Chapter 3428: Retconning Memories
Chapter 3428: Retconning Memories
Eight hours passed as Rui exhausted himself developing anti-Shenlong techniques.
By the time Amare had gotten up, he was completely decked.
“You said you were going to train me when I got up!” Amare exclaimed as she watched Rui dig into his bed, collapsing like a corpse.
“I’ll do it when I recover.” He yawned. “Make sure you don’t tire yourself out by the time I wake up.”
“Like you did?” she raised an eyebrow.
She didn’t get any response.
He was already asleep.
She heaved an exasperated sigh before spotting the pouch of gold coins that Rui had picked up from the gang leader that he had killed, smiling with a hint of expectation and delight. “Hehehe… don’t blame me for what is about to happen.”
She grabbed the pouch before making her way to the markets in the town with an eager expression.
By the time Rui woke up many hours later, he found himself surrounded by so many items and products that he briefly wondered when he had fallen asleep in the middle of a flea market.
“What in the…?” he gazed around the room.
All manner of clothes were spread about.
A variety of little trinkets that had caught Amare’s eye and fascination.
A variety of books in languages that Amare couldn’t even read, of course.
“You…” he gazed at her, having donned an ethnic traditional attire local to the Hlakaschken Trade Empire.
A single one-piece gown that tightly bound itself to her body, highlighting every curve and bump.
“…You should consider wearing that more often,” Rui murmured with a nod. “Let’s get you more of those, actually.”
“Pervert,” she muttered, studying her reflection in the mirror.
“You know we’re going to have to throw all of this when we leave right?”
Amare turned to him with a hurt expression.
Rui stared at her for a few seconds before heaving a sigh. “We’ll figure something out. For now, come here and let’s get started. We have delayed this enough.”
Her expression grew more expressive while her eyes lit up. “Finally, let’s get started.”
She ended up flat on the bed with closed eyes while Rui activated his misdirection, before using his words to lull her into a deep trance.
“Remember your life as the Martial.”
His words were almost incantative.
Yet, she stirred as memories of her life as Esil emerged from deep within her.
“Remember your travels through the continent, spreading Martial Art everywhere you went.”
A flood of memories over centuries and millennia emerged in her mind.
“Remember all the experiences you have had,” he continued. “All the experiences you have converted into power.”
Her mind began growing more and more distant as her conscious mind began drowning further and further, while her soul surfaced. It was a state of mind that was similar to the state of mind that he was in when he used Gigabrain, an extraordinarily deep trance.
Rui used his mind sense and the SOUL model he had on her to read her mind, identifying exactly what memories boiled up to the top of her mind.
Then, he got started.
Using nonverbal communication, he began surgically operating on her memory center, editing memories and changing the muscle memory within her mind as he allowed her to gain new experiences in place of the old ones.
He activated his Martial Art, trying to go through all the motions.
He wasn’t directly implanting his movements into her mind; that wouldn’t work, for they had very different bodies. What he was trying to do was extract the series of actions within her muscle memory that could be woven together to create high-principle techniques that she could use that were attuned to her own body, since they were her own movements.
He was essentially reducing a tapestry to its constituent threads and then recreating a new tapestry from those threads.
It was difficult beyond belief.
Only Rui could do it.
And only Amare could it be done to
Amare stirred as she began experiencing techniques and principles that she had never had before, gaining access to a whole slew of power unlike anything she had ever felt before. Her efficiency had always been extraordinary, even among Martial Artists, but now she could channel that power through highly effective high principles.
During that time, she had been in a daze of new memories and new experiences.
Her body moved in ways it never had before.
She experienced Soul Retcon as revisiting her story as it was being retconned by an outside force.
It was a deeply uncomfortable feeling, one that she would have never tolerated if not for the fact that she had absolute trust in Rui, who directed all his attention to the process, careful not to make even a single mistake that could complicate everything.
He continued embedding new techniques and new power in her mind and memories as one set of her life as Esil grew completely tainted and doctored.
If not for the fact that she had many more copies and duplicates in her mind, she would have eventually gained an identity crisis of massive proportions. But because of her unique circumstances, she could afford to make her Soul Retcon a permanent thing, unlike Rui, who always kept it on a temporary timer before it came undone.
Rui, on the other hand, only grew more excited as his instincts told him more and more about how much stronger Amare was growing with each passing minute. The unfathomable, bottomless potential for power within her began converting into real, actual power.
He could feel the sense of danger radiating from her growing with each passing second, making him more excited and hopeful for how much her power would grow by the time he was done with her.
With high principles, her diversity at the highest levels had only grown with each passing moment, allowing her to attack, maneuver, and defend against her opponents in more ways than she ever could.
RUMBLE…
Tremors passed through the world as Rui pushed himself to the limit.
