The Magnificent Son-in-law
Chapter 1248 - 1248: The First Thing Done for Him
"Why isn't this guy answering the phone!"
After dialing three times without anyone answering, Hua Ling couldn't help but say anxiously.
Xiao Feng calmly said, "Mr. Xiao Feng mentioned that there's only one sentence you need to hear to prove I'm telling the truth."
"What sentence?"
Xiao Feng beckoned with his hand, signaling for her to come closer.
Hua Ling expressed dissatisfaction, "Can't you just say it straight out?"
She wasn't worried about danger; she simply felt a natural reluctance.
"Alright, it's not a big deal anyway," Xiao Feng nodded and agreed.
But just as he was about to speak, Hua Ling stopped him, "Wait a sec!"
She said this while pulling a notebook with a clasp from her pocket, tearing out a page after opening it, and handing it along with a pen over: "Just write it on paper and show me."
In Hua Ling's mind, since the middle-aged man didn't say it directly, chances were high it was a somewhat private matter.
With eight ears around her, if they heard, it might lower her prestige in their eyes.
Xiao Feng was a bit speechless but still wrote down a line on paper, then handed back the paper and pen.
Hua Ling looked at it and couldn't help but frown, "Nonsense!
When did I owe him one dollar, he took all my savings and..."
Wait!
One dollar?
In an instant, a memory surfaced in Hua Ling's mind.
It was when she first had her period, and he instructed her to go back and study physiological knowledge, giving her a pack of tissues.
Then, on the way back, she received a WeChat from him: Don't forget to pay me back one dollar (for the tissues).
Thinking about this, Hua Ling suddenly stepped forward, grabbed Xiao Feng's collar, her expression turning slightly fierce, "What else did Xiao Feng tell you?"
"Uh...he told me quite a bit, what specifically are you asking about?"
"About, about the one dollar I owe him!"
Xiao Feng immediately understood and shook his head, "He just asked me to tell you this; he didn't mention why the debt specifically."
"Really?"
"Of course it's true."
"Alright then, come with me!" Hua Ling waved her hand, signaling Xiao Feng to follow, while instructing Gong Kaishan and the others to stay put.
Xiao Feng followed confusedly behind her, gradually noticing a pattern.
All the way, Hua Ling went into every alley she saw, heading wherever there were fewer people.
Could it be that she plans to...silence me?
Just as suspicion arose, the girl in front stopped walking, turned around, and asked, "What's your relationship with Xiao Feng?"
"We're pretty good friends."
"How good?"
"How should I describe it?" Xiao Feng pondered briefly and replied, "We share a life-and-death bond, and generally have a great relationship.
He entrusted me to fully represent him in Kyoto to assist with your work."
"Alright, since you can represent him, you should do the first thing for him."
Xiao Feng picked up on a strange tone in her voice and asked cautiously, "What is that?"
"First, take a beating for him!"
As soon as the last word came out, the girl's fists clenched tightly, her body charged forward like an arrow.
Xiao Feng instantly felt a breeze with a faintly sweet scent rushing toward him, instinctively wanting to react.
But then he realized the girl was not easy to deal with; at least without using lethal moves, he certainly couldn't overtake her within a hundred moves.
Should he get entangled, it would be easy to blow his cover.
Considering this, without hesitation, he turned and ran!
However, Hua Ling was not about to let him go so easily, her speed increased by two notches fueled by anger, soon catching up.
"We don't know each other, so why are we fighting as soon as we meet?" Xiao Feng shouted in anger, "Besides, I'm here to...oh no, I'm here to help you, what do you mean by this?"
"No reason, I just can't stand the sight of you, want to beat you up to vent, what can you do about it?" Hua Ling unreasonably replied.
In the midst of conversation, the two had exchanged over a dozen moves.
In the narrow and quiet alleyway, the air was filled with dull "thud thud" sounds.
As they fought, Xiao Feng swiftly sorted his thoughts, realizing that running away didn't resolve the issue.
After all, he still needed Hua Ling to help deal with those wealthy troublemakers in Jiangcheng afterward; dodging now meant facing them later.
So, the situation was quite straightforward.
Continuing the fight would likely expose him, fleeing wouldn't solve the problem, and for now, it seemed cooperating by taking the hits was the best response.
Understanding this, Xiao Feng couldn't help but sigh, "Imagine me, Xiao Feng, with a lifetime's good name..."
Oh well, oh well!
The one getting embarrassed and beaten is Xiao Bajia; it has nothing to do with me, right?
So the scene changed instantly.
In the alley, the girl unleashed her powers, pummeling the middle-aged man into constant retreat, almost powerless to retaliate!
Soon, Xiao Feng was pushed to the alley's entrance.
Hua Ling made a sharp sprint and blocked the entrance, then pressured from the other side.
After going back and forth about seven or eight times, the middle-aged man was panting heavily, and the beautiful girl was drenched in sweat.
"Exhilarating, truly exhilarating!" Hua Ling said, hands akimbo, laughing, "Xiao Feng, oh Xiao Feng, you're having your day now!"
Xiao Feng, who was cooperating with a very frustrated expression, suddenly focused his gaze, "Hmm?"
"Hmph! Did you think I wouldn't recognize you with the mask on?" Hua Ling sneered, "With your little tricks, how could you deceive these wise eyes of mine!"
Xiao Feng replied sullenly, "I don't understand what you're saying."
Though he knew that she had almost certainly discovered something, he decided to try saving the situation just in case she was bluffing.
"No fun in that, right?" Hua Ling said proudly, arms crossed, "Face can be changed, voice can be changed, clothes can be changed.
But, what can't be changed far outweighs what can!
For instance, eyes, height, inadvertent gestures, and the combat style and usual mindset, etc.
With none of these changed, what makes you think you can deceive me?"
"You've observed Xiao Feng that closely?"
"Still pretending?" Hua Ling was displeased, "You don't treat me like a fool, alright?
Either you let me beat you right away, but in the first dozen moves, you matched me tit for tat, and later, suddenly hit a lower notch.
Such obvious hidden strength, who are you trying to fool?"
"But that is not enough to prove I'm Xiao Feng." Xiao Feng retorted stubbornly, "I hid my strength because..."
Hua Ling interrupted without hesitation, "Even if your disguise is perfect, what about the one dollar debt?
The Xiao Feng I know would never tell anyone such a private matter!
Even if one day we turn against each other and become adversaries, I don't believe he'd stoop so low, at least not to me!"
Xiao Feng opened his mouth, momentarily feeling at a loss for words.
At this point, there was no point in pretending further.
His mouth gradually curved into a smile, eyes flashing a dangerous light, as he asked teasingly, "Just now, was that fun?"
Hua Ling's heart skipped a beat, she stepped back and hurriedly said, "Don't, don't act recklessly, believe it or not, I—I can call someone!"
