The Most Arbitrary Wizard

Chapter 438 206: Hoyev 2

'Don't tell me just any random assassin can see that I'm Carl Black.'

Logic told him that the shadow probably wasn't referring to that identity.

'But besides that one, what other identity do I have?'

"You're from the Blazing Angel Family!" the shadow said.

Sean: "?"

Hearing the two words "Blazing Angel," he instantly understood.

"Have you been to Old Mundo City?"

To be precise, they hadn't just been to Old Mundo City, but had also attended the art exhibition ball held by the Little Gista Family.

Because he had only used the Blazing Angels' name when he entered Eve Mansion that one time.

"So what if I have?" the shadow cursed. "You damn running dogs of the Church Court! You should all go die!"

He was trying to provoke Sean with his words.

Hoping to anger him enough to attack directly.

As soon as he attacked, there would be an opening. Then he could suddenly turn back and catch Sean off guard.

He didn't want to kill any more people, especially someone from a major family. His only target had been the Priest. After all, he wasn't a Grand Mage; if things got too out of hand, it would be difficult for him to escape.

Everything had been going smoothly. He had snuck into the church and killed the Priest without anyone noticing. But who knew that at the last moment, three people would show up wanting to pray to their "Master." Not only was his disguise as the Priest seen through, but they also chased him relentlessly. He couldn't shake them off, so he had no choice but to go all out.

But to his surprise, Sean wasn't the least bit angered by his harsh words.

Not only was he not angry, Sean even joined in on the cursing—

"That's right!"

"The people from the Church Court are all scum!"

The shadow: "?"

This, in turn, left him a bit stumped.

Sean added, "I'm saying this for the third time: I'm really on your side."

"Heh." The shadow sneered. "So cursing yourself a couple of times can change your allegiance? In that case, if I call myself a bastard a few times, does that make me one of your Church Court people?"

Sean said helplessly, "Man, I'm really not with the Church Court."

"Don't forget what I just asked you in the prayer room."

He had wanted to know if a Grand Mage was stationed in this town because he planned to destroy the church.

'If he were really with the Church Court, would he mess up his own territory?'

The shadow: "..."

'That does seem to make sense.'

But.

"Anyone can talk the talk. Saying something doesn't mean you'll do it."

The shadow taunted, "Who knows if you're not just trying to set a trap?"

Sean: "?"

'Hook you? The hell?'

'Do you think you're a total babe like my little sister-in-law? What's the benefit in hooking up with you?'

After saying the nice words several times to no avail, Sean was also getting a little annoyed. He just wanted to ask the shadow a few things, not actually team up and befriend him. 'Since you won't show me any respect, don't blame me for not holding back.'

'Questioning him after tying him up would work just as well.'

"If you keep running, I'm really going to get serious," Sean warned him one last time.

This was exactly what the shadow wanted. His tone was exceptionally punchable. "Come on, hit me!"

He had sensed it long ago. Sean was merely a Tier Three. If it weren't for his apprehension about Sean's Blazing Angel Family identity, would he have tolerated being chased through so many streets?

But now that he had decided to be ruthless, he was naturally no longer afraid.

The difference in Tiers was right there. A Tier Three Wizard wanting to attack a Tier Five Wizard... To put it bluntly, every single line of the Magic Spell Sean was about to chant would become a fatal opening in his eyes.

However.

What he didn't expect was that Sean didn't need to chant for his Casting.

He only said one word.

"POP!"

Sean provided the sound effect himself.

The next second.

A giant cone formed from countless golden characters materialized out of thin air above the shadow's head. It rotated slowly, overflowing with streams of light, filled with the radiance of knowledge and a geometric beauty.

The shadow: "???"

"How did you do that without a Spell??"

Sean: "Don't worry about it. Eat this."

BOOM!

The Cone of Truth came crashing down.

Caught completely off guard, the shadowy coating covering his body from the Escape Magic was shattered on the spot. He was slammed flat on the ground. His head was ringing, his mind thrown into chaos by a deluge of knowledge, and he almost passed out.

He didn't understand.

