The Mirror Master

Chapter 159: Husband, Are You Tired?

  • Next Chapter

At this thought, Lu Bai broke out in a cold sweat.

His heart hammered wildly, threatening to leap out of his chest!

Lu Bai did his best to remain calm, taking a few deep breaths to steady his Heart and Spirit. He didn’t dare turn around to confirm what was behind him.

For one, he was afraid of tipping it off.

For another, he was genuinely terrified.

Lu Bai crouched beside the grave, gazing at He Liangzhi, who lay inside the coffin.

He Liangzhi’s chest rose and fell faintly. He was still breathing.

Thank goodness, he was still alive.

But a moment later, another thought struck Lu Bai, and his heart clenched in alarm.

If he had turned and left just now, He Liangzhi would have been buried in this coffin. Given enough time, he would have surely died for good.

He’d only had a passing thought to cremate the Ghost Bride’s bones, never expecting that he would indirectly save He Liangzhi in the process.

At this moment, Lu Bai still couldn’t be sure which was real and which was fake—the He Liangzhi in the coffin, or the one he had been carrying all this way.

After a moment’s thought, Lu Bai stepped forward and gently pried open He Liangzhi’s hand.

He immediately spotted the White Emperor Mother Coin in the man’s palm!

’The one in the coffin is the real one!’

’Then the one I’ve been carrying all this way is...’

’The Ghost Bride!’

At this realization, Lu Bai’s face turned several shades paler.

It wasn’t surprising that he hadn’t noticed.

He had burst into Renyi Manor and seen ’He Liangzhi’ about to marry the Ghost Bride. In his haste to rescue him, his first impression had stuck.

Besides, the fake ’He Liangzhi’ had shown no signs of being unusual during their journey.

Even the Black Dog had remained calm and given no warning.

’Could it be that even the Black Dog can’t sense the Ghost Bride’s presence?’

’Can a mere Fierce Ghost be this powerful?’

Lu Bai had just fought that young Water Ghost.

He had subdued it without even using some of his trump cards.

’How can this Ghost Bride be so difficult to deal with?’

’Could she be a Corpse Ghost?’

Lu Bai jumped in fright.

’No!’

’Wait,’ Lu Bai thought again. ’He Liangzhi is still alive.’

’The Ghost Bride didn’t possess He Liangzhi’s ’body’ to revive herself. Does that mean she’s still just a Fierce Ghost?’

Forcing himself to stay calm, Lu Bai fumbled inside his robes and pulled out the Yin Soul Compass.

He channeled a sliver of Blood Qi into it.

The next instant, the Compass’s needle began to spin frantically!

The body of the Compass instantly turned as black as ink.

CRACK!

Before Lu Bai could even react, the Yin Soul Compass exploded, showering the ground with fragments of Jade.

Lu Bai sucked in a sharp, cold breath.

"Husband, what is it? Are you tired from carrying me all this way?"

Just then, Lu Bai heard a soft, sweet voice, as if someone was whispering right in his ear, their breath warm and fragrant.

The hairs on Lu Bai’s body stood on end. Fear triggered pure instinct, and he swung his sword back without a second thought!

The Cyan Cloud Sword flared with brilliant light.

SQUELCH!

The blade tore through fabric and sank into flesh!

Lu Bai spun around to see the Ghost Bride, clad in her phoenix crown and wedding veil, standing right in front of him. The sword was buried in her chest, and she stared at him with a wronged, pitiful expression.

The Cyan Cloud Sword had pierced the Ghost Bride’s chest, yet not a single drop of blood trickled out.

With no time to think, Lu Bai flung a handful of prepared Five Emperors Coins with his left hand.

At this range, nearly all of them struck the Ghost Bride.

But they had no effect, simply clattering to the ground.

Lu Bai clenched three Five Emperors Mother Coins in his left fist and swung a punch at the Ghost Bride’s cheek.

With his right hand, he formed a blade-hand, surging Blood Qi to form the Dragon Elephant Suppression Stele, and brought it crashing down on her head!

"ROAR!"

At the same time, Lu Bai’s eyes blazed as he let out a sudden shout.

The roar of a tiger echoed.

The Silence Shocking Secret Technique erupted!

BAM! BAM!

Lu Bai landed a punch on the Ghost Bride, followed by a heavy palm strike that crashed down on her skull.

