The Mafia Lord Forgotten Bride
Chapter 47: Unwanted Gifts.
Chapter 46
"Mami, we need to talk."
June stepped around him, ignoring him as if she couldn’t see him talking to her.
Rauf moved with her. "Come on. I know I was wrong, but you didn’t expect Trevor to pull such a stunt. I had absolutely no idea I was really married to you."
Silence.
This time, June didn’t put her hand on her stomach as she walked. She didn’t want Rauf to notice the small bump that had started sprouting.
And she was walking in the opposite direction of her workplace. She had no idea how Rauf had found out where she lived, but she wasn’t going to hand over her workplace’s location to him for free.
Rauf didn’t mind that she was going in the wrong direction. If it were up to him, he would want her to stop working totally.
"If you were me, Mami, you wouldn’t have believed it either. You know how manipulative Samir can be."
June continued to ignore him. It was hard to believe they were having this conversation on the road, and the few people going to their workplaces were starting to glance at them.
June hated being the center of attention.
She stopped moving, and Rauf stopped too, almost colliding with her.
"What do you want from me?" she asked, her voice barely audible and vibrating like she was about to cry.
But she swallowed the lump in her throat. She was not going to cry. She wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of seeing her broken.
Glad for the attention, Rauf took a deep breath. "I want you back. I want you back in my life and in my house."
June lifted her eyes and stared into his.
Once, she used to feel satisfied just staring at him, even if they weren’t talking. But now, she looked away from him. "Why? You don’t even know who I am. I’m just some crazy bitch who wanted your money, but I am fine now. I don’t need your money anymore."
Rauf let out a string of curses as she started walking again. This time, she had turned back and was headed towards the direction of her workplace.
He was tired of this chase, and although he had told himself he wasn’t going to hold onto her, he did.
He held her hand and stopped her from walking.
June froze.
The feeling hadn’t changed. Her body was on full alert from his touch. It was just as if her body remembered his touch, even when her brain wanted nothing more than to forget it.
She screamed. "What are you doing?" while trying to snatch her hand away from him. "Is this how you go about holding strangers?"
And as soon as he let go of her hand, she slapped him.
Without looking at his face, she ran towards the direction of her office.
Rauf smiled.
The feel of her hand on his cheek was refreshing.
If there was something he had deduced from this goose chase, it was the fact that June now hated him.
And he was fine with that.
Because it was impossible to hate a person you didn’t have feelings for, which led him to decide that June still had feelings for him.
He just needed to make her realize it was not hate.
He didn’t run after her.
He wanted to scream at her to stop running because of the baby, but he knew she would only run farther from him.
Accepting that temporary defeat, he returned to his car where the gifts were still sitting.
When was he supposed to give her the gift if she continued refusing to even see him?
After running a bit, June stopped running. Her breath was running wild, and her heart was beating fast. Her leg felt like it had been strained, while she suddenly felt very thirsty.
She glanced back to see if Rauf was coming after her, but when she didn’t see him, she let out a breath of relief.
While trying to calm herself down, she started walking towards the clinic. Her hand stung.
She couldn’t believe she had slapped Rauf Salvador.
She had no idea where the courage had come from, and she certainly didn’t regret it.
He couldn’t just waltz into her life demanding that he wanted her back in his life at his own convenience.
What about what she wanted?
What about her feelings?
What about what her baby needed?
Finally, her step faltered as she stared at the clinic in the distance.
There was a shadow standing, lost, just outside the clinic.
June walked faster. She was already late because she was trying to avoid Rauf. It could be one of the clients with their pet, and they wouldn’t like the idea of her keeping them waiting.
The closer she got, the more she could tell it was no client. It was a man wearing an orange uniform that looked like a delivery company’s attire.
She frowned, moving faster to get to him.
Who sent a delivery to the clinic so early in the morning?
June stopped in front of the man, who looked like he was about to leave the place. But on seeing June, his lips curled into a smile.
"Finally, I was already thinking there’s no one here."
June shook her head. "Sorry. I got caught up with something insignificant. So, what do you have for us?"
He checked the box that was attached to his bike and brought out a long box.
Then, "Are you Miss June Trevor?"
June nodded.
"You have a delivery." He brought out a book again. "You’ll have to sign here to show you accepted the delivery yourself."
June wanted to ask who the delivery was from. She hadn’t ordered anything online, and she was sure Ellie hadn’t either. She had no one who would send things to her. So, where could the delivery be coming from?
But she knew it was none of the man’s business. He was only doing his job. So, she sucked it up and signed on the paper, collecting the box from him.
The man thanked her and left.
June carried the box with both hands while juggling to open the clinic.
Maybe it was high time Andy employed another assistant, like he had been saying.
When she finally got into the clinic, she dropped the box on the desk and let out a sigh of relief.
It was a good thing that she was able to get rid of Rauf, even if it was temporarily. Yet, she knew she had to do something about him before her bump became visible.
But she didn’t want to think about that, so she focused her attention on the box.
She searched it for another note that would indicate the sender, and she found one stuck at the bottom of the box.
’From your best brother. This is my first gift to you.’
June frowned.
The delivery man had surely made a mistake and brought someone else’s package to her.
She had no brother. So, how could she be getting a gift from an unknown brother?
She decided she wasn’t going to open someone else’s gift. She pushed it aside. She would have to find a way to return the gift.
Andy came later in the day, and his first gaze was at the box.
"Who owns this?" he asked, his brows furrowed together.
"It’s a mixed-up delivery. I’m looking for a way to return it to the owner."
Andy frowned. "What address is on it?"
"Here," she responded, "and that’s where the problem is. Our clinic is the only one using this address."
Andy nodded. "Maybe it’s for the next building or the one before it. We’ll find a way around it. Just forget about it for now."
June nodded.
But as soon as she turned to leave, another delivery arrived at that moment.
June’s eyes widened. She wished it was the same delivery man so she could return the previous order, but it was a different man.
"Is there a Miss June Trevor here?" he asked.
"I am," she responded.
She could feel Andy’s gaze on her.
"I have a delivery for you, ma’am. I just need you to sign to confirm you received the package yourself."
But June was skeptical. It was the same thing she had done in the morning and ended up being stuck with a stranger’s package.
"I’m sorry, but..."
The door opened, and yet another delivery man came in.
"Good day. Is there a Miss..."
"June Trevor here?" Andy completed, his voice carrying over the delivery man’s.
The man nodded, looking pleased that he had come to the right place.
Again, the door opened and another came in.
Before June could realize what was happening, there were about ten delivery men waiting to deliver goods to her.
Andy whistled at her. "I think you’ve got yourself a secret admirer."
June shook her head. She had read the letter carefully, and it had said ’brother.’
Yet, she couldn’t think of any brother.
Was this Rauf trying to play her again?
