Chapter 9: Amie’s Desperation

"Sir, there’s something you should know."

As soon as the guard opened his mouth, the office door slid open.

Amie peeped her head through the door, and seeing the guard looking tense and nervous, she walked inside.

She strode to Rauf’s side.

Thankfully, she had the decency to cover herself up.

"Darling, are you working already?" she questioned, her gaze moving among the files on his table.

But Rauf only relaxed in his chair. He waved his hand to dismiss the guard.

He just had to question him another day.

Amie moved her hand over her body. "It’s lonely without you in the bed, darling. Remember, we always sleep together." She pouted at him, trying to act cute. "Don’t go changing now that you can see."

Rauf chuckled. He wished he could promise her he wouldn’t change, but he couldn’t make a promise when he was this much in doubt.

Instead, he lifted her off his leg and led her out of the office.

"I think we should go to sleep now. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day."

He was resuming back at his office and resuming all operations tomorrow.

Amie looked satisfied with that response. She led him out of the office and straight to the other bedroom. She promised herself she wasn’t going to make another mistake like she did painting his room in a color he wanted.

She was going to make a thorough investigation into things before she did them.

There was no way she would let him slip through her fingers.

Once they got to the room, Rauf closed his eyes, turning in the opposite direction.

He didn’t want to touch Amie until he was sure she was the woman he fell in love with.

But Amie didn’t give up. She touched his shoulder, his chest, his muscles, anything to make him interested, but he kept murmuring that he was too tired.

Maybe some other time.

At the end, she turned in the opposite direction, but unlike him, she could barely close her eyes.

The night was long and unbearable for her.

She had always had the best things since she was young, and there was no way she was letting June steal this from her.

As soon as dawn broke, she got dressed.

She didn’t bother waking Rauf as he was long gone from beside her.

She left the mansion and returned to her father’s house.

After narrating every one of her suspicions to her father and mother, she burst into tears. "Daddy, I really, really love Rauf. I’m going to kill myself if I lose him."

Angry, her father threw the nearest lamp beside him onto the floor.

Amie was his golden child. She should want for nothing. So, how could she be in such pain over a man?

Her mother bit her lips, staring at him. "Samir, do something. Do you want that bastard of yours to steal my daughter’s husband?"

He turned his sharp gaze at her. "Shut up, woman. I’m trying to think." And just as soon as he said that, a wicked smile appeared on his lips. "I know just what to do."

Hopefully, Amie stared up at her father. "What are you going to do? Is there any way to get that information out of June? I mean, no one even knows where she is, and I am sure she wouldn’t want to tell us anything."

Her father chuckled. "Not when I know something she doesn’t. Don’t worry yourself, princess. June will tell us everything we want to hear."

Glad that she had her parents to run to, Amie sat with more ease than before.

If only she got the information she needed, there was no way Rauf would doubt her any longer.

He would believe she was the one who stood by his side for five years, and she would finally get to live the life she deserved.

She didn’t pay any attention to her father’s call, but she knew he was talking to June.

If anyone could handle that bitch, it was their father.

Ever since they were young, her father had ways of making her do things no one else could, and she was certain it would be no different today.

Once he dropped the call, he turned his cold smile at them. "Don’t worry, princess. She will be here soon."

Amie nodded.

"But once you get everything you need from her, don’t forget to pitch my deal to your husband."

Amie frowned, biting her nail. "Father, you know Rauf despises our family. He despises you especially."

Samir let out curses.

The boy hadn’t forgiven him for what he had done back in those years.

But there was no way he would lose that deal without trying. He knew Rauf’s comeback to society was going to be a huge one, and if Trevor Industries could benefit from it, it would surely skyrocket them back to where they used to be before falling into debt.

"I know. But remember, he didn’t send us out of his room at the hospital. And he believed our words over those of June. Doesn’t that mean something in him has changed? Maybe he doesn’t hate us as much as he used to."

Amie nodded. "Yeah. I found out that during the marriage, he fell in love with June. Maybe that’s why he decided to be tolerant of our family."

Samir’s grin was back. "But he had no idea that was June. He thought it was you. Once you get all you need from June and are able to convince him that you’re his wife, I’m sure he will do anything for you."

Amie loved the sound of that.

Anything.

Anything involved giving her his one and only premium card.

It also involved international trips to live the life she deserved.

And what was a luxurious car to the man of his calibre?

She sighed, imagining herself in one with different shopping bags just right beside her.

"You’re right, Father. We’re about to open our golden time. Now, we can have anything. Anything we want."
