The Most Arbitrary Wizard
Chapter 476: The Last Supper
Sean’s voice wasn’t actually that loud.
The pianist was still diligently playing, which muffled the sound somewhat.
But to the ears of Viscount Mockray and his family, it was like a sudden clap of thunder, leaving the three of them utterly stunned.
This was especially true for Howard.
His eyes were wide as saucers, and his jaw dropped so low you could fit two pieces of Witch Wood in it.
‘Did I hear that right?’
‘What did Sean just call Daeli Duke?’
‘Wife???’
Then there was Daeli herself.
That form of address, one she hadn’t heard in a long while, seemed to stir up old memories. A gentle ripple passed through Daeli’s eyes, and the corners of her lips curved into a barely perceptible arc. Her mood suddenly became excellent. The churning Magic Power in the air gradually subsided, and the pressure in the banquet hall vanished completely. Even her voice was much softer than before as she looked at Sean, pursed her lips, and said, “Come and sit.”
“Okay, wife,” Sean replied obediently.
The Mockray family: “???”
‘Wait, is Sean really Daeli Duke’s wife??’
‘…Pah!’
‘Is Daeli Duke really Sean’s wife??’
Howard was completely stupefied.
Calling Daeli Duke “wife” wasn’t the scary part.
Anyone could do it, as long as they were bold enough and not afraid of dying.
The key was that Daeli Duke had tacitly accepted it!
In fact, she seemed quite happy to be called “wife.”
Daeli had been the Clan Leader of the Blazing Angel Family for years, constantly dealing with other nobles. She had long since perfected her control over her expressions; she could hide all her joy, anger, and sorrow if she wished. But Howard was, after all, the heir to a Viscount Family. He might have a reputation as a good-for-nothing playboy, but if he didn’t have any real ability, why would Viscount Mockray entrust him with the Blazing Angel Family’s contract?
The Grev Family’s enterprise might not be massive—it couldn’t compare to the High Nobles—but it wasn’t small either. At least at the Viscount level, few families were developing as well as the Grev Family.
If Howard were truly just a profligate son, Viscount Mockray and his wife would have already tried for another heir. Why would he introduce Howard as the Grev Family’s successor in front of Daeli?
Leaving aside his actual competence, Howard’s ability to read people was at least up to par; it was a required course for every child of nobility. He had clearly seen Daeli Duke smile just now—not the polite, courteous smile of aristocratic etiquette, but a smile of genuine good humor.
That was why Howard was dumbfounded.
He had known from the start that Sean’s identity wasn’t simple and had even made a few guesses, but he never expected it to be *this* far from simple!
That guy… was actually Daeli Duke’s husband!
You have to understand, the first time he saw Daeli Duke, he was stunned by her otherworldly beauty.
He had traveled extensively and seen all kinds of beautiful women.
But he had truly never seen anyone like Daeli Duke.
It was mainly her aura.
Pretty faces are a dime a dozen, but an elegant aura is one in a million.
It was a kind of noble dignity etched into her very bones, something that couldn’t be cultivated without generations of refinement.
It is said that everyone appreciates beauty. However, when faced with the breathtakingly stunning Daeli, Howard couldn’t muster a single thought beyond respect.
He knew his own limits and understood that it was impossible.
Interactions between nobles had always followed the rule of matching social status. Whether it was marriage alliances or business dealings, such things only happened between those of the same tier. And the gap between the Grev Family and the Blazing Angel Family was as wide as the Black Sea chasm. It was a gap that couldn’t be crossed in this lifetime, the next, or even the one after that.
Just being able to do one business deal with the Blazing Angel Family was already the height of fortune. Asking for too much would only turn that fortune into a curse, sending the Grev Family plunging into the abyss.
That’s why Howard didn’t have a single ulterior thought.
But that didn’t stop him from bringing Sean to the banquet to show his face before Daeli Duke.
The main reason, of course, was his hope that Sean could seize this opportunity to make a good impression on Daeli Duke. Perhaps in the future, he could forge a connection with the Blazing Angel Family. After all, Sean’s status was likely higher than his own, giving him a greater chance of befriending them.
On the other hand, Howard also wanted to see Sean’s shocked reaction.
He himself had been stunned by Daeli Duke’s otherworldly beauty, and as a friend, Howard wanted to see Sean have the same reaction.
Then he could use it as an opportunity to tease Sean.
That’s what good friends do.
From Sean’s initial reaction, Howard could tell he hadn’t expected the Grev Family’s distinguished guest to be Daeli Duke of the Blazing Angel Family. He was clearly surprised, which was why Howard had even specifically asked, “Quite a surprise, isn’t it?”
But he never, ever expected that while Sean was indeed surprised, he wasn’t stunned by her otherworldly beauty.
Instead, he was fucking stunned to see his wife!
‘The powerhouse he didn’t even dare to have a single thought about, and Sean just went and called her “wife”!’
Howard wasn’t very articulate, and at this moment, only one word could describe his current mood—
‘Spooked!’
‘No, utterly haunted!’
‘The friend I randomly met and befriended on the cruise is actually the husband of the Blazing Angel Family’s Clan Leader…’
‘This is even more ridiculous than catching a Mermaid while fishing!’
Viscount Mockray was equally shaken.
Because Sean had been late, he had initially thought Howard’s new friend wasn’t much to speak of—someone with no basic sense of punctuality wasn’t worth getting close to.
But now…
He suddenly changed his mind.
“Hahahaha!” As the head of the family, Viscount Mockray reacted quickly. Seeing Sean sit down next to Daeli Duke, he immediately burst out laughing. “I never would have guessed that Mr. Sean and Daeli Duke had such a relationship.”
