The Magnificent Son-in-law
Chapter 1398 - 1398: The Right to Know
Facing Xiao Feng's question, Yao Qianxue nodded, indicating she was indeed curious.
Xiao Feng continued, "That's because their target isn't just me, it's also the organization I'm currently with.
This organization was specifically formed to deal with the Devil's Concentration Camp. You might have heard of it; it's known externally as the Demon Suppression Action Team."
"Demon Suppression Action Team, Devil's Concentration Camp..." Yao Qianxue murmured softly and asked, "Doesn't the Demon Suppression Action Team have any bomb disposal experts?"
"Of course, they do," Xiao Feng said truthfully. "The problem is, my friend inside the Devil's Concentration Camp can warn me.
So, can anyone guarantee there aren't eyes from the Devil's Concentration Camp within the Demon Suppression Action Team?"
"So, you came to me for confidentiality?"
"That's right."
"Then..." Yao Qianxue hesitated, "If it needs to be confidential, why did you tell me all this?"
Xiao Feng exhaled deeply, "Because you deserve the right to know. Take today, for instance; you almost lost your life.
Before you passed out, weren't you at all curious about why you might've died?"
"..." Yao Qianxue.
She really wanted to say she wasn't too curious, but it seemed unnecessary to voice it, so she just nodded lightly.
Xiao Feng turned the fish over on the fire and said, "What I just told you is pretty much the whole story. You can choose to withdraw, and then you can return to a peaceful life."
"I'm not withdrawing," Yao Qianxue shook her head. Her tone was light, yet it gave off a very determined feeling.
Xiao Feng nodded slightly, "Alright, if you have any questions, you can ask them now."
Yao Qianxue pondered for a moment and then said, "The person we encountered today, were they from the Devil's Concentration Camp?"
"Probably," Xiao Feng said thoughtfully. "To be fair, it was my negligence."
"Hmm?"
"After entering the Yue Lake Reservoir, did you see anyone along the way?"
Yao Qianxue recalled carefully for a moment and shook her head, "Not really, just saw two people fishing."
At this point, she suddenly realized, "Do you mean those two people fishing were the eyes of the Devil's Concentration Camp?"
"Or it could be the old man guarding the place," Xiao Feng explained. "But either way, judging from our exposure, the bomb under Jiangxin Bridge should have been discovered."
Yao Qianxue nodded in agreement and asked, "We removed the bomb, won't the Devil's Concentration Camp plant bombs elsewhere?"
"Probably not," Xiao Feng reasoned. "Explosives like these can only be acquired from places like coal mines, and mining explosives aren't on the same level as TNT.
In other words, even if the Devil's Concentration Camp plans an explosion, it won't cause the bridge to collapse or blow open the sluice gate."
"In that case, do we still need to dismantle the bomb at the sluice gate?"
"No need," Xiao Feng shook his head slowly, "From what I know about the Devil's Concentration Camp, the bomb should have been moved by now.
And the man who threatened us earlier probably didn't get a good look at my face."
"What do you mean?" Yao Qianxue asked, puzzled.
Xiao Feng chuckled, "If he'd clearly seen my face, he would have pressed the button without hesitation, skipping any negotiation or standoff stage."
This was no joke. According to Tang Yunshu, the people who came this time were Death Warriors, the kind who don't plan to return alive.
In this case, their choice to die with him together not only was possible but also quite likely.
And Xiao Feng's explanation intrigued Yao Qianxue, "What exactly did you do to make the people from the Devil's Concentration Camp hate you this much?"
Xiao Feng thought for a moment and smiled, "The issue isn't about what I did, but in their eyes, I must die.
There might be elements of resentment involved, but it's not just simple hatred.
Take for instance how the Devil's Concentration Camp established the rule that whoever dares to leave must be made worse than dead.
And up until now, they've always followed through, catching and torturing those who intended to leave, using all kinds of cruel and inhumane methods.
As a result, no one dared to entertain the thought of leaving again.
But one day, I became an exception; after leaving, not only did I survive, but I also lived well.
In doing so, the previous rules of the Devil's Concentration Camp were broken, and my very existence successfully reignited the desires of those who wished to leave.
So unless I die, the Devil's Concentration Camp will always be embarrassed."
"Makes sense," Yao Qianxue nodded in agreement.
Of course, she didn't know that Xiao Feng's explanation was somewhat one-sided and differed in many ways from the reality.
At that point, Xiao Feng took the grilled fish off the fire, peeled back the bark, and a fragrant aroma wafted up.
Xiao Feng blew on it to cool it a bit and then began to devour it.
After such a conversation, Yao Qianxue seemed to forget about the incident of being undressed and asked with a smile, "What do we do now, do we find a direction and walk out?"
"Let's fill our stomachs first. Oh, see if your phone still works."
With that, Xiao Feng handed Yao Qianxue her phone.
After unlocking it, they found it could still be used normally.
"I'll make a call and get someone to pick us up," Xiao Feng reached out his hand for the phone.
Yao Qianxue handed the phone over, resting her chin on her knees, a barely noticeable sense of loss flickering in her eyes.
[A lone man and woman, stranded by the river, unable to contact the outside world.
So they had to make do, filling their bellies, warming up by the fire at night, chatting, and watching the stars...]
These scenarios reminiscent of idol dramas Yao Qianxue had naturally fantasized about in her mind before.
But as it turns out, idol dramas are just that—a big gap from reality.
For example, she woke up to find she only had her underwear left...
Thinking of this, Yao Qianxue's cheeks burned, and she began to feel irritable.
"Here's your phone." After making the call, Xiao Feng handed the phone back.
Yao Qianxue took it and slid it into her pocket, asking, "Can we leave here tonight?"
"We can!" Xiao Feng replied confidently, "In no more than half an hour, someone will come to pick us up."
"Oh..." Yao Qianxue bit her pink lip, her expression complex with various emotions, but not the joy one would expect.
Xiao Feng said with a chuckle, "You're not thinking of spending the night here, are you?"
"No, of course not..." Yao Qianxue replied, a bit guilty, her eyes wandering around as she changed the topic, "This place, cars can't drive over here, right?"
"Drive?" Xiao Feng frowned, "Weren't you listening when I was on the phone?
There's a helicopter coming to pick us up."
"Helicopter!" Yao Qianxue's eyes widened, "Is it being sent by the Demon Suppression Action Team?"
Xiao Feng nodded, confirming it.
Yao Qianxue grew curious about what kind of organization this was, to casually dispatch a helicopter.
Unknowingly, the grilled fish in her hand had been reduced to a skeleton.
She glanced at the cleaned fish beside her, her eyes filled with eagerness, "Can you teach me how to grill fish? I want to try grilling one myself."
"Sure!" Xiao Feng agreed readily, eating his fish while guiding Yao Qianxue to make her own grilled fish.
And Yao Qianxue wasn't too shabby with her skills, using a knife to score the fish, then coating it with honey, wrapping it in bark, and placing it on the grill.
Xiao Feng patiently instructed on how to tell if the fish was cooked, how to control the heat, occasionally cracking a joke, making Yao Qianxue giggle.
The harmonious atmosphere truly felt like a camping trip.
