The Most Arbitrary Wizard
Chapter 497: Cadola Royal City
“Sean!”
“Is it spring or something? Are you finally showing your true colors?”
Elvire gritted her teeth in anger.
‘The nerve of this guy! How dare he ask me what I’m doing? He should be asking himself that!’
It was one thing to stare at the female receptionist last night. At least she was fair-skinned, young, and beautiful. You could stretch the excuse that “people are subconsciously drawn to beautiful things.” But today?
First thing in the morning, his wandering eyes were fixed on an old cleaning lady…
‘Elvire just didn’t get it. Sean was never like this before. He always managed to piss her off, but overall, he acted like a gentleman. He never ogled beautiful women—at least not so blatantly. Compared to how he was now, it was like he was a completely different person. Could it be because she’d been calling herself his girlfriend lately? Did that make him think he’d already won her over, achieved his goal, and could finally drop the act and reveal his true nature?’
Elvire said angrily, “I think you really are hungry, to be so indiscriminate!”
Sean had been about to explain, but when he heard Elvire also call him hungry, he decided he might as well play the part. His eyes darted mischievously, and he put on a wronged expression. “It’s not that I want to, Miss Flame Crow, but a man has his physiological needs. Since you won’t let me have a bite, I can only go and drool over others…”
Elvire: “?”
‘How can he blame this on me?’
‘And this guy has actually been thinking about how to *eat* me this whole time…’
‘She’d already let him kiss her, more than once, but he was still not satisfied.’
‘Men really are all perverts!’
“Hooligan!” Elvire spat, her face flushing red.
Sean protested, “How can you say that about me? I’m your boyfriend.”
‘Can you even call this being a hooligan when it’s between lovers?’
‘This is called flirting. It adds a little spice to life.’
Elvire refused to admit it. “Who said you’re my boyfriend? I never agreed to that.”
Sean: “?”
‘We’ve already kissed, and she’s still playing hard to get, huh?’
“You’re my girlfriend. You said so yourself when we ran into Konina,” Sean said.
“So what?” Elvire argued brazenly, despite knowing she was in the wrong. “Me being your girlfriend doesn’t mean you’re my boyfriend. Those are two different things.”
Sean: “?”
‘How is that not a two-way street?’
“Fine, you said it,” Sean retorted irritably. “Since I’m not your boyfriend, does that mean I can go be someone else’s?”
Elvire: “?”
“What do you mean by that?”
Sean immediately turned to Elise, who was enjoying the show from the sidelines. “My dear beautiful lady, I assume you don’t have a boyfriend either? Would you care to consider me?”
Elvire: “??”
Elise, suppressing a laugh, played along perfectly. She reached out to stroke Sean’s face, gave him a sultry look, and agreed, “Of course. I’ve always had a thing for handsome, energetic young men like you.”
Elvire: “???”
“Elise!”
“Get your filthy hands off him!”
‘You’re supposed to be playing along, not actually touching him!’
Elise knew when to quit while she was ahead and quickly pulled her hand back. With an “oops,” she said, looking rather embarrassed, “Sorry, I got a little too into character.”
Elvire’s fists clenched.
‘I don’t think you “got too into character.” I think you’ve just got a death wish!’
“DING-DONG~”
Amidst their bickering, the elevator arrived.
Sean took the opportunity to stop. “Let’s go. No more joking around.”
They still had business to attend to.
Elvire sneered, “Joking? Is making me angry your idea of a joke?”
Sean: “I never said that.”
Elvire: “But you’re doing it!”
Sean stubbornly denied it. “No, I’m not. Don’t wrongly accuse me.”
Elvire didn’t care. “It’s true if I say it’s true!”
And so she gave his waist another vicious pinch, twisting with all her might.
This time, she used much more force than before, making Sean howl in pain.
“OW! Stop, stop, stop!”
“A gentleman uses his words, not his hands!”
‘In this respect,’ Sean thought, ‘Elvire could really learn a thing or two from Elise.’
“Alright then.” Elvire grabbed Sean’s hand, pushed up his sleeve to expose his forearm, and said viciously, “Then watch me bite you!”
“Don’t!” Sean quickly snatched his hand back.
‘This wasn’t the kind of “using her mouth” he could handle.’
His puny Tier Three body was quite fragile. A bite from Elvire would probably leave him severely injured.
Severely injured in the literal, physical sense.
“Scared now?”
“Too late!”
‘When dealing with someone like Sean,’ Elvire thought, ‘you had to be ruthless. Otherwise, he’d just keep provoking her and never learn his lesson.’
Seeing that the young woman wasn’t going to let it go, Sean had no choice but to explain. “Actually, I was surprised by the Magic Power she was emitting.”
Just like the beautiful receptionist from last night, this cleaning lady was also a Wizard.
In terms of the nature of the work, a cleaner’s social status was even lower than a receptionist’s.
Making a Wizard do menial, dirty work like sweeping—a job looked down upon by nobles—just how full of talent was this Potter Family?
Elvire was unfazed. “What’s so strange about that? It’s the same in my family.”
The work had to be done by someone. When a family was full of Wizards, it was only natural that Wizards did everything.
Sean: “…”
‘How is that the same thing?’
“Your Blazing Angel Family is a Grand Duke Family, while the Potter Family is just a Count Family.”
The difference between them was more than just one tier. How could a “mere” Count Family have so many Wizards?
What’s more, since William Castle operated as a hotel open to the public, they could have easily hired ordinary people from the city as staff. It would be cheaper—labor is the cheapest resource in this world. The Potter Family had no need to spend more money hiring Wizards to serve guests. For one, it was a waste of resources. For another, Wizards weren’t as easy to “manage.” If an impulsive one got into a dispute and accidentally hurt a guest, it would ruin their reputation. Wouldn’t the loss outweigh the gain?
