The Magnificent Son-in-law
Chapter 1199 - 1199: Mindset of an 18-Year-Old
After the plan to get him drunk completely fell apart, Wang Zhiping signaled his men with a look, indicating it was time for the next step.
Right then, Qiu Junxian and Wei Jianhua exchanged a glance; both of them sensed something was off.
First they'd borrowed everyone's name to invite this "Bro Ba" over.
Then they'd jumped on his being late and tried to pour booze down his throat like crazy—no matter how you looked at it, it had the flavor of a Hongmen Banquet.
And this "Bro Ba" was clearly no ordinary person; whether it was his eloquence or his alcohol tolerance, both were exceptional.
If they could rope him in and make him work for them…
"Brother Xiao." Wei Jianhua was the first to stand up, lifting a glass of wine as he walked over to Xiao Feng and said, "As the saying goes, meeting each other means we're fated.
I may not have the skill to chug a whole bottle, but I can still handle a few glasses.
I'll toast you, Brother Xiao. I'll drain mine, you drink as much as you like!"
With that, he downed the wine in one gulp.
"No problem, no problem." Xiao Feng gave him full face and likewise finished his glass.
On the other side, Qiu Junxian was unwilling to be outdone and immediately moved to follow up and toast Xiao Feng as well.
But just then, they heard Wang Zhiping say, "Bro Ba's drinking capacity is extraordinary. I naturally admit defeat; why don't we change the way we play?"
"Oh?" Xiao Feng showed interest. "How do we play? Go on, let's hear it."
This quick back-and-forth directly cut off Qiu Junxian's attempt to toast and get close.
At this moment, Qiu Junxian already felt a twinge of dissatisfaction toward Wang Zhiping.
However, the seed hadn't been planted now; it had started when he saw that the first name on the invitation list wasn't his, but Wei Jianhua's.
Wang Zhiping obviously had no idea he'd already earned the resentment of one of the two big shots in the room, and continued speaking on his own: "The rules are simple. We each appoint someone to carry a full glass of wine over to the other side.
If not a drop is spilled along the way, no one has to drink. If any spills, then you have to drink the whole glass.
Let's put it this way: I'll have Bingqiao bring you the wine. If she spills even a drop on the way, I'll drink the whole glass. And vice versa."
"Sounds pretty thrilling…" Xiao Feng said with a half-smile.
Wang Zhiping laughed. "We're young people, right? We live for the thrill."
Before Xiao Feng could respond, however, Wei Jianhua stood up to smooth things over: "Drinking is about having fun. I think we should drop it. Brother Xiao has already had a lot to drink; that should be enough."
Since he'd decided to recruit Xiao Feng, there was no way he'd miss any chance.
Wang Zhiping's brows furrowed, anger surging in his chest.
The main reason he'd asked Xiao Feng to come was to stir up dissatisfaction toward him in Qiu Junxian and Wei Jianhua.
But looking at things now, Wei Jianhua was not only toasting him, but also speaking up on his behalf; the way things were going was completely opposite to his plan.
As he was thinking this, he heard Xiao Feng say, "I'm more inclined to agree with Young Master Wang. I might not be that young anymore, but my mindset is still at eighteen."
He paused, then said to Wang Zhiping, "I agree to the game you just proposed, but we have to tweak the rules a bit."
"How does Bro Ba want to change them?" Wang Zhiping chuckled, the anger in his heart easing quite a bit.
He'd just been worrying that if Wei Jianhua insisted on shielding Xiao Feng, how he was going to move his plan forward.
But now, there was no need to worry at all.
On top of that, Xiao Feng clearly wasn't appreciating Wei Jianhua's help; this might even make Wei Jianhua cool off on him.
A moment later, they heard Xiao Feng say, "I'm not the kind of person who likes to hand my fate over to someone else. You can appoint whoever you like, but I insist on carrying the wine to you myself."
"No problem!" Wang Zhiping agreed readily, then turned to the waiter. "Pour the wine—fill it as full as you can!"
"Got it!" One of the waiters standing in a line against the wall stepped forward.
Meanwhile, both Wei Jianhua and Qiu Junxian were wearing thoughtful expressions.
Both couldn't help wondering whether Xiao Feng's line just now, "I don't like handing my fate to others," had slipped out unconsciously or was a deliberate hint.
Everyone else in the room, aside from the two of them, had their attention firmly captured by the waiter's exquisite pouring technique.
The waiter held the bottle with both hands and poured into the stemmed glass in a slow and elegant manner; every movement was extremely precise—clearly professionally trained.
The impressive part was that the wine had already risen a little above the rim, swaying precariously, yet not a single drop spilled.
Wang Zhiping gave Lin Bingqiao a questioning look, and when he saw her nod, he finally let out a relieved smile.
"Bro Ba, shall we begin?"
"Sure." Xiao Feng nodded his agreement.
Lin Bingqiao took a deep breath and solemnly lifted the glass.
Such an utterly ordinary action somehow had everyone holding their breath, as if they were watching a bomb disposal expert defuse a bomb, unable to help feeling nervous for her.
Just as Lin Bingqiao successfully lifted the glass, Qiu Junxian suddenly stood up and clapped. "Nice!"
This sudden shout of praise startled many people who'd been fully focused; their bodies jerked involuntarily.
They were dazed for a few seconds, then reacted and followed along with the clapping.
In an instant, the private room was filled with thunderous applause.
Quite a few sharp ones immediately guessed that Qiu Junxian was most likely doing this on purpose to distract Lin Bingqiao.
As for why, it was clearly to help Xiao Feng.
However, Lin Bingqiao remained utterly steady, as if she'd temporarily lost her hearing. She was completely unaffected; not a single drop of wine spilled from the glass in her hand…
The applause gradually died down, and everyone's attention became even more focused.
Xiao Feng's expression remained calm; he even started humming a little tune he'd made up himself under his breath.
"My hometown, in Jiuyou Town, Jiuyou Town not far from Kyoto…"
This faint, drifting melody slipped into Lin Bingqiao's ears with a force no less than a bomb going off!
In an instant, her steps faltered, her hand wobbled… and the wine spilled.
Wang Zhiping's face went dark. He really couldn't understand why, when Lin Bingqiao had been walking just fine, she'd suddenly stopped.
Wasn't she screwing him over on purpose?
"What the hell is wrong with you?!"
As soon as Lin Bingqiao got back, she was met with Wang Zhiping's questioning.
She didn't explain much, just took out a Bluetooth earbud and put it in her ear to guard against being disturbed again.
Clenching her teeth, she drank the entire glass, and Wang Zhiping slammed the empty glass onto the table with force, clearly genuinely angered now.
The waiter filled the glass to the brim again, and Lin Bingqiao started toward Xiao Feng a second time.
Xiao Feng's lips curled in a faint smile; he didn't look the least bit nervous.
To be honest, if he'd really wanted to interfere without saying a word, he could easily have thought of more than ten ways.
But he didn't intend to keep disrupting things on purpose.
After all, he also needed a chance to show off.
Three steps… two steps… one step!
Lin Bingqiao had already reached Xiao Feng, and at a steady, unhurried pace, she carefully set the glass down.
Wang Zhiping let out a long breath; finally, they'd stabilized the situation!
"Bro Wang, this time we're gonna drink that bastard to death!"
"We've basically got this in the bag!"
"Hahaha, no matter how much he can drink, it's useless now."
As they were talking, there was suddenly a "smack" sound, as if something unexpected had happened.
