The Magnificent Son-in-law
Chapter 1290 - 1290: The Ceremony Begins
The first round of Fight the Landlord ended with a certain landlord defeating four peasants.
Because there were two bombs in that round, the number of punishment stickers doubled to four.
"Honestly, I really didn't mean to win, but my skills just won't let me lose. I'm really sorry." Xiao Feng shook his head, sighing as he picked up the slips of paper.
Du Qingyue, Lu Yao, and Jiang Yixin all looked pretty grim, while the little brat was cheering like crazy, as if she were the one who won.
"Stick mine first." The little brat volunteered.
Xiao Feng said helplessly, "Who goes first is all the same, none of you are getting away anyway."
Jiang Yixin really couldn't hold it in anymore and snapped, "And you still say you're not a traitor? The landlord wins and you're so damn happy, what are you excited about?"
"It's cards, there's gotta be winners and losers.
Big Sister Jiang, don't yell like that, you're making it seem like we're all sore losers just like you."
"You—!"
Lu Yao and Du Qingyue could only shake their heads and sigh. Nothing they could do but accept it!
Just as Xiao Feng was about to slap a sticker onto Jiang Yixin's face, the little brat stopped him. "Brother Xiao Feng, let me do it."
Jiang Yixin angrily said, "Why should you be the one sticking it? I didn't even lose to—"
She'd wanted to say "I didn't lose to you," but when she thought of how the little brat had just played undercover in the game, she suddenly couldn't say it anymore.
From a certain angle, it really was because of the little brat that she lost.
If not for the opening double joker, plus holding back on plays she could've made, that intentional throwing of the game—then even if Xiao Feng still won, it would never have been this easy.
The little brat said seriously, "Big Sister Jiang, I just think the strips are too long, I wanna cut them shorter before sticking them on you. Don't be mad, I'm still super nice to you…"
Talking nonsense as she worked, she ripped one of the four strips into a tiny piece the size of her pinky nail and stuck it right above Jiang Yixin's philtrum.
The other three, she slapped on Jiang Yixin's two eyebrows and her forehead.
Du Qingyue and Lu Yao stared at the little brat's handiwork, holding it in for a long time before they finally lost it.
"Pfft!"
The two covered their mouths, laughing, while the little brat laughed so hard she nearly rolled off the sofa.
Jiang Yixin clenched her teeth and said icily, "Mu Shihan, just you wait!
From now on, no matter if I'm a peasant or a landlord, I've only got one goal… to make. you. lose!"
The little brat immediately hugged her arms to her chest, curling up in a ball. "I'm sooo scared, hahaha!"
And just like that, a nice normal game of Fight the Landlord turned straight into a battle between the little brat and Jiang Yixin.
In one of the rounds, Xiao Feng's "luck exploded," and he and Jiang Yixin ended up on the same team as the little brat.
The two of them, hell-bent on making the other one lose, barely played any cards the entire round.
Which directly led to Xiao Feng holding all four jokers, thinking he'd drawn "god-tier" starting hand, yet still managing to lose a round while facing Du Qingyue and Lu Yao as the two landlords all by himself.
Before they knew it, it was eleven o'clock, and everyone's face was covered with a bunch of strips, with Jiang Yixin having the most by far.
Obviously, in yet another round of god-knows-how-many bouts with the little brat, Big Sister Jiang had lost another battle.
"Eyes on the screen. The ones arriving now are the kind of people who really give this event some weight." Xiao Feng tore off the strips on his face and pointed at the big screen.
At the same time, he pulled out a palm-sized notebook and started writing.
"Brother Xiao Feng, what are you doing?" The little brat leaned in curiously and saw that he was jotting down a list of names.
"Keeping score." Xiao Feng replied very seriously.
Everyone fell silent at once, silently sweating for the people appearing on screen, walking into the Bai Family estate with big smiles.
Objectively speaking, the lineup coming out to support Bai Huanyu this time really wasn't small.
Aside from Bai Huanyu's own supporters, He Qizheng's business alliance had practically gone all-in, all showing up to give Bai Huanyu face.
For them, of course, the more chaos the better. Whether it's Xiao Feng or Bai Huanyu who gets screwed, it's all the same.
Of course, after Xiao Feng released his statement last night, He Qizheng had also given him a heads-up beforehand: the business alliance members' collective appearance was actually orchestrated by Dong Min behind the scenes.
"Crackle!"
"Thump thump thump!"
"Clang clang clang!"
Firecrackers and drums went off almost at the same time.
Lu Yao tapped her notebook twice, switching the feed to the stage that had been set up in the center of the Bai Family courtyard.
They saw Bai Huanyu in a bright red outfit, standing on stage and smiling as he nodded repeatedly to the people below. The man looked a lot younger, and "high-spirited" wouldn't be an exaggeration.
"Everyone, thank you for coming. Please take your seats!" Bai Huanyu said into the microphone.
The little brat's eyes lit up right away. "Watch closely, the show's about to start!"
They saw a bunch of people find their seats and sit down.
Once everyone was seated, Bai Huanyu began, "Today's a fine day, the sun's shining bright, and that's exactly how I feel right now.
As for why I'm so happy, I'm sure you all know.
Today, I'm going to officially announce to all of you that I, Bai Huanyu, am going to…"
"Crack!"
A sharp snapping sound rang out right on cue, and then the camera caught a fairly chubby man falling onto the ground, the chair leg under his ass clearly broken clean off.
"Ow, I'm gonna die from this fall!" The fat man clutched his lower back, his face twisted in pain, and with help from the people beside him, he barely managed to get back to his feet.
Onstage, Bai Huanyu's brows twitched almost imperceptibly before he quickly spoke a few words of concern.
Backstage, Old Ha pulled his hand out of his pocket, feeling a cold sweat.
That was really close just now!
If it had been a second later, he would've blown that bamboo tube for sure.
Once order was restored, Bai Huanyu's smile returned. "My apologies, there was a minor issue just now and President Zhou was startled.
Anyway, let's skip the small talk. I hereby announce…"
"Crack! Crack! Crack…"
"Thud! Thud! Thud…"
Before Bai Huanyu could announce anything, no fewer than thirty people in the crowd toppled to the ground one after another.
Without exception, every one of their chair legs had snapped.
In an instant, the Bai Family courtyard turned into a wailing battlefield, with cries of pain and shouting echoing everywhere.
Bai Huanyu's expression darkened. One incident could be called a coincidence, two might barely pass as chance.
But this many people dropping off their chairs all at once? There was no way to explain that as coincidence or chance.
"What the hell is going on?" Turning off the mic, Bai Huanyu walked to the backstage entrance and demanded of Bai Tieniu.
Bai Tieniu looked anxious, pointing at his dark eye bags. "Dad, I didn't sleep a wink last night. I stayed glued to the security feeds the whole time. I didn't see anyone touch the chairs at all!"
"Xiao Feng!" Bai Huanyu ground out the name between his teeth, his fists clenched so tight his whole body started to tremble with rage.
"Dad, don't get mad. Right now we need to get the situation under control." Bai Tieniu said quickly. "We can cut out any unnecessary parts and just start the ceremony.
As long as the ceremony goes through, no matter what happens after, nothing can change the result."
Bai Huanyu took a few deep breaths and muttered, "That's all we can do."
