The Magnificent Son-in-law
Chapter 1302 - 1302: Something's Off About You
Having Wang Lubo prepare fake watches and fake antiques was naturally to deal with Hua Ling, who was coming that night to split the profits fifty-fifty.
Xiao Feng didn't think there was anything unprincipled about this; after all, Hua Ling was still a public official of sorts.
Doing this was essentially to prevent the other party from straying further down the path of wrongdoing—it could be considered a great act of benevolence.
Half an hour later, a pickup truck stopped outside the villa.
Two young men got out of the car, and one of them ran up to Wang Lubo with a smile on his face, saying, "Mr. Wang, everything you asked for has been brought over."
"Unload the truck!"
"Yes, Mr. Wang."
The young man agreed readily and motioned to his companion to get back on the truck, the two of them working together—one on top, the other below—to unload the goods.
As Wang Lubo was about to go into the villa to find Xiao Feng, he saw Xiao Feng already walking out, carrying a large pile of finely crafted boxes.
"Feng, the goods have arrived. Want to go over and take a look?"
Xiao Feng nodded and followed Wang Lubo towards the pickup truck.
On the ground, there was a large pile of fake watches, and next to them, a vast assortment of various items.
Cups, bowls, teapots, paintings, vases, and so on.
At this moment, the taller youth clapped his hands and said, "Mr. Wang, that's about it. See if it meets your requirements?"
Wang Lubo looked at Xiao Feng, about to speak, when a loud shout came from a distance.
"Hey you over there, no vending allowed in the villa area!"
Xiao Feng, Wang Lubo, and the two young men simultaneously turned towards the source of the voice, and saw, unmistakably, a Security Guard in uniform patrolling.
"Don't get the wrong idea, we're not vendors," said the young man who had spoken to Wang Lubo earlier, walking over to the Security Guard while taking a cigarette out of his pocket.
Xiao Feng couldn't help but chuckle silently, crouching down and casually picking up a fake watch, scrutinizing it closely.
To be honest, he really couldn't tell if this watch was real or fake.
As the saying goes, the poor buy cars, and the rich play with watches.
Though Xiao Feng was considered quite wealthy, he didn't normally have a habit of playing with watches.
Nevertheless, he still said, "The imitation is just an imitation; there's still a gap compared to a real watch."
"That's certain." Wang Lubo echoed, "If there's no difference between a fake watch and a real watch, who would be willing to pay tenfold, even a hundredfold the price for a real watch?"
Putting down the fake watch, Xiao Feng unfurled a rolled-up scroll, slowly revealing a landscape painting, with a poem attached beside it:
[Painting]
Tang Dynasty, by Wang Wei
From afar, the mountains have color; close by, the waters are soundless.
When spring is gone, the flowers remain; when people come, the birds are unalarmed.
"So moist, so moist!" Wang Lubo nodded repeatedly, as if moved by the art.
Xiao Feng couldn't help but be exasperated; he didn't want to comment on the poem itself, but paired with the landscape painting, it was hard to associate it with the word "antique."
Of course, the unreadable seal at the bottom was quite misleading.
Casually rolling up the painting, Xiao Feng picked up a new scroll in his hand.
Upon opening it, it depicted a swan floating in the river, with lush green grass on the bank and overlapping mountains in the distance, somewhat captivating.
However…
When it reached the bottom, a poem appeared.
[Ode to the Swan]
Tang Dynasty, by Luo Binwang
Swan, swan, swan, stretching its neck singing to the sky…
"..."
Xiao Feng's mouth twisted in exasperation; what the hell!
Even if you're faking, at least put some effort into it, right?
I asked for famous paintings and calligraphy, and ended up with an "illustrated version of Three Hundred Tang Poems"?
But now wasn't the time to dwell on this; dusk was falling, and Hua Ling could arrive at any moment.
"Put all these fake antiques into my boxes, as many as you can." Xiao Feng said.
Wang Lubo immediately looked at the awaiting youth beside him, displeased, "Didn't you hear what Feng said?
Do as he instructed, quickly!"
"Yes, Mr. Wang!"
The young man agreed, crouching down in a fluster to get to work, looking much like a vendor hastily packing up upon seeing city management.
Once everything was ready, Wang Lubo and his people took their leave.
Almost as soon as they left, Hua Ling appeared at the door, humming a tune: "Summer, summer quietly passes by, leaving behind little secrets.
Pressed deep inside, pressed deep inside, can't tell you…"
Meanwhile, from the yard, another song could be heard.
"Escorting you to the outskirts of the village, there's something I must explain.
Though it's springtime already, in full bloom, la la la la la la, la la la la la…"
The next moment, the two people singing on opposite sides of the door locked eyes and instantly noticed each other's presence.
"Oh my, isn't this the little team leader Hua Ling? What brings you to grace my humble abode with your presence?" A little girl ran to open the door, "Come in, come in, have a cup of tea first."
"Hmm?" Hua Ling immediately took a step back, adopting a defensive posture, "Have you…gone crazy?"
"What kind of question is that?" the little girl said indignantly, "I'm your subordinate now. Being more enthusiastic when seeing my superior—isn't that quite normal?"
Hua Ling remained skeptical, "If someone else was enthusiastic, I might believe it, but you suddenly being so warm—that's definitely suspicious!
Come on!
What are you scheming?"
The little girl was immediately speechless, "I can't treat you coldly, nor can I be friendly. What do you want me to do?"
"Better to stick to how it was before." Hua Ling replied, proceeding cautiously forward, one slow step at a time.
The little girl chuckled inwardly, turned, and ran towards the villa, shouting, "Everyone pay attention, Team Leader Hua Ling is here, let's line up to welcome him!"
Hua Ling was utterly bewildered, even doubting if the Mu Shihan before her was real…
Hold on!
Suddenly, Hua Ling thought of Xiao Feng's disguise technique, and her wariness heightened again.
While keeping an eye on her surroundings, she carefully watched her step as she slowly approached the villa.
Entering the living room, Du Qingyue, Lu Yao, and Jiang Yixin each greeted Hua Ling.
Their demeanor was essentially the same as before, neither warm nor cold.
At that moment, Xiao Feng emerged from the study and, seeing Hua Ling, remarked with a smile, "So you came. I've prepared everything for you. Come in and have a look."
"Alright." Hua Ling nodded lightly, still using a very slow pace as she walked towards the study.
The instant she entered, she saw the items laid out on a small bed. Hua Ling quickly stepped back out, staring intently at Xiao Feng, "Something's off with you!"
"What's off?"
"Who are you really?" While asking, Hua Ling put her hand into her pocket, ready to throw a hidden weapon at any moment.
In her view, there was bound to be some obstacle in getting what she came for from Xiao Feng this time.
She was even prepared to take a loss.
But before she even stepped foot inside, she encountered Mu Shihan acting completely out of character, being extremely friendly.
Now, she saw Xiao Feng eagerly readied her share.
Therefore, there were only two possibilities!
Either Xiao Feng was a fake.
Or the things on the bed were fake.
No other options existed!
