The More I Invest in My Wives, the Stronger I Become
Chapter 77: Bloodline Unleashed
Kassia’s eyelids felt heavier than stone.
Light stabbed through the narrow gap as she forced them open, vision swimming in blurred layers of white and steel.
For a moment she could not tell where she was. Then the cold of the restraints reached her skin, and memory returned in ugly fragments the drink, Adrian’s face, the floor tilting away.
The first person she saw was Dr. Adrian.
He stood in front of her in a long white coat, hands moving over a console with clinical precision. Instruments hummed.
Screens glowed. He looked exactly like the man who had spoken to her in a quiet coffee shop about justice and survival.
Only now there were chains on her wrists and ankles.
Kassia tried to lift her hand.
Metal bit into her skin. Both arms were locked to the chair. Her legs were bound the same way.
The more she pulled, the more the restraints answered with hard mechanical clicks.
Adrian noticed the movement and turned.
"You’re awake," he said.
He stepped closer, voice calm, almost gentle.
"Don’t move. You will be fine after some procedures. Before that, I will explain everything."
Kassia stared at him.
She did not need the explanation.
Understanding hit her all at once, sharp enough to cut. He had manipulated her.
Every warning, every file, every urgent instruction to cut ties and run had been a path into this room. She had walked into his trap with her own feet.
And in the process, she had destroyed everything she built.
Daemon’s face rose in her mind with brutal clarity the anniversary table, the food he cooked, the way his expression broke when she ended them.
She had hurt him with her own mouth. She had chosen the words that shattered him.
That mistake could not be taken back.
I have to go and see him.
The monitors beside the chair spiked.
Adrian’s eyes flicked to the readings.
"Kassia, don’t get anxious." He leaned in, lowering his voice. "I know I look impossible to believe after trapping you here.
But I did this for you. If I didn’t, they would have killed you one way or another."
Kassia’s breathing roughened.
"So if you give them what they want," Adrian continued, "I will make sure you stay alive and eventually leave this place. I promise you that."
This time, she did not swallow his words.
Her voice tore out of her raw and furious.
"I never should have listened to you in the first place, you fucking bastard. Release me. Now."
Adrian’s expression tightened.
He opened his mouth again, but whatever persuasion he still had left no longer reached her.
High above the chamber, behind layered observation glass, Leonard Valen watched the feeds in silence.
He had waited for Adrian to settle the girl.
It was clear now that Adrian could not.
Leonard’s fingers tapped once against the console.
He did not have time for this.
The door to the room opened.
Leonard Valen entered with unhurried steps, coat immaculate, presence heavy enough to change the air.
Kassia saw him for the first time and felt instinctive revulsion crawl up her spine. She did not know his full history yet, but her body recognized a predator when one walked into the room.
She thrashed harder against the chair.
"Let me out!"
No one moved to help her.
Leonard stopped a few paces away and looked down at her as if inspecting a delayed shipment.
"Girl," he said evenly, "if you do not listen to me, your loved one is going to get hurt next."
The words landed harder than any restraint.
Kassia froze.
All the fragile hope she had left the belief that at least Daemon was safe because she had pushed him away cracked in a single line.
Her loved one.
Daemon.
The room temperature plummeted.
Frost crawled faintly along the metal arms of the chair. Adrian’s head snapped toward the monitors, then toward Leonard.
"Don’t," Adrian said quickly. "Leonard, stop. She is already unstable"
Leonard did not listen.
He took one more step closer.
"Obedience," he said, "is simpler than grief."
Something inside Kassia tore wide open.
Her eyes turned blood red.
The monitors screamed as her vitals spiked beyond human range. Heart rate. Mana density.
Cellular activity. Every graph shot upward in violent red arcs. Warning sigils flooded the screens. Adrian stumbled back from the console.
"No her bloodline is reacting!"
The chains were the first to fail.
White light erupted under Kassia’s skin, so bright the nearest researchers shielded their faces. The wrist restraints glowed, trembled, then burst apart in a spray of molten links.
The ankle locks followed with a shrieking crack. Kassia’s body arched as if pulled upward by an invisible force.
Then her scream changed.
It deepened mid-note, no longer fully human, rolling out of her throat with a pressure that shook dust from the ceiling.
Bones shifted with wet, impossible sound. Her back split with radiant heat as wings forced themselves into existence, unfurling in a violent cascade of pale membrane and gleaming white scale.
Her limbs thickened and lengthened. Horns swept back from a reforming skull. A tail smashed sideways and obliterated an entire instrument bank in one blow.
Scales exploded across her body like armor being born under lightning pure white, edged in faint frost-blue light.
Each breath released freezing vapor that rolled across the ruined floor. In seconds, the chair was gone, crushed beneath a rising mass of dragon flesh and fury.
The room could not hold her.
Walls buckled. Ceiling supports screamed. Glass detonated outward as the white dragon’s full size forced the chamber to collapse around it.
What had been a research room became wreckage under claws large enough to crush vehicles. Wings flared open and cast the entire wing in cold shadow.
The roar that followed was catastrophic. ℯℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Adrian fell to one knee, ears ringing. Leonard staggered back despite himself, eyes wide for the first time with genuine shock as the creature before them lifted its enormous head.
Moon-bright scales. Blood-red eyes. A body so vast it made every prior containment plan look childish.
Leonard recovered enough to seize Adrian by the collar and drag him close amid the falling debris.
"What is she?!" he snarled. "You never told me she had awakened something like this!"
Adrian’s face was ashen, staring up at the white dragon that had once been a woman begging to be released.
Around them, the ruined chamber continued to collapse and above the destruction, the dragon’s furious gaze burned like a judgment neither man was ready to face.
