The Magnificent Son-in-law
Chapter 950 - 950: Drunken Confession
Hearing these familiar words, Old Yang couldn't help but be stunned, then left the window and came out of the back kitchen.
He walks with one leg higher than the other, it seems there's a problem with one of his legs.
"Is that... Xiao Feng?" Old Yang looked at Qin Mantong beside Xiao Feng, somewhat uncertainly.
"If it's not me, who else could it be." Xiao Feng smiled, looked down at Old Yang's legs, and frowned slightly: "Why is your leg lame?"
Old Yang's expression darkened, he sighed, clearly unwilling to say more.
A moment later, Old Yang punched Xiao Feng's chest: "You little brat, seems like you're doing pretty well?"
"Anyway, better than you, old man." Xiao Feng retorted unceremoniously, his tone was just like years ago.
"Get out! Get out! Get out! You're not welcome here." Old Yang snapped.
"You run a business, how can you kick out customers?"
"This temple is too small to accommodate a big Buddha like you."
Xiao Feng couldn't help but laugh: "You do business and I'm the consumer, believe it or not, I'll complain about you now?"
"If you want to eat, first pay me the month's debt." Old Yang said expressionless.
Xiao Feng clicked his tongue: "You're still as stingy as ever, don't worry. This time I'll settle everything once and for all, old debts and new."
"Now that sounds better." Old Yang rolled his eyes and drove Xiao Feng and Qin Mantong out, busying himself alone in the kitchen.
About half an hour later, Old Yang came out with a large plate, nearly a hundred skewers, including lamb, chicken wings, beef tendons, some golden needle mushrooms, and other vegetables.
Qin Mantong stepped forward to take the tray, jesting: "If you sway any more, all this will be wasted grilling."
"If it's wasted, you both still have to pay." Old Yang replied, turning to Xiao Feng: "Stop standing there, go inside and move the beer."
Once Xiao Feng moved the beer, Old Yang pulled down the rolling door, hanging a wooden sign with the words "Closed" on a nail on the door.
"Don't just stand there, hurry and try while it's hot, see if it tastes the same as before." Old Yang beckoned.
Xiao Feng and Qin Mantong didn't hesitate, eating while finding faults, not a single compliment among their comments.
Old Yang pretended to be angry: "You say it's not good, but you're eating it so eagerly?"
"I paid for it, of course, I'm going to eat it. If I return it all, would you agree?" Xiao Feng picked up another beef tendon skewer.
"Do you think I'd agree?"
"Exactly, besides, don't touch these skewers, or I'll deduct them from your account later."
"Come on, considering how long you've owed me, I'm just collecting a little interest, not excessive right?"
After eating some skewers, Old Yang began urging Xiao Feng and Qin Mantong to drink beer.
The three ate, drank, and chatted aimlessly, the atmosphere reminiscent of old times, just missing several people.
When slightly tipsy, Old Yang opened up.
Xiao Feng and Qin Mantong then realized, Old Yang's son was imprisoned five years ago for failing to repay a loan.
His wife, unable to bear the constant debt collectors, divorced him two years ago.
As for his leg, though he didn't say, it's guessed to be injured by debt collectors.
According to Old Yang, he now wishes for nothing more than to live to see his son released.
This made Xiao Feng quite contemplative, having such a troublesome son might be worse than none.
But before they are born, who can guarantee they'll be good or bad?
So, it's like the old saying, aside from a few inherently vicious ones, most depend on how they're educated.
After two cases of beer, all the skewers were finished, Old Yang wobbled as he stood up: "I'll go grill some more for you."
"Let's leave it for another day, let's settle the bill now." Xiao Feng stood up to steady Old Yang.
"Get out!" Old Yang waved his hand: "Settle what bill? If you really want to settle the account, call everyone here someday, and pay me together."
"Alright then, let me help you get to sleep." Xiao Feng said.
Xiao Feng helped Old Yang to a small room with just enough space for a bed, took out all his cash from his wallet, and placed it under Old Yang's pillow.
He then took out Old Yang's account book from the bedside drawer, leaving his contact information on it.
Finally, he made a call to Di Junxiong, asking him to come over tomorrow to at least deal with those frequent debt collectors.
Having done all this, Xiao Feng stepped out to find Qin Mantong had already moved the tables and chairs inside and cleaned up outside.
"Shall we, hiccup… go?" Qin Mantong drunkenly said.
Xiao Feng nodded: "I'll get you home."
After locking the door for Old Yang, Xiao Feng helped Qin Mantong walk about five hundred meters, waited at the intersection for a taxi.
Qin Mantong frowned, slurring: "Why have we stopped?"
"Waiting for a car." Xiao Feng replied calmly.
"No!" Qin Mantong leaned on Xiao Feng's shoulder, smiling: "I want you to carry me home."
"Is your home nearby?"
"No, you just walk… I don't know for how long, but surely before dawn we'll get there."
"..." Xiao Feng.
Before dawn?
You really dare to say that.
Just then, a taxi came slowly down the street.
Xiao Feng waved, and once it stopped, helped Qin Mantong into the backseat.
But at that moment, Qin Mantong suddenly rushed towards a trash can by the roadside, vomiting violently.
Xiao Feng had to follow, gently patting her back.
The taxi driver, seeing this, didn't wait and sped away.
"Did you do that on purpose?" Xiao Feng asked, looking at the disheveled Qin Mantong, lines of worry crossing his forehead.
"Smart!" Qin Mantong raised her head, one hand resting on Xiao Feng's shoulder, the other touching his face, tilting her head, smiling: "Little Feng... you're quite handsome."
Xiao Feng felt a moment of awkwardness, knowing the situation with Ma Zimeng, made the feeling more odd.
But knowing it's a whole different matter.
Just like between men, casually putting arms around each other's shoulders is normal.
But if you knew the person doing it actually likes men, it becomes unsettling.
"Where's your home? I'll take you back."
Qin Mantong squinted at his words, her brows furrowed and then relaxed: "Where's home? Where's home?
Oh... I don't have a home anymore."
Xiao Feng's heart ached, unable to speak for a long time.
Qin Mantong slowly reaches for Xiao Feng's waist, then tiptoed whispering in his ear: "Xiao Feng, you probably don't know, actually... I like you... always have."
The sudden confession left Xiao Feng momentarily flustered.
Towards Qin Mantong, he'd never had any other ideas.
Despite occasional ambiguous gestures beyond mere friendship, Xiao Feng always saw Qin Mantong as a close, platonic friend.
He had feelings, but not to that extent.
