfang Liuyun to the side of the plaza, and then she suddenly stopped walking. He was about to ask her what she had in mind when the alluring sound of a violin playing was suddenly heard. It sliced through the clamor of the plaza, and gradually, the crowd quietened down too.

Surprised, Qi Lei quickly turned his head and looked towards the music.

This was when he realized that not too far away in the middle of the plaza by the wishing pond, two people had appeared.

They were a man and a woman who appeared to be middle-aged and were thin. The clothes they wore were not very new, but they were clean.

The melodious tune came from the violin on the man’s shoulder while the woman stood there by his side, dressed in a clean mauve jacket with an autumn dress underneath. She looked quite beautiful, but Qi Lei noticed that her eyes were not focused.

‘When I am down, and oh, my soul so weary…’

With the violin’s melodious rhythm, her clear and pleasant singing was heard.

‘You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains…’

Her passionate voice was heard far and wide. Many people could not help but stop to quietly watch and listen. Even Qi Lei was mesmerized by her spirited and passionate singing.

“They’re husband and wife. They used to have a large-scale manufacturing factory. Ten years ago, because of an accident, their factory was set on fire by some bad people, and in that fire, they lost their only son. The wife’s eyes were blinded by the smoke and the husband’s throat was damaged too. Then, they were burdened with debt, and all their relatives distanced themselves from them.”

At this moment, Dongfang Liuyun’s voice was heard like a cool breeze by his ear.

“They were once so in despair that they thought of suicide, but after that, they came to a realization that with their skills, they could start to plan new livelihoods once more. The wife’s voice is the husband’s voice whereas the husband’s eyes are her eyes. It’s been 10 years, and they’ve won the respect of many people. Even though they are busking on the streets right now, they no longer undervalue themselves and give up. You raise me up…I love this song the most, and it’s a song they sing every day. Every time I’m feeling down, I come here…”

Dongfang Liuyun’s voice gradually softened while a rare mistiness glimmered in her starry eyes. She watched the husband and wife for a long while before continuing, “Look, if even they can go on with life so optimistically, we’re just experiencing occasional frustrations. There are many more things in life that will make one feel more despair than death, but we have to overcome it and not be sad and dejected.”

When she said this, she did not turn to look at Qi Lei, yet he could vaguely feel a sense of comfort from her.

Suddenly, he felt like all those frustrating things no longer made him feel so depressed anymore.
