Chapter 237: Broken Blade Pierces Armor

  • Next Chapter

A Huben Army Captain under the age of twenty…

And a rookie who had never even been in a military camp.

Even though Lu Bai had displayed the strength to sweep away all opposition, many in the Huben Army still found it hard to accept.

Of the three Captains, Yang Xiao’s injuries were the lightest.

Yang Xiao rose from the crowd and hurried to Shi Yong’s side. He circulated his True Qi to massage and loosen Shi Yong’s locked joints.

Yang Xiao then went to Zheng Lun’s side and checked his injuries.

Fortunately, his arms only had hairline fractures and weren’t completely broken. They would heal completely after a period of rest, leaving no hidden injuries or lasting problems.

“Brother Yang, grab your weapon and fight him!”

Zheng Lun whispered.

Having been taught a lesson by a young man in front of everyone, Zheng Lun, as one of the three great Captains, ultimately couldn’t swallow his pride. He refused to accept this outcome.

However, he couldn’t use his arms, so he could only let Yang Xiao and Shi Yong take the field.

“Don’t worry, I know.”

Yang Xiao nodded slightly and said in a low voice, “Even if we lose today, we have to regain some face and redeem the honor of our Fuhu Camp!”

As long as they could make Lu Bai bleed, they would consider it a win for the day.

For the Huben Army, weapons were what they practiced with most and were most skilled in.

After all, no one fought bare-handed when killing enemies on the battlefield.

Yang Xiao looked at Shi Yong.

A silent understanding passed between them; Shi Yong instantly knew what Yang Xiao was planning.

Shi Yong stretched his muscles and bones.

Although a few of his joints still ached faintly when he moved, it was tolerable and wouldn’t significantly affect his combat ability.

Shi Yong nodded at Yang Xiao.

Yang Xiao’s spirits lifted. He looked at Lu Bai and said loudly, “Young brother, your fist and foot techniques are truly formidable. However, in our military camp, what really matters are weapons.

On the battlefield, sabers and swords have no eyes. No one chooses to fight empty-handed.”

“That’s right!”

“Exactly.”

A chorus of agreement quickly rose from the crowd.

“You want to use weapons?”

Lu Bai smiled, his expression noncommittal.

Someone had already brought over Yang Xiao’s and Shi Yong’s weapons.

Lu Bai’s gaze swept over them.

Yang Xiao wielded a Miao Saber, its blade long, slender, and exceptionally sharp.

This man was known as ‘Chasing Wind’; his saber technique must be incredibly fast.

Shi Yong wielded a pair of iron hammers.

Lu Bai had seen Duke Wei’s pair of golden hammers before. Just a single glance was enough to feel their terrifying power, which was incredibly oppressive!

Shi Yong’s pair of iron hammers looked heavy and powerful. A blow from them would break bones at the very least, and at worst, it would be fatal.

But compared to Duke Wei’s golden hammers, their aura was far too lacking.

Lu Bai’s combat power was clearly greater than the two of them.

Yet, Yang Xiao and Shi Yong still had some confidence.

Besides being more skilled with weapons, there was another important reason.

They were both wearing Armor.

This was a crucial advantage on the battlefield.

The side with armor naturally held the upper hand.

Moreover, battles on the field were often a matter of trading life for life.

With the same saber strike, the armored party might escape unharmed or with only a minor injury thanks to their Armor.

At the very least, they could survive.

But the unarmored party would die on the spot!

“There’s no need to use weapons.”

Lu Bai looked at the fully equipped and eager Yang Xiao and Shi Yong, shook his head slightly, and spoke in a calm tone.

“What, are you scared?”

Yang Xiao asked in a deep voice.

Lu Bai didn’t explain. He took the black cloth-wrapped weapon from his back, slowly unwrapped it to reveal the Cyan Cloud Sword within, and looked at Yang Xiao in the distance. “If you can block one strike from my sword,” he said coolly, “I’ll consider it your win.”

“How ridiculous…”

Hearing this, rage flared in Yang Xiao’s heart.

