The Most Arbitrary Wizard

Chapter 500 "Informant

The pale skin could be genetic. After all, this was the other side of the ocean, so it was normal for people here to have different features than those from the Inland. That much was plausible.

Besides, these people were all Wizards. They likely exchanged insights from their Meditation, so it was also possible they followed the same Cultivation path—one whose characteristic was making a person’s skin paler.

Sean had never heard of such Magic, but he wouldn’t deny its existence.

There were countless paths in Mysticism. Some Cultivation methods could even turn men into women and women into men. Since even gender could be changed, making one’s skin pale was nothing special.

But this still didn’t explain why they were “blind.”

“If all else fails, I’ll have to find someone I know,” Sean said.

“Someone you know?” Elvire was puzzled. ‘This guy actually has connections in Cadola Royal City?’

“Who?”

“Owl,” Sean replied.

The last time he’d gone to Witch’s Bay to have Fan Ke’er investigated, Owl’s subordinate had gotten the information by contacting their Fieldwork personnel. In other words, they had people in Cadola Royal City. The tip that “people from the Church Court have come to Cadola Royal City several times before” had also come from them. This was also why Sean believed the local residents were being dishonest and lying.

Reputation is everything to an intelligence agency. Owl gets paid to do a job; there was no reason for her to lie to him.

Besides, the city itself gave him a strange feeling. Between the two, Sean naturally chose to trust Owl.

Since the locals knew nothing, he had no choice but to find the people from Witch’s Bay.

Elvire had heard the name “Owl” before. Elise had told her.

To track down Fan Ke’er and the others, Elise had specifically asked Howard to introduce her to an intelligence agency.

Owl was the head of that agency.

The problem was, hadn’t Elise gone alone?

Sean hadn’t even reached the Golden Coast back then, had he?

“How do you know Owl?” Elvire asked suspiciously.

A look of panic instantly crossed Elise’s face.

‘It’s over. The secret’s out…’

Sean’s expression stiffened for a moment, but he quickly recovered, feigning surprise as he turned the tables on her. “Owl is from Blake City, so of course I know her. But you, on the other hand, have never been to Blake City. How do you know about Owl?”

Elvire stared into Sean’s eyes, saying nothing.

She was studying his expression.

Her intuition told her this guy was hiding something.

But Sean’s acting was too good; she couldn’t find any hint of a tell.

The “Blake City” excuse was clever, too. Elvire had indeed never been there, so she had no way to verify his claim.

She stared at the man before her for a long while, but finding no holes in his story, she finally answered, “Elise told me.”

Elise quickly chimed in, “She’s a friend of the Grev Family.”

“Oh, so that’s how it is,” Sean said, feigning sudden realization. “What a coincidence.”

Elvire pursed her lips.

‘Is it?’

‘Do coincidences really exist in this world?’

Sean knew better than to dwell on the topic. He quickly changed the subject, pulling out his phone. “Hold on, I’ll give her a call.”

There was no way they could find the Witch’s Bay Fieldwork personnel on their own. Even if they did, the agents wouldn’t admit who they were. They had to ask Owl to help them get in touch, arrange a meeting, and have a proper chat about Fan Ke’er and the others.

On the other hand, Sean also wanted a face-to-face confrontation.

If Witch’s Bay really was lying to him and feeding him false intelligence, he would be able to tell from their expressions.

The call connected quickly.

A melodious voice came from the other end.

“Hello, who is this?”

It sounded like Owl’s voice, but it was sweeter than last time.

Sean subconsciously wanted to say, ‘Drop the sweet voice, we both know who this is,’ but then he remembered this was supposed to be his “first time” contacting Owl. He shouldn’t know what her voice sounded like, so he choked the words back down.

He wouldn’t make the same mistake twice.

So Sean just answered directly, “Ain. You must be Owl, right? Mr. Gomez said you could help me.”

Owl: “?”

‘Mr. Gomez?’

‘Who’s that?’

She already recognized Sean’s voice. ‘But wasn’t he introduced by the Grev Family?’

‘…Whatever, it’s not important.’

‘Maybe it’s inconvenient for Sean to talk right now, so he’s saying this intentionally to throw someone off?’

An image of Sean’s face appeared in Owl’s mind. To be safe, she decided to ask a few more questions.

“You’re looking for Owl?”

“I don’t think we have anyone by that name here. Could you describe her for me?”

‘Here we go again,’ Sean thought. ‘Time for the passphrases.’

Sean pretended to think for a moment, then said, “A woman.”

“Long, blonde, wavy hair.”

“A mole by the corner of her right eye.”

“Mm… anything else?” Owl asked.

Sean: “Cup size is roughly a C.”

Elvire, standing nearby: “?”

‘Wait, why is her bust size part of this?’

‘What kind of passphrase is this?’

Owl seemed to remember. She threw another question back at him: “I know who you’re talking about now. She’s our lingerie designer. In that case… do you happen to know what color lingerie she’s wearing today?”

This time, it was Sean’s turn to be confused: “?”

‘A lingerie designer and the color she’s wearing… Is there a connection between those two things?’

‘Howard never mentioned this part.’

Sean wracked his brain, replaying what Howard had told him, and was certain this part had been left out.

He couldn’t exactly call and ask him now, either.

That would really blow his cover.

There were too many colors to choose from; guessing was impossible. Sean could only answer honestly, “I don’t know.”

Owl giggled. “Not knowing is the right answer.”

If he had known exactly what color she was wearing, then she would have had to suspect Sean of spying on her.
