Chapter 334. Cicero: A Dreamlike Triple Promotion in One Year

Three days ago, he had withstood immense pressure from his family and chosen Sylvia’s side.

The facts proved that his judgment had been ruthlessly sharp.

Now, Dorg had exited the stage, Moran had defected, and the old nobles were all dead. Sylvia was about to be crowned queen.

As a “meritorious follower of the dragon’s ascent” who had helped Sylvia and her people several times, the Golden Griffon Merchant Guild was certain to enter an unprecedented period of expansion.

Phoenix straightened his collar and knocked on the carriage wall.

“Have the convoy move faster! I want to enter the palace and have an audience with Her Majesty the Queen as soon as possible.”

At the same time, at the Royal Capital West Station.

A Northern Territory Magitech Train, painted entirely black and spewing hot white steam, slowly pulled into the platform amid the ear-piercing sound of metal friction.

The carriage doors sprang open. Cicero carried an exquisitely crafted genuine leather briefcase, his polished leather shoes stepping onto the bluestone slabs of the platform. His expression was still somewhat dazed.

Before he had time to observe the prosperity of this thousand-year-old capital, and even before he had time to breathe a single mouthful of Royal Capital air, two black figures appeared on either side of him like ghosts.

They were two Shadow Guards dressed in black and wearing featureless masks.

“Lord Cicero, Her Highness requests your presence.” The Shadow Guard’s voice carried no fluctuation at all as he directly made an inviting gesture.

Cicero wasted no words. Carrying his briefcase, he directly boarded a black carriage that had been waiting for quite some time.

The carriage sped all the way forward. Heavy curtains blocked his view, but Cicero could feel that the carriage passed through layer after layer of military checkpoints without obstruction and without any inspection, driving straight into the heart of power—the Golden Rose Palace.

Cicero followed behind the Shadow Guards, passed through a long corridor, and arrived before the door of a spacious study.

A Shadow Guard pushed open the door and made an inviting gesture.

Cicero took a deep breath and stepped into the study.

Inside the study, Sylvia wore an elaborate dark-gold ceremonial dress and was standing before the huge floor-to-ceiling window. Logaris sat on a sofa, flipping through a thick stack of files. On the tea table beside him were two cups of steaming black tea.

“Your subject Cicero pays respect to Her Majesty the Queen, and to Professor Logaris.”

Cicero pressed a hand to his chest and knelt on one knee. That exquisite Meriga-style high-end suit carried a hint of unrestrained elegance when worn by him, and his salute was flawless, revealing his unique composure and gentlemanly grace.

Sylvia turned around. Without exchanging pleasantries, she walked straight to the desk and picked up a heavy golden seal.

“The previous High Justice of the Royal Capital was Moran’s man.”

Sylvia’s tone was calm, as though she were stating a trivial matter. “Now, this position belongs to you.”

Cicero looked at the golden seal on the desk, which symbolized the highest judicial authority of the Astrelia Kingdom. His eyelids twitched sharply, and the corner of his mouth rose in an almost imperceptible arc of confidence.

When he received the urgent transfer order to enter the capital, he had vaguely guessed that a larger stage was waiting for him. He simply had not expected Her Majesty the Queen to be so generous—she had directly smashed the highest authority of the kingdom’s judiciary into his face.

Cicero caressed the heavy Seal of the Chief Justice in his hand. The cold touch of metal delighted him both physically and mentally.

If this had been half a month ago, he might have found it somewhat troublesome.

As someone who studied law, he understood better than anyone what kind of state the Royal Capital’s judicial system was in. It had long since rotted and begun to stink, and the tangled interest groups within it were a hundred times more complicated than those bumpkin nobles in the Northern Territory.

But now...

He had heard about the “grand spectacle” that took place at Redleaf Manor that night. Those lofty old nobles had already made an extremely “dignified” collective exit from the stage, and even that once-overbearing Minister of Finance had enjoyed the cold wind on the gallows in the square.

Since the hardest stumbling blocks had already been completely removed on a physical level, the only ones left were merely small fries who had lost their backers.

To deal with such people, the Meriga laws and old methods of the Court of Equilibrium stored in his mind were enough to teach them a proper lesson.

At that thought, a sharp gleam of eagerness flashed through Cicero’s shrewd eyes.

“The legal system of the Northern Territory has already been established. The remaining daily work will temporarily be managed by your assistant.” Sylvia looked at him, her tone allowing no refusal.

“The mess in the Royal Capital needs someone professional enough, and someone who does not belong to any faction in the Royal Capital, to take the burden. You are the most suitable.”

Logaris closed the file in his hand and took a sip of black tea.

“Cicero, a large number of people died at Redleaf Manor, and several hundred corrupt officials have been arrested in the dungeon over the past few days. The duty of the Chief Justice of the Kingdom is not merely to sit in court and strike a gavel.”

“Their family assets need to be liquidated, and their crimes need to be finalized. Most importantly, the old laws are no longer suitable for the current new order. I hope that within three months, you can revise and perfect that set of laws you implemented in the Northern Territory, then put them into effect across the entire nation.”

Across the entire nation!

Upon hearing those words, not only was there no fear in Cicero’s eyes, a blazing fire instead ignited within them.

When he implemented the 《Special Act Abolishing Noble Judicial Immunity》 in the Northern Territory, he had accumulated an entire set of valuable experience for dealing with the privileged class.

And now, the most stubborn and enormous old noble forces in the Royal Capital had been wiped clean in a single purge. The greatest resistance to legislation had already vanished entirely.

This meant that his next task would be an unprecedented dimensional suppression! There was no pressure at all, only a vast world waiting for him to display his abilities.

In his younger years, when he had worked as a civil official in the Court of Equilibrium, those ideals regarding absolute justice had once fallen silent under the grinding weight of reality.

But now, these two supreme rulers were personally placing the carving knife to reshape the scales of justice for the entire nation into his hands.

He would not only be a mason. He would also become the codex-forger of Astrelia’s new order!

Without the restraints of the old nobles, this new code would surely be implemented with incomparable smoothness in every corner of the kingdom.

He, Cicero, was destined to leave a bold and brilliant stroke in the history of Astrelia.

This was no longer merely bringing glory to his ancestors. This was practically enough for him to have an entire page opened for him alone in the family genealogy!

“Your subject accepts the order.” Cicero stood, smoothed the wrinkles on his suit, bowed slightly, and left the study with steady, confident steps.

Only after he sat in the carriage returning to his temporary residence did Cicero look at the newly cleared sky over the Royal Capital outside the window, and Reynard’s ever-cold face surfaced in his mind.

Brother Reynard, those words of yours back then—“Lots of money, come quickly”—were truly not wrong.

Behind this overwhelming fortune is a vast world where I can fully display my abilities and uphold justice!

I wonder what Brother Reynard is doing right now...

After returning to his residence, Cicero did not even eat. He immediately spread out letter paper, grabbed a quill, and began writing to his wife far away in Winter City with a trembling wrist.

In the letter, he described the events of the day in detail, and between the lines, there was irrepressible ecstasy and unease.