‘This is beyond insulting!’

‘We’re both in the Innate Realm. I’m wearing Armor and wielding a Tier Two Top Grade Treasure Artifact. If I focus everything on defense, you think I can’t even block a single one of your strikes?’

Before Yang Xiao could finish his sentence, a flash of sword light suddenly erupted!

The Cyan Cloud Sword was unsheathed.

The crimson-gold sword light arrived in an instant, heading straight for Yang Xiao’s face!

Yang Xiao’s pupils contracted. With no time to dodge, he hastily raised his Miao Saber to block.

CLANG!

The sound of metal striking metal rang out.

A shower of sparks appeared in front of Yang Xiao.

The brilliant, dazzling sword light from a moment ago vanished as quickly as it had appeared.

Lu Bai sheathed his sword.

The Cyan Cloud Sword was already back in its scabbard.

Yang Xiao stood motionless, seemingly unharmed.

Shi Yong swallowed hard, his face pale.

That last strike had been terrifying!

And that was against Yang Xiao, whose saber technique was the fastest in the Fuhu Camp, allowing him to block in time.

If it had been him, he probably would have been decapitated before he could even lift his twin hammers.

Zheng Lun, watching from the side, sized up Yang Xiao and asked quietly, “Brother Yang, are you alright?”

“I’m fi—”

Yang Xiao had just started to speak when the Long Saber in his hand suddenly broke.

Half of the blade fell to the ground.

CLATTER!

Immediately after, the Armor on Yang Xiao’s body split down the middle, instantly scattering across the ground in pieces.

In an instant, the entire crowd erupted in an uproar!

With a single strike, he had broken Yang Xiao’s weapon and Armor.

Yet the clothes Yang Xiao wore underneath his Armor were completely undamaged.

A sword strike that could break a blade and pierce Armor could have just as easily taken Yang Xiao’s life!

But Lu Bai had held back with that strike.

He hadn’t even torn Yang Xiao’s clothes.

This ultimate level of control over his swordsmanship was, in fact, even more awe-inspiring!

Whether it was Yang Xiao, Shi Yong, or Zheng Lun, none of them could say a word.

Yang Xiao, in particular, felt a wave of delayed fear, his heart still pounding.

After that one strike, he was already drenched in sweat.

“What kind of weapon was that? Captain Lu just cut through Captain Yang’s Tier Two Top Grade Treasure Artifact!”

“It must be Top Grade, at least.”

“No, I think I saw the light of five blood halos!”

HISS!

Many people sucked in a sharp breath of cold air.

Five blood halos… an Unparalleled Treasure Artifact?

No wonder he said there was no need to use weapons.

When it came to weapons, the three Captains stood even less of a chance.

“General Yue!”

Just then, someone spotted a figure standing in mid-air and cried out in alarm.

“Greetings, General Yue!”

Everyone followed the voice and looked up, hastily bowing in salute.

Yue Qianshan had arrived just in time to witness the scene of Lu Bai’s sword strike breaking the blade and piercing the armor.

With his level of Cultivation, he could naturally tell that Lu Bai had clearly held back, and he couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.

‘Fortunately, the boy has some restraint.’

‘It seems Duke Chen’s admonition was of some use after all.’

Yue Qianshan looked at Zheng Lun and the other two, asking slowly, “What do you think of this Captain’s strength?”

“We are humbled and not his equal.”

Zheng Lun and the other two exchanged a glance and bowed their heads in unison.

Even though Lu Bai was a rookie under twenty, the absolute power he had just displayed was more than enough to command their respect.

Yue Qianshan landed and mused, “According to the rules of the camp, Lu Bai’s combat ability is now number one in the Fuhu Camp. This position of Captain…”

“General Yue, I hope you will reconsider this matter!”

Zheng Lun couldn’t help but speak up. “I believe Brother Lu has the strength. But the men have followed Leader Han for many years. Leader Han’s death has not been avenged, and without any resolution to that, it’s a hurdle the men can’t get over in their hearts.”