'Isn't Sean a Tier Three?'

'Why was my defense broken??'

The shadow he wore wasn't just for hiding his appearance and physique; it was a type of Magic Shield in itself.

But with a single touch from that cone, it had shattered.

"You had to do this the hard way."

Sean snorted, dusted off his hands, and walked over.

Getting closer, he discovered that this "Mr. Assassin" wasn't as slender and agile as his shadowy form suggested. On the contrary, he was a bit chubby—a slightly paunchy, middle-aged man in his forties.

Sean stood beside him, folded his arms, and looked down at him. "Can we have a nice chat now?"

The man looked up and spat. "You're despicable!"

In his understanding, a Great Magic like this absolutely required a Spell to guide it. Otherwise, it would be impossible to create a resonance between the body and Magic Power to shape and control it. Therefore, he believed Sean hadn't skipped the Spell, but had already cast it—secretly, when he wasn't paying attention.

'Everything was part of this guy's plan!'

"You have no magic etiquette!"

"Didn't you tell me to hit you?"

Sean couldn't be bothered to explain. He said lazily, "Well, I hit you. So just behave. Start with an introduction."

The man yelled, "I'm your husband!"

Sean: "?"

'Are you looking for a beating?'

The man had originally wanted to say, "I'm your daddy," but considered it too common and not impactful enough, so he changed his words.

As luck would have it, Elise, who had just caught up, heard this exact line.

Elise instantly flew into a rage.

'You can insult Sean, but you can't insult his taste or orientation!'

'Doing that is the same as insulting me and my good sister, Elvire!'

So, without Sean even having to lift a finger, Elise rushed over, launched a flying kick, and sent the man flying into a wall, embedding him in it with a miserable cry.

"That's what you get for running your mouth."

Elise spat, then turned back and looked Sean up and down. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine," Sean said with a smile.

Elise knew he had a Forbidden Spell. Against a mere Tier Five, even if he couldn't win, it would be very difficult for his opponent to hurt him. But he didn't find her question redundant; on the contrary, he quite enjoyed the feeling of being cared for.

Sean walked toward the man in the wall, prepared to give him one more chance.

His patience was limited. If the man didn't answer properly this time, he was really going to have to ramp things up on him.

He didn't know Mind Magic, but he did know math.

'When it came to torture, no one was better at it than him.'

But halfway there, he suddenly noticed a few business cards on the ground.

They had fallen out of the man's clothes from Elise's kick.

"Look at you, dropping loot."

Sean teased as he picked up a card to look at it.

On the back: Labrador Ancient Jewelry Co., Ltd.

The front listed a name and title: "General Manager: Hoyev"

Sean froze.

"Hoyev?"

'Wasn't that the name of the general store owner from 71 Back Street in Blake City, the one who saved Chris once and had gone out to restock?'

"You're Hoyev?" Sean looked up at the man, his gaze burning.

The man denied it flatly. "No, I'm not."

"I don't know any Hoyev. I took these off the Priest."

"You're lying."

Anna had also arrived by now. She first checked on Sean, and after confirming he was fine, she turned back to the man. "The money in the Priest's wallet is still there. You didn't take the cash, but you took a few business cards?"

Killing someone for business cards sounded ridiculous.

Sean nodded at Anna, his playful expression vanishing. He spoke to the man seriously, "Mr. Hoyev, I've been looking for you."

"You've got the wrong person."

The man continued to deny it. "I already told you, I'm not Hoyev, and I don't know any Hoyev. You should go ask the people at the church."

"Is that so?"

Magic Power surged in Sean's palm. He covered his face with his hand, wiping it from his forehead downward.

This was the Witch's Curse. Its effect was similar to a Witch Potion, but its duration was very short and it was easy to see through—you didn't even need a Smell Crow. It was an extension of the Transformation Spell, generally used for situations requiring only a brief disguise, like fooling facial recognition.

"You don't know Hoyev, but what about him?" Sean asked.

When he took his hand away, his face had completely changed.

The man finally dropped his stubborn act. He stared at Sean, his gaze trembling.

"Ch-Chris?"
