The Most Arbitrary Wizard
Chapter 495: The Beautiful Receptionist
Her features were quite symmetrical, and her fair skin made her look even more stunning.
Furthermore, the girl was a Wizard.
Sean could clearly sense the Magic Power emanating from her. This was the real reason he’d given the receptionist a second glance. In the New World, Wizards were a cut above everyone else. Even a Newborn was considered more noble than a commoner. To have a Wizard working a “lowly” job like the front desk of a hotel… well, it just went to show that the Potter Family was no simple clan.
‘Perhaps this is the difference between the High Nobles and the lesser ones.’
As for how he knew the receptionist hadn’t just grown tired of the Wizard life and decided to find an easier way to make money on her own, but was instead placed there by the Potter Family…
It was because Sean had seen the Potter Family crest on a stone carving when he walked in.
This hotel was one of the Potter Family’s properties.
Sean didn’t mention any of this to Elvire, though.
He just wanted to make his sister-in-law jealous, so he only praised the receptionist’s fair skin and pretty face.
Elvire sneered. “She is pretty fair.”
“Fairer than my brother-in-law who’s been dead for a few hundred years.”
Sean: “?”
‘What a weird comparison.’
“Isn’t your brother-in-law alive?” Sean attempted to defend himself.
But Elvire didn’t give him the chance. “He was dead as far as my memory is concerned,” she said. “This counts as him coming back to life.”
Sean: “…”
He couldn’t help but glance down at his own hands.
‘Are they really not as fair as the receptionist’s?’
Elvire maintained her “disdain” for her scumbag brother-in-law and didn’t want to continue the conversation. She said a few more words and then fell silent, leaving Elise to stifle her laughter from the sidelines.
‘She suddenly realized this was a great setup.’
‘Sean was a smooth talker with a silver tongue. In any kind of verbal sparring, neither she nor Elvire were a match for him. But if they resorted to indirect insults, Sean wouldn’t be in a position to argue back without revealing his identity. That meant they could bully him to their hearts’ content.’
‘Mmm… I’ll have to try that next time.’
Elise knew that this would inevitably provoke Sean’s retaliation someday, but she was the type of person who lived in the moment. Having lived several lifetimes, Elise had long since learned one truth: life is short, so seize the day. Do what you want, and worry about the consequences later.
They arrived at Room 607.
The room was tidy and well-appointed.
Just inside the door was an entryway, which opened up into a living room with floor-to-ceiling windows after a few steps. There was even a small mini-bar in the corner.
Some of the bottles were marked with prices, so it seemed not everything was complimentary. Sean didn’t care, though. He’d burned down a church back in Gothra Town, and the reward from that mission was more than enough for him to blow. He couldn’t take it with him anyway, so he might as well live a little.
Sean selected the most expensive bottle of Champagne and opened it with a POP. He poured himself a small glass and took a sip.
The wine was a beautiful color, a crystal-clear pale gold, and its aroma was potent. It wasn’t particularly full-bodied on the palate, but it was easy to drink. Sean swirled his glass and gave his honest assessment: “Not as good as last night’s.”
As he spoke, he poured glasses for Elvire and Elise as well.
Elvire, however, looked puzzled. “Last night?”
“You were drinking last night?”
Sean: “…”
‘Crap, I almost let that slip.’
He’d even made Elise nervous.
Sean quickly tried to recover, explaining, “Yeah, they had complimentary VIP drinks on the cruise ship.”
“Oh.” Elvire seemed to believe him and didn’t press the issue. “You should drink less,” she said.
‘So you don’t do something stupid.’
Elise finally let out a breath of relief and changed the subject. “So, are we resting tonight and making our move tomorrow?”
Sean nodded. “Sounds good.”
He was a bit tired too after the long ride.
Elise was probably even more exhausted.
Cadola Royal City was Potter Family territory, and the Potters were suspected of being connected to the escort mission involving Fan Ke’er’s group. They were essentially waltzing into the lion’s den. They needed to rest up and be in top condition to have the energy to deal with any potential dangers or surprises.
“I’m going to take a bath,” Elvire said, setting down her glass.
Her assessment was the same as Sean’s; it really wasn’t as good as the wine from the Grev Family last night.
Sean asked her, “Are you going to use the tub?”
“Yeah, why?” Elvire was confused.
She much preferred the feeling of soaking in hot water to taking a shower; it was so comfortable. Plus, since she could use Magic, she didn’t have to worry about hygiene. So, whenever possible, Elvire chose to take a bath. She could even do some light Meditation while she soaked. That was how she accumulated her Magic Power, bit by bit.
‘But… what did that have to do with Sean?’
‘Why was he asking her that?’
Sean said, “After you’re done, don’t drain the water. That would be too wasteful. I’ll just use it after you.”
“I’ve always been a man who’s frugal and good at managing a household, you know.”
Elvire: “???”
‘Do you hear yourself right now?’
‘What part of that is being frugal and managing a household?’
“Ugh, you pervert!”
Elvire cursed, her face flushing red, and turned to storm into the bathroom, wanting nothing more to do with the scoundrel.
Sean couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
He loved seeing his sister-in-law blush.
Elise swirled her wine and teased, “Mr. Writer, you’re getting bolder and bolder, aren’t you? Daring to tease Miss Flame Crow like that.”
“Wrong,” Sean corrected. “That’s not teasing. It’s called building romantic tension.”
“A little playful banter helps strengthen the bond between lovers. Get it?”
Elise blinked. “Then why don’t you engage in a little playful banter with me, Mr. Writer?”
Sean wrinkled his nose in distaste. “You’re not my lover.”
Elise asked, feigning innocence, “Then what am I? Your mistress?”
Her voice was not quiet at all, startling Sean so much that he scrambled to cover her mouth, his eyes wide. “Keep your voice down!”
