Daemon woke to soft morning light and the memory of last night still burning under his skin.

Wild did not even cover it.

Victoria slept against his right side, one arm draped over his chest. Sana clung to his left, white hair spilled across the pillow, breathing slow and deep. For a moment he did not move.

He only stared at the ceiling and let the quiet hold, listening to the soft rhythm of their breathing and the faint city noise beyond the estate walls.

Then he muttered under his breath.

"System. Open my full status."

The interface unfolded across his vision in clean lines.

WHA reporting status: active

Daemon’s eyes stopped on one line longer than the rest.

Memory Capsule 1 — Unlocked.

He could open it now.

He did not.

Not yet.

If he watched those memories now, he knew himself well enough to admit what would happen next. He would jump straight into Virendal and leave too many unfinished problems behind.

Victoria’s curse still needed a real solution. Roxanna’s divorce had to be finished before the soul bond.

Sana’s bloodline path was only beginning to stabilize. His own position inside WHA was still weak on paper.

Kassia was pregnant and recovering. Leonard and Adrian were still breathing somewhere out of reach.

Earth first.

Virendal after.

He closed the status window and let the morning settle back around him.

Beside him, Victoria stirred.

"You’re thinking too hard for morning," she murmured, voice rough with sleep.

Daemon turned and kissed her cheek.

"When did you wake up?"

"Just now." She studied his face for a second. "What are you planning about Apex? Leonard and Dr. Adrian."

"I found them," Daemon said. "Lucien did. I think they’re in Virendal. Not certain. But possible."

Victoria’s eyes sharpened at once.

"So they know about that world? They can access a portal too?"

Daemon shook his head.

"I don’t think they can open one on their own. Someone from the Virendal side likely opened the way and is either helping them or using them.

That’s why I haven’t rushed the kill. If Leonard and Adrian are still alive, they can lead us to whoever is running this from the other side. ℴℴ𝘮

Race unknown. Identity unknown. But the head of the operation is almost certainly not from Earth."

Victoria was quiet for a second, then nodded.

"Good. Then we cut the root, not just the branches."

"After Lucien and Yuna’s marriage," Daemon said. "I’ll invite them into Virendal if possible.

If they want, they should attend the Bloodline Trial too. They’re Hale family. It’ll help them climb higher."

Victoria’s expression softened.

"Thank you, Daemon. For thinking of them."

He poked her forehead lightly.

"Don’t thank me. I’m your husband. They’re family now. And without Lucien, Kassia might still be lost. I want him to awaken properly too."

Victoria laughed under her breath.

"I never thought that lazy loser would become useful. But when it comes to family, he’s the MVP."

"He is," Daemon agreed.

Then Roxanna’s voice entered his mind, clear and focused.

Daemon, are you awake? We need to clear a dungeon today. I’m already waiting at the gate.

Daemon answered at once.

Give me the address. I’ll come as soon as I can. And Roxy — once your divorce is settled, we’re doing the soul bond. I’m not risking you without it.

There was a short pause on her end.

I already sent the documents to Garrick, Roxanna replied. We’ll do it. Now hurry. The other hunters are already here.

Daemon turned back to Victoria.

"Roxanna’s waiting at a dungeon gate. I have to go."

On his other side, Sana was still deeply asleep, face peaceful, one hand loosely curled in the blanket.

She looked nothing like the sharp-tongued fighter who usually filled a room with teasing.

"Let her sleep," Daemon said. "Don’t wake her."

Victoria smiled knowingly.

"Of course. It was her first time... and it was with us."

Daemon laughed under his breath.

"Don’t mention that to her. She’ll pout for half the day."

"I’ll try," Victoria said, clearly not promising much.

He bathed quickly, dressed, and went to check on Kassia before leaving.

He found her in the main hall, seated on the sofa.

Calista was with her.

That alone made Daemon pause in the doorway.

Ever since the night Calista had nearly tried to kill him, she had barely appeared around the others.

She spent most of her time shut inside her room, silent and withdrawn, like a shadow that refused to join the rest of the house. Seeing her out in the open, talking with Kassia, was the first good sign in days.

He walked over.

"Good morning. What are you two doing?"

Kassia turned at once, eyes bright.

"Daemon, look. She’s a real vampire. She can turn into a cute little bat."

"I know," Daemon said, then looked at Calista. "I’m heading out. Do you want something to eat?"

Calista turned her face away at once, stubborn as ever.

Daemon did not push.

"I’ll buy ice cream and cake," he said mildly. "Do you want it or not?"

Her expression changed in under a second.

She spun back toward him, all pride forgotten.

"I want it. I want it."

Daemon smiled.

"Alright."

He told Kassia he was leaving for a dungeon run, promised to return with the sweets, then headed out into the morning traffic.

The taxi dropped him near the gate site.

Barricades surrounded the area. Officials checked every hunter before entry, scanning IDs and verifying team assignments.

The air near the gate felt heavier than normal city air, thick with residual dungeon pressure even from outside.

Warning signs and temporary barriers formed a rough perimeter, and a few lower-ranked hunters lingered at a distance just to watch the A-Rank team assemble.

Daemon showed his hunter ID, passed through, and walked toward the staging zone.

Roxanna was already there.

And she was surrounded.

Hunters, staff, and a few clearly interested men formed a loose ring around her while she spoke with calm confidence.

Someone asked her a question about healing coverage. Another tried to compliment her rank in a way that had very little to do with strategy. Roxanna answered only what mattered and ignored the rest.

Daemon stopped for a second just to watch.

He had always believed she would become someone important one day. Seeing her now SS-Rank, composed, no longer shrinking from attention filled him with quiet pride.

The woman who once carried failed marriage and quiet pain now stood in public like someone the field had to take seriously.

Some of the men near her were smiling too hard.

Daemon shook his head.

Not happening.

He walked closer.

The moment Roxanna saw him, she stopped mid-conversation and came straight to his side.

"Why are you late?"

Behind her, several faces tightened with obvious irritation.

Roxanna turned slightly and introduced the team without wasting time.

"These are our assigned members for today’s A-Rank gate."

First was a broad-shouldered man with short dark hair and a scar along his jaw.

"Marcus Haleen. A-Rank vanguard. Heavy shield and impact force."

Next was a sharp-eyed woman with tied-back brown hair and dual short blades at her hips.

"Lira Voss. A-Rank striker. Close-range burst combat."

The third was a taller woman with pale blonde hair and a staff bound in blue crystal thread.

"Elena Myre. A-Rank support caster. Barrier work and mid-range suppression."

Daemon nodded to each of them.

Marcus gave a short professional nod back. Lira studied him with open curiosity. Elena only adjusted her staff and waited.

"So why are we still waiting?" Daemon asked.

Roxanna hesitated.

"Our team captain hasn’t arrived yet."

"Do you know who it is?"

"No. WHA only listed the rank requirement and the gate code. Captain assignment came separately."

An expensive black car rolled to a stop just beyond the barricade line. The engine was quiet, the body polished enough to stand out against the utilitarian hunter vehicles parked nearby.

One of the team members straightened at once.

"There. Our captain’s here."

The door opened.

A man stepped out into the morning light.

Daemon’s eyes locked on him, and irritation rose fast and hard in his chest.

Him?