The Ghost Bride didn’t dodge or evade, taking both of Lu Bai’s attacks head-on.

She just stood there before him, head tilted slightly up, her eyes glistening with tears, a picture of heart-wrenching pity.

The Five Emperors Mother Coins, the Dragon Elephant Suppression Stele, the Silence Shocking Secret Technique—none of them had any effect on the Ghost Bride. They didn’t even cause a ripple.

The Ghost Bride’s eyes grew misty as she whispered, "Husband, why did you hit me? What did Chuchu do wrong?"

Lu Bai was scared half to death; he was in no state to speak.

’That little combo... it should’ve gotten a reaction even from a Corpse Ghost, let alone a Fierce Ghost, right?’

’But this Ghost Bride acts like nothing happened at all.’

Lu Bai channeled his Blood Qi into the Ancient Mirror. A dark vortex instantly materialized on his chest, and an eerie light shot out to envelop the Ghost Bride!

The Ghost Bride remained motionless.

The Ancient Mirror, an artifact that was unfailingly effective against Ghost Souls and other evil entities with its absolute power of suppression, showed little reaction to the Ghost Bride.

’I’ve used all my trump cards and I haven’t even broken through her defense.’

’This is awkward...’

Lu Bai blinked, scratched his head, and stammered, "Uh... if I said I was just joking around, would you... believe me?"

"I would!"

Bai Chuchu nodded vigorously, her tears giving way to a smile. "My husband cherishes Chuchu. You would never really hit me."

’She actually believes that crap?’

Lu Bai froze for a second.

’Then again, I suppose only a ghost would believe that kind of lie.’

Bai Chuchu’s gaze shifted down to Lu Bai’s chest. A strange look flickered in her eyes as she said in a haunting voice, "But, Husband... your sword thrust just now, it hurt Chuchu very much."

The Cyan Cloud Sword was still run through Bai Chuchu’s chest, a shocking and gruesome sight.

No matter how flowery his words, that was going to be difficult to explain away.

Moreover, Bai Chuchu’s tone had clearly changed.

Lu Bai couldn’t help but shudder.

Just then, Bai Chuchu slowly raised a hand. She extended a single finger, as pale and smooth as jade, and aimed it at Lu Bai’s chest.

Lu Bai was horrified and tried to retreat.

But he found himself frozen in place, as if bound by some invisible force. He couldn’t move an inch!

He could only watch, helpless, as Bai Chuchu’s finger touched his chest and began to slowly press in!

Lu Bai shot a desperate glance at the Black Dog and Ah Ming nearby.

Ah Ming was trembling uncontrollably with its head tucked under its belly, in no better state than he was.

The Black Dog, however, was strangely calm. It simply sat to one side, neither coming to help nor showing any fear. It looked completely relaxed.

Bai Chuchu’s fingertip pierced through his robes and touched his chest.

As their skin made contact, Lu Bai could clearly feel the chill radiating from her fingertip.

The next moment, a sharp pain flared in his chest.

Bai Chuchu’s finger had pierced right through his chest!

No matter how much Lu Bai struggled, it was useless.

THUNK!

Her finger struck the Ancient Mirror on his chest and stopped.

Something inside the Ancient Mirror seemed to change.

But Lu Bai was terrified out of his mind, his heart filled with despair. Believing he was doomed, he didn’t pay any mind to the Ancient Mirror.

After her finger touched the Ancient Mirror, Bai Chuchu did not press further and slowly withdrew her hand.

Her once-pale fingertip was now stained with Lu Bai’s blood.

Bai Chuchu raised the bloodstained finger to her red lips, sucked it lightly, and gazed at Lu Bai with a mysterious smile.

The sight made Lu Bai’s skin crawl, and he wanted nothing more than to curse his head off.

’If you’re going to kill me, just get it over with. What the hell is this?’

Just then, Lu Bai found he could move again.

The powerful force that had bound him was gone.

But Lu Bai didn’t dare to move.

"Uh, let’s be reasonable here..."

Lu Bai’s mind raced. His voice trembling, he said, "I... I stabbed you with a sword, and you stabbed me with a finger. So... we’re even now, right?"

’She believed that nonsense before,’ he thought. ’Might as well try again. What if it works?’

Bai Chuchu didn’t answer, only watched Lu Bai and giggled softly.
