The Most Arbitrary Wizard
Chapter 479 - 219: Brother-in-Law, Brother-in-Law
"Don’t come back!"
Sean screamed inwardly.
He heard this voice every day in the Farm World. It was so familiar that he knew it was Elvire the moment he heard it.
But now that Elvire was back, he was as good as dead.
At this moment, Sean felt his heart contort into the shape of that screaming marmot meme.
AHHH!!!
’Don’t come over here!’
Elise froze as well. Her mind felt as if it had been pumped empty, leaving only a blank void with two words echoing inside—
We’re dead!
At that moment, she wished with all her might that she was a Tier Eight Grand Mage. Then she would know some Space Magic and could instantly teleport with Sean to a place where they wouldn’t be caught in the act...
Unfortunately, she wasn’t.
But things rarely go as one wishes.
Time seemed to stop for a second, frozen by Sean and Elise’s shattered thoughts.
But after that second passed, Elvire walked in anyway.
The young woman’s footsteps were like a pocket watch held by the Death God, counting down their final moments. Elvire’s beautiful high heels were the watch’s hands, each step landing squarely upon Sean and Elise’s hearts.
Elise had already lowered her head, not daring to look at Elvire.
But Elvire saw her.
"Sister, they’re still here... Huh?"
Elvire’s surprise stemmed from her prior "conclusion"—back home, she had seen that Sean and Elise were still on the sofa and hadn’t run off. Eleanor and Elise were also present. She had even "interrogated" the two women; it didn’t look like they’d secretly used the Fallen Nether Technique to come and warn Sean. Thus, she’d figured Sean and Elise were likely unaware she was coming to the New World to catch them. They weren’t intentionally hiding—the family simply hadn’t found them yet.
But halfway through her sentence, Elvire suddenly noticed a very familiar figure.
Her expression grew suspicious as she walked step by step toward the woman with the lowered head.
But the other person seemed too ashamed to show her face.
Just as she reached the woman’s side, the woman turned her head away.
Elvire circled halfway around her from behind, and the woman turned her head to the other side again.
Elvire: "?"
’What’s the meaning of this?’
’Too ashamed to be seen?’
Elvire wasn’t like her sister, always concerned with noble etiquette. This woman was deliberately avoiding her, which clearly meant something was wrong. So, she placed her hands directly on the other’s shoulders and said, "Don’t move."
"Or else it won’t be your shoulders I’ll be holding down."
It would be her head.
Elvire felt the woman’s body stiffen and took the opportunity to lean in for a look.
The next second.
The two women’s eyes met.
Elvire’s eyes widened gradually. "Elise?!"
"What are you doing here??"
"Where’s that guy?"
’If Elise is here, Sean must be too.’
’It’s over...’
Seeing the young woman’s swift reaction, Sean, who was sitting nearby, closed his eyes and awaited his doom.
He and Elise were only sitting four or five meters apart. Elvire just had to look up to see him.
Daeli was right next to him, so using the Invisibility Technique was impossible. What else could he do but wait for death?
Sean’s heart was pounding.
He felt that his heart rate at this moment was even higher than when he had faced Quill’s scalpel at Florist Hospital.
At least 150.
Just as Elise forced a smile, still at a loss for how to answer, Daeli spoke up.
"Since you’re back, have a seat."
"We can discuss private matters later. Let’s eat first. Don’t keep our hosts waiting."
Daeli motioned for the young woman to come and sit.
160—Sean’s heart pounded even faster as he felt Elvire’s gaze shift to him.
He could even imagine the young woman furiously shouting his name the moment she saw him.
But this time, Sean guessed wrong.
Elvire wasn’t angry. Instead, she looked even more shocked and uncertain than when she had just seen Elise.
"Brother-in-law??"
"What are you doing here too??"
Sean: "...?"
Elise: "...?"
’Brother-in-law?’
Although Sean was indeed Elvire’s brother-in-law by status, shouldn’t Elvire be calling him by his name at a time like this, or perhaps using a term of endearment like "bastard" or "scumbag"?
Their intuition told them both that something was very wrong.
Daeli, however, seemed a little displeased with her sister’s reaction. "Is that how you greet your brother-in-law?" she said.
Elvire’s brain couldn’t quite process it.
There were only six people at the long table: the Viscount Mockray family, her sister, and Elise. The last person should have been Sean, but it wasn’t him.
Besides their father, the only man who could sit next to her sister was Carl Black.
Not to mention, this man’s face was as indistinct as a statue, with a "signature" blurriness.
Who else could this be but her scumbag brother-in-law?
"But..."
’She’d only been gone a little while. How could Carl Black suddenly appear at a Grev Family gathering?’
’And with Elise, of all people??’
’Or is this just a coincidence? Is Elise a friend brought by Howard, and did Carl Black specifically come to reunite with his wife after discovering she was here?’
Elvire’s mind was a mess.
Sean’s was even more of a mess.
It wasn’t just messy; it all felt utterly bizarre.
’Elvire has clearly seen me and recognized Elise, so why did she call me "Brother-in-law" instead of "bastard"?’
’The young woman’s reaction doesn’t seem like an act, but the problem is, her "brother-in-law" and her "boyfriend" are the same person. How could Elvire possibly recognize me as Carl Black, but not as Sean?’
"No ’buts’," Daeli said. "Greet your brother-in-law properly. We’ll talk about the rest when we get back."
With that, Daeli gave Viscount Mockray a slightly apologetic smile, signaling that the dinner could begin.
